Subnautica 2 Guide: Where to Find Rebreather

The deeper you push in Subnautica 2, the faster your oxygen burns. What feels like a manageable dive near the surface turns into a frantic sprint back to air the moment you try to reach anything interesting below. The Rebreather fixes that problem entirely, and getting it early makes the rest of your exploration far less stressful. Here's exactly where to find it and how to build one.

Where is the Rebreather in Subnautica 2?

The Rebreather is not handed to you at the start. Like most tools in the game, you need to find a degraded version of it first and scan it with your Scanner to unlock the crafting recipe. The good news: there are at least two Rebreathers scattered around the world, so you have more than one shot at finding one naturally.

If you want to go straight to it rather than stumbling across it, head to the small Colonist Bunker located roughly 275 meters South-West of the Lifepod. Look for the light marking the entrance, head inside, and the Rebreather will be directly to your right.

Scanning it takes just a moment. After that, the crafting recipe unlocks and you're ready to build.

How do you craft the Rebreather in Subnautica 2?

The recipe is straightforward and cheap enough that you've almost certainly already picked up the required materials during normal exploration.

Two Fiber Mesh and one System Chip is all it takes. Craft the Rebreather at a Fabricator, equip it, and your oxygen consumption at depth drops significantly, letting you push further without constantly watching the meter tick down.

Why should you get the Rebreather as early as possible?

Oxygen management is one of the core pressure systems in survival games like Subnautica 2. Without the Rebreather, deep dives become a race against the clock that you'll frequently lose, especially when you're trying to scan creatures, gather resources, or navigate unfamiliar terrain. Getting the Rebreather early removes that ceiling and lets you actually engage with the deeper parts of the world at a comfortable pace.

The Colonist Bunker location is close enough to the Lifepod that you can reach it before you've exhausted the shallower areas, making this one of the best early detours in the game. After testing the difference with and without it on deeper resource runs, the gap in exploration range is significant.
