FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE has 12 Legendary Arms scattered across its world, covering weapons, armor, and accessories. Collecting all 12 unlocks the Legendary Arms trophy and achievement, and every single one remains available after the main story ends, so nothing is missable. The catch is that each item starts in a weak "Ancient" state and only becomes truly powerful after you clear a trial battle back at the Chamber of Arms. This guide covers every location, every prerequisite, and every trial enemy so you can grab them all efficiently.

How does the Legendary Arms system work?

The process has two distinct phases. First, you find the Ancient version of each item scattered around the world. These are genuinely weak and not worth equipping. Once you have one, head to the Chamber of Arms, a small temple on the mountainous island between Dirnado and Gronoa. You can reach it by airship starting in Chapter 5.

Inside the Chamber, follow the corridor and step through the portal to reach the room with all 12 crystallized pedestals arranged in a circle. Interacting with a pedestal tied to an item you already own will trigger a trial: a two-stage fight against a Level 50 enemy. Win, and the Ancient item upgrades into its full Legendary form with a new name.

After collecting all 12 and earning the trophy, each pedestal offers an optional Level 75 rematch. Clearing those nets a "+" version of each Legendary Arm, but these are purely bonus content and not required for any trophy.

You can interact with pedestals before finding the corresponding Ancient item to receive a location hint, though you can also skip that step entirely and use this guide instead.

What do you need before you can start?

The only hard prerequisite is reaching Chapter 5 and obtaining the airship. That unlocks access to the Chamber of Arms and opens up several locations that are otherwise unreachable. Two specific Arms (the Ancient Garment and Ancient Hammer) also require the treasure radar upgrade, which involves a side step in Gaberada during Chapter 6. The full details are in the individual entries below.

Ancient Whip (becomes Fire Birch)

Turn in 84 Tablet Shards to the Enigmatic Princess at Oblivion Palace. The whip is found in Chest VI of Treasure Room 3. Trial enemy: Nunki.

Ancient Cloak (becomes Lordly Robes)

Buy from a Merchant Trader ship in Chapter 8 for 40,000 gil. These are random vessels sailing the World Map. Hover your airship above one and interact to purchase. If you are short on gil, the ships respawn after a short wait. No trial enemy for this one.

Ancient Accessory (becomes Gold Hairpin)

Found in a chest inside Quarry Cave on the island off the west coast of Zoldaad Empire Territory. Airship required to reach the island. Trial enemy: Brachum.

Ancient Garment (becomes Mirage Vest)

This one requires the treasure radar first. Head to Gaberada, the Undertown in Gronoa, available in Chapter 6. Behind the inn, take the hidden path down the stairs to the west to find an NPC near a ledge by the water. He hands over the radar, and your companion Lid provides hot-and-cold feedback as you ping with the scanner.

Once you have the radar, scan the cove on the east coast of Gronoa to locate the Ancient Garment. Trial enemy: Vindemiatrix.

Ancient Katana (becomes Sasuke's Blade)

Chest in the Crystal Tower during Chapter 8. It sits just west of the Save Point near the airship entrance to the Middle Reach section of the tower. Trial enemy: Aldhafera.

Ancient Hammer (becomes Thor's Hammer)

This requires two upgrades to the treasure radar. First, get the base radar from Gaberada (see Ancient Garment above). Then find the High-Power Generator in a chest along the story path on Mt. Reizan in Chapter 7. With that upgrade installed, scan the cove on the west coast of Dirnado to find the Ancient Hammer. Trial enemy: Tegmine.

Ancient Firearm (becomes Arcturus)

Turn in 76 Tablet Shards to the Enigmatic Princess at Oblivion Palace. Located in Chest IV of Treasure Room 3. Trial enemy: Alhena.

Ancient Tome (becomes Last Resort)

Buy from a Merchant Trader ship in Chapter 8 for 45,000 gil. Same mechanic as the Ancient Cloak: find a random trader vessel on the World Map and purchase. Trial enemy: Elnath.

Ancient Rod (becomes Wizard's Rod)

This has a small multi-step sequence. First, travel to the Abandoned Cabin in the northeast of the Kingdom of Pharm. It is locked, but visiting it is required to trigger the next dialogue. Head south to the Town of Sian and speak to the man standing in front of the inn in the northwest part of town. He gives you the cabin key. Return to the cabin, unlock it, and open the chest inside. Trial enemy: Sheratan.

Ancient Greatsword (becomes Ragnarok)

Prize for winning Fledgling Battle 3 at the Colosseum. This is a first-time clear reward, so you only need to win it once. Trial enemy: Alpherg.

Ancient Cuirass (becomes Tatenashi Armour)

Prize for winning Brawler Battle 5 at the Colosseum. Again, first-time clear reward. Trial enemy: Sadalsuud.

Ancient Bow (becomes Artemis Bow)

Speak to Chloe (an NPC you meet early in the story) at the Item Shop in the Town of Felicitas in the Kingdom of Grandshelt, after obtaining the airship in Chapter 5. She will then move to the Chamber of Arms. Speak to her again inside the Chamber and she hands over the Ancient Bow directly. Trial enemy: Dabih.

Tips for completing all trials efficiently

Every trial follows the same two-stage structure against a named Level 50 enemy. There are no shortcuts, but a few things make the process smoother:

  • Do not attempt trials immediately after finding each Ancient item. Waiting until your party is well-leveled saves a lot of frustration.
  • After earning all 12 Legendary Arms and the Legendary Arms trophy, the optional Level 75 rematches become available at each pedestal. These award "+" versions of every arm, but are purely optional.
  • The two Tablet Shard Arms (Ancient Whip at 84 shards, Ancient Firearm at 76 shards) require significant side content investment. Prioritize Tablet Shard collection early if you want these available before the late game.
  • The Colosseum Arms (Ancient Greatsword and Ancient Cuirass) are tied to specific battle tiers. Make sure to enter Fledgling Battle 3 and Brawler Battle 5 specifically, as the rewards are first-time-clear only.
