How to get the Squirrel in Grow a Garden 2
There are two ways to pick up the Squirrel, and both paths cost exactly the same: 1,200,000 Leaves. The difference is how you find it.
Path 1: Direct pet shop purchase
Head into the Fall Harvest world through Explorer Ethan at the Explorer Stand in Garden Valley. Once inside, check the Fall Harvest pet shop. If Squirrel is listed, buy it directly. This is the straightforward route with no luck factor involved.
Path 2: Roaming wild Squirrel
Squirrel can also appear as a roaming pet anywhere on the Fall Harvest map. The spawn chance is 0.6%, so this is not something you can count on. If one does appear, you need to reach it and complete the Leaves purchase before another player does. The price is identical to the shop version.
The Fall Harvest world opened on August 2, 2026, and is planned to run for roughly 60 days. That gives you a reasonable window to grind Leaves, but factor in the event's end date when planning your farming sessions.

What does the Squirrel's ability actually do?
Once equipped, the Squirrel has a 1% chance per second to trigger its auto-harvest. When it activates, the pet runs to a nearby ripe fruit, picks it up, and delivers it directly to your character. Giant fruit and mutated fruit are both eligible for collection.
If no ripe fruit is available and the Squirrel cannot complete a pickup within 20 seconds, it gives up and returns to idle behavior before entering a short cooldown.
The ability is passive and continuous, so there is no manual activation required. Equip it and it works in the background while you focus on planting, watering, or managing other garden tasks.
Should you equip or store the Squirrel?
This is the real decision point for most players. The Squirrel is genuinely useful, but it is not always the right pet to have equipped.
For pure farming efficiency, Squirrel is excellent. For players chasing specific mutations or trying to maximize the value of individual crops before selling, it introduces too much randomness to be reliable.
Pet slots and inventory planning
The Squirrel competes for equipped pet space. Base pet slot progression caps at 5 equipped pets. The 4th slot costs 200,000 Sheckles and the 5th slot costs 1,000,000 Sheckles, so unlocking those before the event ends is worth prioritizing if you want to run Squirrel alongside mutation-focused pets like Golden Dragonfly or Shadow Dragon.
Fall Harvest also uses a separate inventory from Garden Valley. Anything you want to keep after the event closes needs to be sent back through Magic Mail. Plan your Squirrel acquisition with that deadline in mind.

Yes. Big Squirrel and Mega Squirrel variants can appear during Fall Harvest exploration. These are separate variants to watch for, but their individual stats, pricing differences, and specific effects beyond the base Squirrel are not currently detailed in the event. Treat them as bonus encounters rather than separate pets with fully documented mechanics.
Is the Squirrel worth 1.2 million Leaves?
For the time it saves, yes. Manually collecting ripe fruit across a full garden is something you do hundreds of times per session. The Squirrel removes that entirely, letting you focus on the parts of the game that actually require decisions.
The caveat is the random pickup behavior. Players who run mutation-heavy setups or need precise control over harvest timing will find the Squirrel more of a liability than a tool. For everyone else farming Leaves and selling crops at volume, it earns its price.
