Every Aion 2 class tier list you find right now is either outdated, measured at the wrong Combat Power bracket, or based on a 60-second dummy parse that has nothing to do with how a real raid fight plays out. Aion 2 launched globally with 8 classes, each shaped by a full year of balance patches on Korean and Taiwanese servers before global players ever touched them. The result is a DPS field that is genuinely close, where the gap between the strongest and weakest damage class is a few percentage points, not a full tier. This guide skips the letter grades and tells you what actually matters: which class wins in short fights, which one holds up in long progression content, and which roles no group can function without.
Why most tier lists get Aion 2 wrong
Flat rankings assume your damage is one fixed number. Aion 2 breaks that assumption in three ways.
First, Combat Power (CP) brackets change everything. The game's own tracking tools compare your damage to other players in a narrow CP range on the same boss. A class that leads at 300k CP can fall behind at 800k CP because stat scaling, diminishing returns, and Arcana access all shift as you gear up. Ranking a class once at one gear level and calling it final ignores all of this.
Second, fight type matters. A one-minute dummy parse, a fast Conquest clear, and a fresh Transcendence progression run are three different tests. They reward different things. A class can top one and sit in the middle on another.
Third, fight duration separates burst classes from sustained ones. Burst classes pack their damage into short cooldown windows. Shrink a fight to 15 seconds and the burst class wins by a lot. Stretch it to a five-minute progression encounter with mechanics cutting into your uptime, and that gap shrinks or flips entirely.
Community DPS tools also track two different numbers that most tier lists mix up:
- DPS (Full Parse): total damage in real group content with every party buff active, Chanter mantras, Cleric buffs, Abyss set bonuses, food, and potions included. This is the number you see on a raid leaderboard.
- NDPS (Naked DPS): solo damage on a target dummy with zero party buffs. This shows what your class can do alone, regardless of group composition.
A class that looks average on NDPS but great on full parse scales exceptionally well with party buffs. A class that does the opposite has a kit that does not gain much from outside buffs. Neither shape is better on its own. Which one matters depends on whether you care about your personal parse or clearing content with your usual group.
How each class actually performs
Assassin
Assassin is the clearest winner in farm content and short fights. Its burst damage, built from cooldowns like Illusive Clone and cancel combos like Savage Roar into Heart Gore, wins easily when a fight ends before a second burst cycle starts. That edge fades in long progression raids. There, Assassin spends more time between burst windows than inside them, and target switches or mechanic downtime hurt a front-loaded kit more than a steady one. A recent patch lengthened the cancel timing on its main combo and gave back some flat PvE damage in return, softening but not removing the high skill ceiling that has always made Assassin harder to play well than most other classes.
In PvP, Assassin is the strongest solo duelist in the game. Its combination of burst damage, crowd control, and stealth makes it extremely dangerous in one-on-one fights. In large-scale PvP involving hundreds of players, melee exposure becomes a real liability and it drops a tier.

Gladiator
Gladiator posts some of the best one-minute dummy numbers in the game. That is mostly because its AoE-heavy kit hits hard against a target that does not move or fight back. Move to real Conquest and Expedition fights and its average performance lands closer to the middle of the pack. Part of its value comes from party buffs and lifesteal, not pure personal damage. A balance patch also cut main-skill lifesteal on several classes including Gladiator, pulling some of its earlier survival advantage back toward average.
Gladiator genuinely earns its place in Nightmare content, the game's tower-style solo boss encounters. Its defense and sustain let it survive prolonged fights where squishier DPS classes struggle to stay alive long enough to deal meaningful damage.

Sorcerer
Sorcerer had a rough start on the Korean build. Low survivability made it hard to turn raw damage into raid value since dying mid-fight resets your damage ramp to zero. Later patches fixed most of this, including a rework of its Fire Mark passive into a guaranteed proc instead of a random one. This smoothed out its damage ramp significantly. Sorcerer now sits comfortably in the top three for most PvE situations. In short fights only Assassin is more explosive; in longer raid encounters Sorcerer can dominate. Movement-heavy fights remain its weak point since its most important spells require brief standstill casts.
Spiritmaster
Spiritmaster probably improved more than any other class during the game's first year. Its spirit-based damage does not depend on perfect execution the way a melee rotation does. A meaningful chunk of its damage keeps going even if you make a positioning mistake or get forced to move. This makes it unusually durable in mechanic-heavy fights, exactly where burst classes start losing ground. For NDPS, Spiritmaster leads alongside Sorcerer because its damage depends less on outside Attack Increase and Combat Speed stacking than kits built to multiply with party buffs. For mob farming, Spiritmaster is one of the strongest choices thanks to summoned creatures that attack alongside you.
Ranger
Ranger is the most mobile of the sustained DPS classes. A recent patch gave every attack skill an element type, opening up new interactions with elemental damage stats. Its base kit already valued steady uptime over big cooldown windows, which keeps it competitive in long fights with low downtime. At global launch, Ranger is arguably the best class for open-world farming. What it lacks are the absolute top DPS values in endgame raid parses. In PvP, its long-range kit and kiting ability make it effective across all formats from solo duels to large-scale battles.

Templar
Templar is the only true tank in the game and the first slot filled in any serious group. It generates the highest threat values, provides stronger offensive and defensive buffs than Gladiator, and avoids more incoming damage through its shield-based kit. Templar has received more rework than almost any other class. An August rebalance changed how its Judgment skill triggers from a reaction to something else into a player-controlled rotation element. Punishment became a long-range projectile instead of an AoE centered on the Templar. A follow-up patch retuned Spec 4 skill chains with more PvE damage but less PvP damage, and the most recent patch stretched cancel timing on the Pummel into Judgment combo while adding flat PvE damage back.
None of this shows up on a DPS chart because that was never Templar's job. Its value comes from its role.

Cleric
Cleric is the primary healer and holds the only resurrection skill in the game. That alone earns it a permanent group slot regardless of what its damage looks like. In group content, Cleric's healing output, debuff cleansing, and recovery tools are unmatched. For solo Nightmare content or mob farming, its lower damage output is a real limitation. The best Clerics keep allies alive while contributing noticeable damage, but no group ever brings a Cleric for its numbers.

Chanter
Chanter is a hybrid that has shifted away from pure support over recent patches. A rework changed how its Dark Crush skill triggers and cut the MP cost and cooldown on Spinning Strike, giving Chanter more room to deal direct damage without losing mantra value. Its buffs and cleansing abilities make it more valuable in group PvP and team-based content than in solo scenarios. In familiar content you are farming for speed, Chanter can substitute for Cleric in the healer slot while contributing real personal damage. Since the key buff from Chanter and Cleric does not stack, groups rarely bring both.

What does the balance history tell us?
Global launch inherits a build shaped by a full year of patches. The pattern across that history is consistent: extreme outliers get pulled back toward the middle, and classes that were hard to play due to long cancel-chain macros or random procs get smoothed out without losing what makes them interesting.
This is exactly the kind of sustained balancing that closes the gap between an okay class and a great one, which is the main reason a flat tier list is less useful now than it would have been a year ago.
Which class should you pick for each situation?
What does the perfect group look like?
For fresh, challenging 5-player content, the recommended composition is Templar in the tank slot, Cleric as healer, and three DPS slots filled from Assassin, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, and Ranger.
For familiar content you want to clear fast, swap to Gladiator as tank and Chanter as healer, then bring Assassin for burst plus two of the sustained ranged DPS classes. In 10-player raids you can include every archetype, with the remaining slots going to additional DPS specialists.
Class stacking is not a meaningful concern in Aion 2's endgame. The meta favors diverse compositions because each class brings buffs and utility that do not stack with duplicates of the same class.
The honest verdict
Outside of Templar and Cleric, whose value comes from their roles rather than raw damage, the gap between the strongest and weakest DPS class right now shows up as a few percentage points on a parse log. That means the biggest decision most players can make is not which class sits slightly ahead on a leaderboard today. Picking a playstyle you will enjoy for the hundreds of hours it takes to gear a character in this game matters far more. A class you like playing will always beat a slightly stronger class you dislike.
The balance history above also shows that today's small edge could move to a different class with the next patch. Before you lock in, make sure your hotbar is set up to get the most out of whichever class you choose. The Aion 2 hotbar guide covering skills, items, and macros walks through exactly how to bind consumables, active skills, Stigma abilities, and 20-slot macro presets so your rotation actually fires correctly. For everything else, the full Aion 2 strategy guides collection has you covered as the meta continues to develop. Aion 2 sits alongside other deep adventure games that reward long-term investment, and the class you choose will define that experience.
