Phil has decided that Goofy is going to be a hero, and he needs your help to prove it. The An Unlikely Hero quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley sends you on a fishing errand that sounds simple enough until you're standing at the water's edge with no idea where to actually cast your line. The Ornery Crocodile is the target, and its spawn point is specific enough that wandering the biome at random will cost you a lot of time.
Where does the Ornery Crocodile spawn?
The Ornery Crocodile lives exclusively in the Glade of Trust, and you won't find it in the ponds or the large pool of water at the northern end of the biome. The creature only appears in the river that runs near the giant willow tree at the center of the area, which is the same tree Mother Gothel calls home.
The spawn point is a golden ripple spot somewhere along that stretch of river. Based on testing this quest, the spot tends to appear directly south of the wooden bridge near the eastern end of the biome, but the exact position can shift slightly between players. What won't change is the zone: stick to the river around the willow tree and ignore everything else.

How to catch the Ornery Crocodile
Once you've located the golden ripple spot in the river, equip your Royal Fishing Rod and cast into it. The catch itself is straightforward once you're standing in the right place. The frustrating part of this quest is the search, not the fishing mechanic.
Here's the catch that trips up a lot of players: the Ornery Crocodile's ripple spot looks identical to every other golden bubble spot in the biome. There are no special sparkles, no unique color, nothing to distinguish it visually before you actually pull the crocodile out. You'll only know you've found the right spot when the catch animation plays.

What to do if the spot isn't appearing
If you've scoured the river and can't find a golden ripple spot at all, the most reliable fix is to clear every other golden bubble spot you can find throughout the Glade of Trust. The game has a limited number of active spots per biome, and older uncleared ones can prevent new quest-specific spots from generating.
Work your way through the biome, fish up whatever golden spots you find, then return to the river near the willow tree. The Ornery Crocodile's spot should open up after clearing the backlog.
What comes next after catching the Ornery Crocodile?
Handing the Ornery Crocodile over to Phil moves the An Unlikely Hero quest forward, but there's plenty more to do around the valley. If you're working through Olaf's current questline, the Olaf's Grand Exhibition quest walkthrough covers everything you need for the Aquarium, Diorama, and Habitat rooms.
For everything else Phil, Goofy, and the rest of the valley throw at you, the full Disney Dreamlight Valley guide collection has walkthroughs for quests, materials, and collectibles across every biome.
