The Clumsy Slime quest in DAVE THE DIVER: In the Jungle sounds simple enough on paper. Perak wants a wooden toy, you need a specific piece of wood, and all that stands between you and completing the errand is one of the toughest bosses in the DLC. The Rough Toad is no pushover, sitting at just over 1,600 HP with a full toolkit of poison-based attacks that will wipe an unprepared party fast. Here is everything you need to complete this quest from start to finish.
How do you start the Clumsy Slime quest?
The quest kicks off after speaking with Peneb, who tells you that harvesting the Purity Tree requires a Black Iron Axe. If you have already been mining the mineral rocks around the village or in the early lake layers, there is a good chance you have Black Iron sitting in your inventory already. If not, head to those rocks and farm what you need.
Once you have the material, return to the blacksmith Perak and craft the axe. That is the only prerequisite before heading into the jungle.

Where is the Purity Tree located?
With the axe in hand, head into the jungle and navigate to the crossroads. Take a left at the fork. Follow the path to its end and you will spot a large, notably slender tree. Walk up to it and a brief cutscene plays before you can start chopping. Keep swinging until the Purity Tree falls.
The moment the tree hits the ground, the Rough Toad emerges from the surrounding woods. There is no backing out at this point, so make sure your party is fully healed and your consumables are topped off before you trigger the chop.

How do you beat the Rough Toad boss?
The Rough Toad is the hardest fight you will have encountered in the DLC up to this point. With over 1,600 HP, it hits hard and hits often, but its real danger is the poison mechanic. One of its attacks is a party-wide hit that damages, slows, and inflicts poison on everyone simultaneously. Let that go unmanaged and the fight unravels quickly.
Party roles and who does what
The most effective approach is to assign clear roles to each party member rather than having everyone attack freely.
Muna is your most valuable asset in this fight. Her ability to buff the party's attack, strip the Rough Toad's defense, and cleanse poison with her Vaccine skill makes her far more useful as a dedicated support than as an attacker. Avoid spending her turns on damage.
Cobra's Incendiary Sniper Rifle can apply burn to the Rough Toad, dealing passive damage over time. The catch is that each use costs 10 AP, so it is very easy to drain Cobra's AP bar in just a few rounds. Manage his resources carefully with herbs or grilled meats between uses.
Dave should be leaning on his giant shark summon when it is available. When Muna has buffed the party, that ability can deal well over 100 damage per use. Dave's healing tools are equally important here, keep the team alive when the toad's poison starts stacking.
What attacks does the Rough Toad use?
Most of the Rough Toad's moves are straightforward. It will jump on party members or bite them, and both of those can be blocked without much trouble. The attack to watch for is the poison mucus, which hits the whole party and applies the slow and poison status effects at once.
The good news is that the Rough Toad can be inflicted with status effects itself. Burn from Cobra's rifle and other debuffs from Muna will stack up and make the fight considerably shorter. Treat every turn as an opportunity to either apply pressure or manage your team's health, and the 1,600 HP bar comes down faster than it looks.
What happens after you defeat the Rough Toad?
With the Rough Toad down, head back to Utara Village and speak with Peneb. He will craft the wooden slime toy using the Purity Tree wood. Take the finished toy back to Perak and the Clumsy Slime quest wraps up.
