WoW Forever Hillsbrad Foothills is a contested level 20-34 zone that pays in chain XP and charges in corpse runs. Horde arrives at 20, burns the humans out of Hillsbrad Foothills from Tarren Mill and leaves at 30. Alliance arrives at 28 on the new Menethil ship, cleans the Southshore coast, borrows quests from Alterac Mountains and leaves at 33-34. Both factions then walk into the City of Dalaran dungeon next door (28-33).

The quests are the 2004 ones, and the 2004 order is still the fastest. Forever only changed the arithmetic around them: quest XP went up, dungeon mob XP went down, and a solo mob is tuned to die in 10-15 seconds. Translation: finish chains, stop grinding Syndicate for fun, and pull one human at a time. This guide covers both factions, every hub, every elite, and every reward worth a bag slot.

How to Get In: Flight Paths, the New Ship, Coordinates

Hillsbrad sits between Silverpine Forest and Arathi Highlands, under Alterac Mountains. Forever added no new flight paths here , it added a ship, and that ship is the biggest Alliance quality-of-life change the zone has seen in twenty years.

RouteFactionWhat to Do
Silverpine south roadHordeWalk east out of Silverpine Forest and meet Deathstalker Lesh at 20.8, 47.4 for Time To Strike.
Tarren Mill flight pathHordeZarise at 60.1, 18.6 connects Tarren Mill to the Undercity once discovered.
Menethil Harbor shipAllianceNew Forever route from Wetlands to Southshore, continuing to Auberdine.
Arathi overlandAllianceWetlands north over Thandol Span, flight path at Refuge Pointe, west through Thoradin's Wall, then south on the road.
Southshore flight pathAllianceDarla Harris at 49.3, 52.3 plugs Southshore into the Alliance network.

Key coordinates to know:

  • Tarren Mill sits at 62, 20 in the north; its innkeeper stands at 62.8, 19.0.
  • Southshore sits at 50, 57 on the southern coast; Innkeeper Anderson is at 51.2, 58.9.
  • Hillsbrad Fields , the farms the Horde exists to burn , spread across 30-37, 35-47.
  • Azurelode Mine opens at 30, 56 just south of the fields.
  • Durnholde Keep and its Syndicate occupy 66-84, 38-51 in the east.
  • Darrow Hill yetis live in the caves at 42-47, 25-34.
  • Western Strand murlocs hold 36-49, 63-73; Eastern Strand naga hold 52-62, 61-82.
  • Dun Garok, the dwarven fort full of elites, sits at 71, 79 in the south-east.

Level Range: When to Come, When to Leave

Horde quests start at requirement 19 and end around 32. Alliance quests start at 25 but are worth nothing before 28, because every Southshore target is level 30 or higher. Arrive under level and the murlocs will explain it to you.

Quest Hubs and Breadcrumbs

Two hubs, zero neutral ground. Everything below either delivers you to a hub or unlocks something inside it. Breadcrumbs are free XP, so pick them up on the way instead of discovering them afterwards.

Horde Route Out of Tarren Mill

WoW Forever Tarren Mill is a Forsaken war camp with an apothecary basement. Horde leveling here means genocide with a turn-in button. Every Battle of Hillsbrad step needs a separate turn-in, so each trip back should carry skulls, poster targets, and elixir reagents together.

Alliance Route Out of Southshore

WoW Forever Alliance leveling finally has a sane entry: take the ship and stop swimming from Menethil like it is still 2004. The WoW Forever Southshore hub is small, so half of its value lives on the coast and the other half in Alterac Mountains.

Elite and Group Quests: Do Them or Skip Them

QuestVerdictWhy
Battle of Hillsbrad (Dun Garok)Do, group of 3Mountaineers and Riflemen are level 28-30 elites and Captain Ironhill is a level 32 elite, but the chain reward sits behind them.
Humbert's SwordDo, same groupThe sword is inside Dun Garok and pays a solid chest or legs piece.
Elixir of Agony (keg)Do, same groupThe keg is in Dun Garok, and the last step pays 500 Undercity reputation.
Crushridge WarmongersGroup at 38 or skipWarmongers are level 39-40 elites, far above the Southshore curve.
The Crown of WillGroup at 36Crushridge Maulers are elites and the final step ends with the Ethereal Talisman.
Lord Aliden PerenoldeGroup at 38He is level 41 and stands among level 39-40 Syndicate Enforcers.
WANTED: Baron VardusGroup at 38The level 40 baron sits at 48, 17 in Alterac with company.
Hints of a New Plague?Do, carefullyThe courier walks with four guards, so kill her fast, die if needed, and loot the folder afterwards.

The Horde Taretha chain deserves a separate note. Infiltration, Gol'dir, Blackmoore's Legacy, Lord Aliden Perenolde, and Taretha's Gift run from Krusk into Alterac Mountains at 34-42. Keep it in the log, leave Hillsbrad at 30, and come back when the elites stop being a personality test.

Zone Drops Worth Keeping

Rares and Farm Spots

Hillsbrad rares drop the random world loot table and nothing unique. Their real value is quest items, since each one drops the same quest reagent as its species.

RareLevelLocationNotes
Creepthess2439, 58Drops Creeper Ichor for the Horde elixir.
Big Samras2786, 40Drops Gray Bear Tongue.
Ro'Bark2866, 60Random world loot only.
Scargil3029, 74Drops Torn Fin Eye and Murloc Head.
Lady Zephris3365, 80Drops Daggerspine Scale.

Best farm spots by purpose:

  • Hillsbrad Fields (30-37, 35-47) is the Horde farm for skulls, cloth, and XP , humans respawn fast and die faster.
  • Durnholde Syndicate (66-84, 38-51) is the cleanest solo cloth farm in the zone.
  • Western Strand murlocs give fishing formula chances and fast pulls for melee classes.
  • Darrow Hill yetis and Elder Gray Bears feed leatherworkers and skinners in one lap.

Lore: Why Everyone Here Wants Everyone Dead

WoW Forever Hillsbrad is set in the first year, after the Forsaken Kingdom campaign of Warcraft III Reforged, in its own continuity. Durnholde Keep is where Aedelas Blackmoore kept Thrall as a gladiator slave, and Taretha Foxton helped him escape and was later killed for it. That is why a Horde orc named Krusk spends a whole chain chasing her pendant.

Tarren Mill fell to the Scourge in the Third War and now belongs to the Forsaken, who answer to Varimathras and test plagues on local farmers. Southshore is one of the last human towns of Lordaeron, run by Magistrate Henry Maleb and Marshal Redpath. The house of Perenolde betrayed the Alliance in the Second War, and the Syndicate are its heirs in spirit.

Dalaran is the Forever twist. Archimonde flattened it, the Kirin Tor rebuilt it behind a shield, and in Forever that shield is down. Arcane constructs and demonic energy now leak into the same hills the Dalaran quests from Tarren Mill already send you to.

Where to Go Next

The WoW Forever Dalaran dungeon is the natural exit. It sits in Alterac Mountains, targets 28-33, starts in the sewers of the Underbelly, and runs through bosses like the Arcane Anomaly and the Shade of the Archmage. Remember the Forever XP rule: its trash gives less than before, so take every quest the Kirin Tor hand out before zoning in.

Beyond it, the WoW Forever leveling route splits by faction. Horde goes to Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands, the Taretha chain in Alterac Mountains, Scarlet Monastery Graveyard, and Desolace via Regthar Deathgate. Alliance goes to Refuge Pointe, Stranglethorn Vale, or the new Riverglades at 35. For anyone who remembers WoW Classic Plus leveling as a rumor, the Riverglades is the real fix for the old 38 slump on both factions.
