ArenaX Labs, the studio behind AI Arena, has launched two new platforms: ARC, an AI game infrastructure for player-AI collaboration, and SAI, a gamified research environment for AI problem-solving. These tools represent a major step forward in how games integrate artificial intelligence and how researchers approach AI development.

Here's what you need to know about ARC's player-AI infrastructure, SAI's competitive research framework, and how these platforms are reshaping both gaming and artificial intelligence work.

AI trained avatars

ARC gives developers a white-label SDK that lets human players collaborate directly with AI entities. The platform tackles cheating by introducing AI-trained avatars that compete alongside humans, maintaining competitive integrity without traditional anti-cheat systems.

Wei Xie, co-founder and COO of ArenaX, explains how the training works:

"ARC allows players to train an AI via demonstration...you're demonstrating actions, and your AI is learning via imitation. The outcome is a high-fidelity version of you as a human. That's important in the context of competitive games to preserve competitive integrity."

Monetization for creators

ARC lets creators monetize their AI-trained avatars across multiple competitions. Train an avatar once, enter it in different tournaments, and earn from its performance. The system creates new revenue streams for players who invest time in training effective AI.

SAI complements ARC by turning artificial general intelligence (AGI) research into competitive challenges. The platform gamifies AI problem-solving, giving researchers practical applications within game frameworks. Brandon da Silva, CEO of ArenaX, describes the approach:

"We're trying to come up with a structured approach to creating a lot of these different problems — turning them into some form of game and having researchers basically compete. The reason we're doing it this way is that there's a lot more stimulus from watching what your agent does… As we post a lot more of these challenging problems that typically aren't gamified, we hope to get a lot more people into doing this research."

More about ArenaX Labs

ArenaX Labs recently raised $6 million to expand development of AI Arena, a PvP platform fighter that combines gaming, AI education, and NFTs.

Brandon Da Silva, Dylan Pereira, and Wei Xie founded the company in 2018, initially focusing on indie games. After discovering NFTs in 2020, they realized AI could be wrapped in NFTs, leading to AI Arena's creation. The studio's mission is teaching people about artificial intelligence and inspiring them to become AI developers.

More about AI Arena

AI Arena mixes platform fighter mechanics (think Super Smash Bros.) with AI training. You buy, train, and battle AI-enabled NFT characters in PvP matches. Climb the global leaderboard by training better AI, earning rewards in the native token Neurons ($NRN).

The game uses imitation learning. AI characters watch and copy human actions. Check your AI's abilities through the "AI Inspector" and train them strategically to fix weaknesses. The autonomous AI battles create engaging video content as players watch their trained avatars compete.

Jelo, a player from Anambra, Nigeria, became a standout example during early beta tests. Despite zero prior AI experience, Jelo developed a unique strategy that showcased AI Arena's potential to bridge gaming, AI education, and talent recognition.

$6 million fresh funding

Co-founder Wei Xie says the goal is democratizing AI and offering an engaging way to understand the technology. AI Arena lets users train their own AI-powered characters and compete in battles where player skill at AI training determines outcomes.

Framework Ventures led the $6 million round, with participation from SevenX Ventures, FunPlus/Xterio, and Moore Strategic Ventures. Michael Anderson, co-founder of Framework Ventures, highlighted how ArenaX creates products that encourage people to interface with and learn to train AI through play.

Brandon da Silva, CEO and co-founder, emphasized ownership of one's AI and the opportunities for talented researchers to monetize their skills through AI Arena's competitive platform:

"I think democratization is at the core of what we do. What we're doing is education and delivery of a true understanding and appreciation of AI through a very engaging medium of gaming."

AI enhances gaming

The team is optimistic about artificial intelligence enhancing gameplay. Game developers are using AI to create more intriguing and captivating experiences. The challenge is maintaining diverse and unique AI voices across different players and strategies.

AI Arena is one of the first games where you can see into an AI model's "brain," understand its behavior, and coach it through demonstration. Players design, train, and battle AI-powered NFTs in a global PvP Arena competition. The game is designed as a global meta-competition.

AI Arena is also a global marketplace for AI talent. Leveraging AI and web3, the platform creates a "better, more equitable platform" for AI researchers and players worldwide. Individuals can monetize their skills and merit directly, creating a marketplace that rewards talent and hard work.

Final thoughts

These developments provide insight into the evolving landscape of blockchain gaming. From the impact of NFTs to AI integration, these trends are shaping gaming's future, promising improved user experiences, enhanced community engagement, and innovative gameplay mechanics.

As the industry evolves, balancing technological innovation with ethical considerations will be critical for sustained growth. With AI Arena, ARC, and SAI, ArenaX Labs is positioned to change both gaming and AI research, offering a glimpse into the future of interactive entertainment and technological innovation.
