Season 8 of Marvel Rivals lands on May 15, 2026 at 9 AM UTC, and NetEase has shipped a full round of balance changes alongside the debut of Devil Dinosaur and Cyclops. Some heroes get meaningful upgrades, others get trimmed back, and one brand-new team-up ability reshapes how at least two characters play entirely. Here's every confirmed change, broken down by role, with context on what each adjustment actually means for your games.
What are all the Season 8 buffs?
Vanguard buffs
Emma Frost gets the most substantial Vanguard treatment this patch. Her Telepathic Pulse falloff now kicks in after 4 seconds without hitting an enemy (up from 3 seconds), giving her more breathing room in chaotic fights. The Mind's Aegis reposition cooldown drops from 3 seconds to 1 second, which makes repositioning feel far less punishing. On top of that, the damage reduction during Diamond Form and her ultimate Psionic Seduction climbs from 20% to 25%. These changes stack together to make Emma a much stickier frontline presence rather than a hero who gets pressured off her position constantly.

Season 8 balance changes overview
The Thing gets a simpler but direct upgrade: base health increases from 700 to 750. That extra 50 HP might not sound dramatic, but for a hero whose entire job is staying in the enemy's face and applying pressure, it translates to surviving one or two more trades before needing support.
Emma Frost's reduced Mind's Aegis cooldown means you can now reposition almost on demand. Practice weaving in and out of Diamond Form more aggressively to capitalize on the new 25% damage reduction window.
Duelist buffs
Iron Fist sees two changes that tighten up his combo flow. Jeet Kune Do hits now reduce the cooldown of Dragon's Defense by 1.2 seconds per hit (up from 1 second), and the first strike damage of K'un-Lun Kick increases from 35 to 40. The cooldown reduction improvement rewards players who land consistent hits, making his defensive ability come back faster the more aggressively you play.
Moon Knight gets a straightforward mobility improvement: his Hook cooldown drops from 15 seconds to 12 seconds. Three seconds fewer on a movement ability is meaningful for a hero who relies on positioning to land Khonshu's wrath effectively.
Phoenix receives a split adjustment. Cosmic Flames direct hit damage increases from 50 to 55, but the explosion damage when detonating Spark marks drops from 40 to 35. According to NetEase's patch notes, Phoenix can no longer one-shot a 250 health hero with a single mark plus direct hit from Endsong Inferno, but the primary attack buff makes her more dangerous in sustained baseline combat.
Spider-Man's ultimate Spectacular Spin deals more damage per spherical spell field, rising from 13.6 to 15. Over the full 2.4-second duration, total damage increases from 408 to 450.
Squirrel Girl gets a quality-of-life improvement with Mammal Bond cooldown dropping from 15 seconds to 12 seconds.
Star-Lord gains 10 extra rounds in his Element Guns, going from 40 to 50 ammo capacity. More shots before reloading means more consistent pressure in extended fights.
Wolverine'sRegenerative Healing Factor trigger cooldown drops from 105 seconds to 90 seconds. Logan can now bounce back into the action noticeably faster between healing cycles.

Strategist buffs
Loki gets a support-focused shift. His illusions' Mystical Missile healing ratio increases from 90% to 100%, while the damage ratio drops from 90% to 80%. His ultimate God of Mischief costs slightly more energy now, rising from 4300 to 4500, which is a minor tradeoff for the improved healing output.
Rocket Raccoon picks up three separate improvements. Bombard Mode hit damage per projectile goes from 16 to 17. Repair Mode charges increase from 8 to 10. His ultimate C.Y.A. costs less energy to activate, dropping from 4300 to 4000. Combined, these make Rocket more capable of contributing in both offense and support without needing to hold back.
White Fox gets a healing redistribution rather than a flat buff. The aura healing during Fox Form Awakening increases from 25 per second to 35 per second, but the burst healing per successful attack drops from 35 to 25. As NetEase explains, this lowers peak healing when spamming attacks (from 100 per second down to 90 per second) while significantly improving her passive output when she can't maintain targets. Her ultimate Kumiho Unleashed healing to allies also climbs from 40 per second to 60 per second.
White Fox's rework rewards positioning over aggression. The new 35 per second passive aura means she contributes healing even when the enemy team is avoiding her attacks, making her more reliable in coordinated team fights.
What are all the Season 8 nerfs?
Vanguard nerfs
Deadpool takes two hits. His Ban Hammer (Gun Form Ultimate) healing while active drops from 50 per second to 25 per second, cutting his sustain during the ultimate in half. His Dual Desert Eagles single-shot damage also falls, from 36 to 34 in standard form and from 42 to 39 in upgraded form. These nerfs target the combination of high damage output and self-sustain that made him difficult to punish in competitive play.
Duelist nerfs
Mister Fantastic gets a mixed adjustment. Stretch Punch damage increases from 65 to 70, and his ultimate Brainiac Bounce costs less energy (down from 3400 to 3100). However, Flexible Elongation loses its Movement Speed reduction effect entirely, trading crowd-control for a faster charge time (reduced from 8 seconds to 6 seconds). The removal of the slow effect is the real nerf here, since that movement reduction was a key tool for locking down targets.
Strategist nerfs
Invisible Woman loses some knockback and damage on Force Physics. Push distance drops from 12 meters to 10 meters, and damage decreases from 55 to 50. The intent is to reduce the overall control potential of Strategist compositions.
Mantis takes a significant damage-boost nerf. Allied Inspiration damage boost to allies drops from 12% to 8%. To compensate, she gains a new baseline effect: a flat 100 Movement Speed Boost to allies. NetEase's reasoning is that with Ultron now providing conventional damage buff capabilities, Mantis needs a more distinct role, and movement speed fits that niche better than stacking damage amplification.
If your ranked compositions relied on Mantis for that 12% damage boost, you'll need to account for the 4% loss. The movement speed buff is useful, but it doesn't fully replace the damage amplification in burst-focused team comps.
What new team-up abilities arrive in Season 8?
Primal Punishment (Devil Dinosaur and The Punisher)
The new Primal Punishment team-up pairs Devil Dinosaur as the anchor with The Punisher as the rider. Devil Dinosaur gains 100 Bonus Health as the anchor. The Punisher unlocks Ancient Judgement, which lets him ride on Devil Dinosaur's back while the dinosaur tears through the enemy frontline. While riding, Frank Castle can only use his normal attacks (Adjudication or Deliverance), but he automatically receives extra damage reduction and shares a percentage of incoming damage. Healing from Strategists directed at The Punisher also transfers directly to Devil Dinosaur.
Adjusted: Chilling Assault (Luna Snow, Iron Fist, Emma Frost)
The existing Chilling Assault team-up expands its operational range. The Iced Out Diamond Spell Field increases from 9 meters to 12 meters, and the barrier placement distance extends to match the new 12-meter radius. More range means this trio can freeze out targets from positions that were previously out of reach.

How do these changes affect the meta?
The Deadpool nerfs are the most impactful on the competitive side. His self-sustain during Ban Hammer was a major reason he dominated Vanguard matchups, and halving that healing while also reducing his base damage makes him considerably easier to punish. Emma Frost benefits directly from this shift, since her buffs push her toward being a more reliable frontline option.
The Mantis nerf changes team composition math in ranked. Losing 4% damage amplification across the board is noticeable in burst windows, and while the movement speed buff has real value for positioning and kiting, it doesn't translate into the same kill potential. Teams may look harder at Rocket Raccoon as a Strategist pick after his triple buff this season.
For Duelists, Iron Fist and Moon Knight both get tools that reward aggressive play. The Spider-Man ultimate damage increase is small but compounds with other buffs he's received across recent patches.
