Disney Dreamlight Valley: How to Complete The Big Red Monster (Chapter 5)

Eeyore is finally in Disney Dreamlight Valley, but he's still gloomy. The flowers in Gloommeadow are dried up because the river got blocked during the previous chapter, and now there's talk of a big red monster lurking in the Everoak Tree. Chapter 5: The Big Red Monster sends you on a crafting-and-cooking sprint through Drowsybloom Acre and Gloommeadow before the truth behind the monster becomes clear in the most Winnie-the-Pooh way imaginable.

How to start Chapter 5: The Big Red Monster

Speak to Eeyore after finishing Chapter 4: A Tail Tale. He'll explain that the dried flowers are a direct result of the blocked river, and the conversation will naturally shift to the monster he believes is hiding in the Everoak Tree. Once you've heard him out, the quest begins.

What materials do you need to craft the Storybook Sword and Heroic Helmet?

Your first task is putting together two pieces of gear: the Storybook Sword and the Heroic Helmet. Both items share a single combined material list, so gather everything at once before heading to a crafting station.

All seven materials are available across both Drowsybloom Acre and Gloommeadow, so you won't need to leave the Honeyglow Woods area. Honey Agate and Soft Limestone both come from the same dark mining spots, which helps cut down on travel time. Sweet Chestnuts drop from trees rather than the ground, so look up rather than down for those.

Once you have everything, craft both items at any crafting station in either biome, then return to Eeyore.

What happens after you craft the gear?

With the Storybook Sword and Heroic Helmet in hand, head back to Eeyore. The two of you will approach a wall of fog together, but Eeyore loses his nerve at the last moment and can't go any further. You volunteer to push ahead alone.

On the way, you'll spot sparkles near the fog wall. Interact with them to collect Fog Dust, then report back to Eeyore. After discussing what you found, the plan becomes clear: cook a Fog-Busting Potion to push through the fog on your next attempt.

How to cook the Fog-Busting Potion

The Fog-Busting Potion requires four specific ingredients. Here's where to find each one:

  • Juniper Berries: Grow on bushes in Gloommeadow. Hard to miss once you know what you're looking for.
  • Golden Pattypan: A crop with a 20-minute grow time. Buy the seeds from the shop in Drowsybloom Acre, plant them, and wait.
  • Truffle: A wild herb that appears throughout both biomes. Easiest ingredient on the list.
  • Plush Fish: The awkward one. These only spawn in orange ripples in Honeyglow Woods water. If there are no orange ripples visible, fish in blue or white ripples until an orange one randomly appears, then switch to it immediately.
warning
Don't skip straight to the cooking station before you have a Plush Fish. Orange ripples don't always appear on demand, so start fishing early to avoid waiting around later in the quest.

Once all four ingredients are in your inventory, head to any cooking station and prepare the potion. Return to Eeyore and Pooh Bear, talk to both of them, then use the potion from your inventory. Your watering can gets a fog-piercing upgrade, opening a small area in the bottom-right corner of Gloommeadow.

Finding the Big Red Monster

Enter the newly accessible area in the bottom-right corner of Gloommeadow. The big red monster turns out to be hiding in a tree. Tell Pooh Bear what you found, then clear away the tree branches on the ground and pick up the blue clothing pouch.

Opening the pouch reveals a pair of big red pajamas. Equip them, then return to Eeyore while wearing the pajamas to complete Chapter 5: The Big Red Monster. The quest wraps up immediately and flows directly into Chapter 6: A Place for Eeyore.

tip
The pajamas are a wearable costume item, not a consumable. Make sure they're actually equipped before talking to Eeyore or the quest won't register completion.

The Honeyglow Woods storyline has a lot of multi-step quests with overlapping resource needs. If you're working through the full arc, the Misplaced Honey quest walkthrough and the Chapter 1: All You Need is Honey walkthrough cover the earlier stages of this same storyline.
