Espers have been a cornerstone of Final Fantasy since the series started cycling through names for them. Summons, Aeons, Guardian Forces, Eikons — FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE calls them Espers, and they work the same way they always have: beat them into submission, and they fight for you. There are 9 total, spread across all seven chapters, and only Siren is mandatory. The other 8 require you to go looking.

This guide covers every Esper in order of earliest availability, with the recommended level, elemental weakness, and exactly where to find each one.

Chapter 1: Siren

Siren is the only Esper you cannot miss. She joins automatically during the Tailing the Truth main story quest in Chapter 1. No fight, no detour — she's just part of the story. After recruiting her, an NPC near the Inn at Grandport Harbor will mention a desert-dwelling Esper. That's Titan. File it away; you won't be able to act on it until Chapter 4.

Chapter 2: Ramuh

How to find Ramuh

When you arrive in Dilmagia, speak to the girl standing on the right side of the entrance. She'll bring up a rumor about a thunderous creature and mark Ramuh's dwelling on your map. Progress through the main story until you cross Mt. Thunderclap. After crossing it and returning to the world map, the game directs you toward Dwarven Forge. On the way, look for a sign and head east from it to loop back into Mt. Thunderclap. Follow that path to a save point and a tombstone at the end.

Interact with the tombstone and Ramuh will pose a riddle. The correct answer is "it's terrifying," but there's no penalty for picking the wrong ones first — the alternate dialogue is worth reading. Win the fight and Ramuh is yours.

Chapter 3: Carbuncle

How to find Carbuncle

Carbuncle is a scavenger hunt, not a boss fight. At the start of Chapter 3, you'll be near the beach. Head northwest to find a Sanctum, and just past it is the Ruby Cave. Read the stele inside to get a riddle with directional clues around Olderion.

You need three Ruby Fragments:

  • Fragment 1: From the Olderion exit, go east, then south at the sign, then slightly west. A sparkling spot sits between two lakes.
  • Fragment 2: Return to the sign and go east. Instead of climbing the slope toward the Water Cave, stay at ground level and head east to the coast, then turn north. Pick up the sparkling item on the ground.
  • Fragment 3: Head west from Olderion to the seven waterfalls. Cross one more bridge west and grab the fragment on the high ground.

Return to the Ruby Cave, interact with the stele again, and Carbuncle joins without a fight.

Chapter 4: Titan

How to find Titan

Once you reach Zoldaad, the Imperial Capital, check the bulletin board to learn the Grandshelt Colosseum has reopened. Head there and clear the Fledgling League. Winning Fledgling Battle 5 rewards you with the Gaia Hammer, a weapon for Lid that also doubles as the key to Titan's seal.

With the Gaia Hammer equipped, travel to the Grand Shell Desert east of Grandport Harbor. Use the hammer to smash the seal. Titan emerges grateful, then immediately challenges you to prove you deserve his power. Beat him and he joins at recommended level 30. He's immune to Earth and weak to Wind, so stack Wind-aspected Visions.

Chapter 5: Ifrit, Leviathan, and Shiva

Chapter 5 is the most Esper-dense stretch of the game. You gain the airship at the chapter's start, which opens up world exploration and makes all three of these accessible.

How to find Ifrit

A male researcher in Zoldaad's inn mentions Ifrit's dwelling during Chapter 4, but the airship is required to reach it. Once you have it, fly directly into the volcano and enter when prompted. Ifrit is immune to Fire and weak to Water, so bring Nichol and Water-aspected Visions. Win the fight and the Esper of Fire joins at recommended level 33.

How to find Leviathan

Leviathan is another no-combat recruit. Go to Olderion and pick up the Nichol's Duty sub quest. After accepting it, speak to another NPC in Olderion and then travel to Lake Dorr. Your next stop is southeast of Olderion on the world map, where you'll encounter a sahagin — a weak enemy, nothing threatening. After defeating it, head to the Cave of Waters entrance and engage the sahagin again to uncover the backstory. Return to Lake Dorr for the final cutscene, and Leviathan joins as Fina's water Esper.

How to find Shiva

Mysidia is genuinely harder to locate than Shiva herself. Once you have access to the continent, look for a small island to the southwest. An NPC in the Village of Sunioo's inn will mark her dwelling on your map. An ice whirlwind spins on the island — walk into it to trigger the duel. You can back out if you're not ready, then return when you are. Shiva resists Water and Ice, absorbs Ice, and is weak to Fire. Win at recommended level 35 and she joins.

Chapter 6: Odin

How to find Odin

Odin's acquisition is the most involved of any Esper. It starts with the Iron Splitter sub quest in Gronoa, which unlocks after you complete events at the Research Center Ruins and Fina learns Holy back in Gaberada. Once Holy is learned, clear the miasma and travel to the far east of the continent to find the Bladerain Stele cave. Interact with the stele to begin the quest.

Continue the main story through the Rugged Mountain Path. When you wake up in the Town of Duggle, head toward the Gronoa Shrine. At the crossroads sign, go south, then follow the miasma path north to find a second stele. Interacting with it triggers a fight — win to receive the Broken Sword Blade.

Finally, fast-travel to the Nameless Ruins south of Mysidia. Teleport to the second save point and enter the north room. Interact with the NPC there, watch the cutscene, and Odin is yours. He's weak to Lightning with no resistances, and the recommended level is 45.

Chapter 7: Bahamut

How to find and beat Bahamut

Early in Chapter 7, after returning to the airship, a cutscene plays where both Finas hear the voice of the Esper Lord of the Heavens. Speak to Evan to pursue it, and the fight begins immediately after accepting.

Bahamut is the hardest Esper fight in the game. He has no elemental weakness or resistance, and he can stack ailments and debuffs across your entire party simultaneously. The recommended level is 50, and the source material is blunt about it: you will likely lose the first time if you go in unprepared. Before attempting this fight, make sure your main party members have their Adamantite Weapons and that you've leveled a strong Vision roster, with Ayaka as a priority.

If you've collected every other Esper before defeating Bahamut, you'll unlock the The Sovereigns of the Planet trophy and achievement upon winning.

What's the reward for collecting all Espers?

Beyond the combat utility of having 9 summons available to Fina, clearing all Espers before beating Bahamut earns The Sovereigns of the Planet trophy and achievement. It's a completionist milestone worth pursuing if you're already working through the optional content.
