The Escape Maze is the sixth and final puzzle in Disney Dreamlight Valley's Springtime Floating Festival event, and it's the toughest one by a clear margin. Unlike the other festival challenges, this one puts you up against the Queen's Royal Guards and their sweeping spotlights in a stealth-navigation course. Get caught and you respawn nearby, but get it right and a red chest with an exclusive accessory is waiting at the end.
Where do you find the Escape Maze entrance?
The entrance is easy to miss because it sits right next to the Labyrinth puzzle entrance, and players regularly interact with the wrong one. Here's exactly how to reach it:
- Spawn at the well on the event island, which is your default arrival point every time you travel to the festival.
- Walk straight ahead, passing under the archway of Tinker Bell's house.
- Continue through Alice's Curious Labyrinth hedge archway.
- Once inside, look for the wooden arrow sign pointing right. Interact with the sparkling spot on the ground next to that sign, not the entrance on the left, to teleport directly into the Escape Maze.

How does the Escape Maze work?
Once you load in, a pink flower on your right explains the rules: don't let the Queen's guards spot you. The guards patrol with yellow lines of sight that turn red the moment you touch them. Contact means you get sent back to a nearby checkpoint, not the very beginning, so dying isn't catastrophic, but it does cost time.
According to IGN's wiki guide, players who completed the Cheshire Cat's "The Queen's Maze" quest during the Wonderland Whimsy Update will recognize the same stealth mechanics here. The Escape Maze is also the same physical maze as the Labyrinth puzzle, but you're running it in reverse, starting from what was the Labyrinth's end point near the ruins in the middle.
Two general rules that make the whole run much easier:
- Stop and watch each guard's full patrol cycle before moving. Every pattern repeats: back and forth, side to side, or circular. Once you see one full loop, you know the safe window.
- You can get close to a line of sight without triggering it. Hedge gaps and tight corridors are your friends. Position yourself right at the edge and wait for the gap.
Escape Maze walkthrough
The directions below follow the complete path from the pink flower at the start to the red chest at the exit, based on the walkthrough documented by both Destructoid and IGN.
Getting past the first guards
- After speaking to the pink flower, exit the ruins straight ahead and stop before turning left. A Royal Guard stands in the left corner, rotating left then right with roughly a four-second pause between turns. Wait for the guard to turn away, then move past.
- Continue down the long, thin path to its end, then navigate through the gaps while steering clear of all stationary guards along the sides.
Navigating the mid-section
- You'll reach a section where one guard blocks the path on your right and another sits at the far end of the path ahead. Rather than going right, loop around through the alternative turns to avoid both.
- Follow the path around past a guard with its back turned, continuing until you reach a yellow daffodil and the next stationary guard ahead.
The circular spotlight section
This is the hardest part of the maze. Three round search lights rotate in a circular pattern around the yellow daffodil. The guard on the left blocks that route entirely, so you have to go through the circling lights.
- Watch the full rotation cycle first.
- When a large enough gap opens, move through quickly and keep moving. Stopping inside the circle is the fastest way to get caught.
- Avoid the light with the double circle indicator. The gap behind it is too narrow to pass safely.
- Exit toward the far side as soon as you clear the rotation.
The final straight
- From the dandelion, follow the path until you hit a straight-line spotlight moving back and forth. Wait for it to clear, then take the next two turns.
- A second straight-line spotlight appears shortly after. Same approach: wait for it to pass, then proceed.
- Turn at the teapot fountain and wait at the end of that path for another back-and-forth light to create a gap.
- After clearing that light, follow the path right, past the ruins at the end, to avoid the final light.
- Continue straight to find the red chest next to the maze exit.
Open the chest, then interact with the sparkling spot directly behind it to exit and return to the festival island.
If you get caught at any point, you respawn near your last position. You do not restart from the beginning, so don't panic if you trigger a guard during the circular section.
What's the reward for completing the Escape Maze?
Clearing the maze and opening the red chest unlocks the Wonderland Bird Umbrella. According to IGN's guide, it's a black umbrella with a pink bird design that you equip as an accessory through the Wardrobe Menu. It can be carried alongside any outfit.
How does the Escape Maze compare to the other festival puzzles?
The Springtime Floating Festival has 6 puzzles total. Here's a quick breakdown of where the Escape Maze sits relative to the others in terms of type and challenge:
The Escape Maze is notably the only puzzle that introduces a fail state (getting caught), which is why it's considered the most challenging of the six.
Where to go after the Escape Maze
With all 6 puzzles available, finishing the Escape Maze means you can focus on collecting any remaining rewards before the event closes. Check the Springtime Floating Festival event guide for a full overview of every puzzle and prize.
