The Out of Sight quest in Gothic 1 Remake is one of those early quests that looks simple on the surface but quietly branches into decisions that affect your standing with multiple factions. Thorus wants a New Camp merchant removed from Old Camp territory, and how you handle that removal is entirely your call. Kill him, escort him, or rough him up and send him packing, each path has different XP values and downstream consequences worth knowing before you commit.
How do you unlock Out of Sight?
The quest comes from Thorus, who stands at the Old Camp Castle entrance. He doesn't hand it over immediately. You need to push through a specific dialogue chain to get him to assign you anything at all.
Work through these options in order:
- "How about you test me? See if I got what it takes?"
- "All right, but there has to be something I can do for you."
- "Whatever you need done, I can handle it."
- "I'm ready for that job you mentioned."
Once you hit that fourth option, Thorus explains the situation with Mordrag, a New Camp merchant operating near the south exit of Old Camp, and the quest registers in your log.

Where do you find Mordrag?
Mordrag hangs around the south of Old Camp, close to the South Gate. Head east from Thorus and follow the path down. He'll actually call out to you the first time you get close enough, so you won't miss him.
Once you're in conversation, two dialogue paths split the quest:
- "You have a problem." or "Is it true you're a courier for the water mages?" opens the peaceful resolution and lets you travel with Mordrag to New Camp.
- "This camp is too small for the two of us." starts a fight immediately.
What are all the ways to deal with Mordrag?
Thorus tells you the method is up to you, and he means it. There are three distinct outcomes:
After any of these outcomes, return to Thorus to report the result. He awards 250 XP and his vote for your Admission to the Old Camp main quest. You also get access to Mordrag's old residence, which gives you a bed and storage space.

Should you escort Mordrag or kill him?
The honest answer: escort him to New Camp, then decide. Traveling with Mordrag marks New Camp on your map and starts Admission to the New Camp, which opens up a whole second faction path. That's valuable even if you're planning to join Old Camp.
At the New Camp entrance, Mordrag hands you Mordrag's Ring and directs you to speak with Laren. If you'd rather kill him during the journey, you can attack him at any point on the road and loot the ring plus the Sting Mace from his body. Either way, you end up with the ring.
The beat-him-up option is the weakest choice. You earn only 100 XP instead of 200, and you miss out on the ring unless you kill him afterward.
What happens on the road back to Old Camp?
If you return to Old Camp immediately after reaching New Camp, two guards at the bridge stop you and demand 10 Ore Nuggets as a bribe. You have three options: pay them, run past them, or fight them. Running is viable but they'll use bows once you're at distance, so factor that in.

What should you do with Mordrag's Ring?
Once you have the ring, two uses are available:
- Give it to Lares in New Camp to advance Admission to the New Camp and unlock the A Piece of the Pie quest.
- Keep it to equip it for a +5 Dexterity bonus, or sell it for ore.
If you're committed to Old Camp and have no interest in the New Camp questline, keeping or selling the ring makes sense. If you want to keep your options open across factions, handing it to Lares pays off in quest progression.
Watch out for Fisk
Completing Out of Sight has one side effect that catches players off guard. Fisk, who appears in the Whistler's Sword quest, is unhappy about Mordrag's departure. The next time you speak to him after this quest, he threatens to vote against you in Admission to the Old Camp.
The fix is straightforward: when he brings it up, offer to help. That starts A New Fence for Fisk, which resolves his grievance and removes the vote threat. The key detail is that if you simply avoid talking to Fisk entirely, his negative vote never activates, and you can still proceed with Diego's quest without issue.
