The Soft Wipe in Gray Zone Warfare Update 0.5: Rogue Ops preserves your completed tasks, rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels, and statistics, but removes your locker contents, equipment, and money. You must also choose where your existing progression continues: Joint Operations (PvE) or Warfare (PvEvP). That transfer is permanent, and your faction stays unchanged.

Choose the mode where you want to use your established character, especially if you're returning to a regular squad. Joint Operations and Warfare now have separate progression, so the mode choice determines where all that retained work belongs.

Patch scope: Update 0.5: Rogue Ops, including the 0.5.0.1 stash-capacity fix.

Which character progression carries over from Update 0.4?

Update 0.5 preserves the progression you've already earned. Completed tasks remain completed, your rank carries over, and your vendor levels survive even though your equipment does not.

Why should you check your vendor levels?

Your retained vendor levels matter because Hideout access depends on vendor ranks. If crafting is your priority, check those ranks before planning your first construction projects.

The Hideout and crafting systems give that retained reputation another purpose in 0.5. For the broader changes beyond the Soft Wipe, read our Rogue Ops 0.5 content guide.

What happens to your locker and money?

The Soft Wipe removes your locker contents, carried equipment, and money. A character can therefore keep its rank and completed tasks while still needing replacement gear.

Rebuild with looted supplies and task rewards before spending heavily on equipment. This is the practical choice for returning players because their accumulated 0.4 money has been cleared.

Is missing locker capacity part of the wipe?

Locker contents and locker capacity are different issues. Hotfix 0.5.0.1, released on October 23, fixed a transition bug that reset stash capacity to its base size for players without DLC, removing space earned through rank progression.

Missing stored equipment is an intended result of the 0.5 Soft Wipe. Missing rank-earned storage space was a bug addressed by 0.5.0.1.

How do you choose a mode for your existing progression?

On your first entry into Update 0.5, choose Joint Operations or Warfare in the transfer prompt. Your existing character's retained progression goes into that mode, so decide around the combat you want and where your squad plans to play.

ModeOpponentsBest forWhy choose it?
Joint OperationsAI enemiesPlayers focused on cooperative tasks and AI combatOther players cannot damage you
WarfareAI enemies and human opponentsPlayers who want PvP alongside AI encountersEnemy players add another threat to deployments

Choose Joint Operations for cooperative PvE

Joint Operations suits players who want to continue their established character without hostile player damage. It remains an online, shared world: other players can clear enemies or collect loot before you arrive.

Deploying solo in Joint Operations does not create an offline or private session. Choose it for AI opposition and cooperative play, rather than an empty version of Lamang.

Choose Warfare for PvEvP

Warfare suits players who want human opponents alongside AI enemies. That difference also affects smuggling: accepting a contract alerts opposing factions and creates hunting opportunities, while PvE uses AI opposition.

If your regular squad is moving into Warfare, confirm that plan before transferring your established character. Choosing Joint Operations instead means you'll need a separate Warfare character to build progression there.

Joint Operations and Warfare options for transferring existing character progression

Choose where your progress belongs

Can you reverse your mode choice?

No. Your existing character's progression cannot move back and forth between Joint Operations and Warfare after the transfer. Additional characters let you play the alternative, but they do not transfer your original character's progress.

How do additional characters work?

Update 0.5 supports multiple playable characters and retires manual account wipes. These are the character-slot restrictions:

  • Your account can hold up to 4 characters.
  • Each character has a selected mode and faction.
  • Two characters cannot share the same mode-and-faction combination at the same time.
  • You can delete 1 character per week.

Use an available slot if you want to try another mode without removing your established character. This is best for experimenting because deletion has a weekly limit, while creating another character leaves your original progression intact.

Does your faction change after the Soft Wipe?

Your existing character keeps its faction during the 0.5 transfer. The prompt assigns a mode to your retained progression; it does not move that character into another faction.

If you want to play with friends in a different faction, create another character with the appropriate faction-and-mode combination. You still need to stay within the 4-character limit and avoid duplicate combinations.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the transfer as a trial run. The existing character's 0.5 mode assignment cannot be reversed. Use another character to try the alternative.
  • Mistaking an empty locker for a complete reset. Tasks, rank, unlocked apparel, vendor levels, and statistics survive even though equipment and money are cleared.
  • Expecting PvE progression to follow you into Warfare. Joint Operations and Warfare have separate progression in 0.5.
  • Deleting a character before checking free slots. An available slot lets you experiment without removing that character, and deletion is limited to 1 per week.

Pro tips

Put your retained progress where you'll use it

Assign your established character to the mode you expect to play most. This is best for players splitting time between Joint Operations and Warfare because a second character can cover the other mode without changing the original assignment.
