Overview
Stackmon, developed by Riftpoint Entertainment and published by Alibi Games, is a creature-collecting strategy game that launched on Steam on August 18, 2026. The core hook is a drag-and-drop card-stacking system: instead of just catching creatures and sending them into battle, you physically stack Stackmon cards with resource and equipment cards to create combinations that unlock new items, abilities, and effects. It's a mechanical layer that sits on top of a base-building loop and an auto-battle combat system, giving the game a distinct identity in a crowded genre.
The world you're exploring is called Gaia, and it's being eaten alive by something called the Soot, a corruption spreading across the land and warping both creatures and Scout Leaders in its path. Professor Pine tasks you with completing the Stackpedia, a full catalogue of every creature in Gaia, which gives the collection side of the game a concrete narrative purpose rather than just being a checklist.

Gameplay and mechanics
The stacking system is what separates Stackmon from its peers. Every action runs through it:

- Combine creature cards with resource cards to gather materials
- Stack equipment cards onto Scouts to unlock buffs and abilities
- Drag items onto each other to craft new gear
- Automate resource tasks by assigning Stackmon to specific jobs
- Open booster packs to expand your collection with rare and legendary creatures
Your Harmony base is the hub for all of this. With over 25 buildings to construct and upgrade, the base grows from a simple camp into a full operation that unlocks new crafting recipes and creature abilities. The progression feels genuinely connected: the stronger your base, the more options you have in the field.
What does combat look like in Stackmon?
Battles in Stackmon are auto-battles, meaning your Stackmon fight on their own once you've set up your team and equipment. The strategy comes in the preparation: elemental affinities matter, equipment card choices change how individual creatures perform, and the order and composition of your roster affects outcomes against rival Scouts scattered across Gaia's 7 biomes. Scout Leaders are the tougher encounters, each acting as a regional boss that tests how well you've built your team.

Each biome carries its own mechanical quirks that alter how you play inside it, so the game doesn't just swap out the visual backdrop between areas. Shifting between a forest zone and a corrupted region means adjusting your approach, not just your creature roster.
Collection and world exploration
With over 100 Stackmon to find, including standard evolutions, Rare editions, and Legendary variants, the collection side of the game has genuine depth. Wild creatures roam each biome, booster packs offer a randomised pull mechanic for expanding your roster, and the evolution system means creatures you catch early can grow into significantly more powerful forms.

The Soot corruption ties everything together narratively. As you push deeper into Gaia's biomes, the mystery of what's causing the corruption and how to stop it becomes the driving force behind exploration. It gives the creature-collector loop a story backbone that keeps the moment-to-moment grind feeling purposeful, which is exactly what this genre needs to hold attention past the first few hours.
