Walmart has knocked Donkey Kong Country Returns HD down to $44.99 this weekend, a 25% cut from its regular $59.99 price tag. That is a solid entry point for one of Nintendo's best platformers, and the Switch 2 patch released earlier this year means you can run the whole thing in 4K if you have the newer hardware.
What you are getting for $44.99
The HD version packs 80 total levels, including the stages that were originally exclusive to the 3DS release of the game. That content never made it to the original Wii version, so this is the most complete way to play the game. The 4K upgrade via the Switch 2 patch is free, so there are no additional costs beyond the base purchase.
For anyone who has not played it, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a relentless side-scroller built around momentum, precision, and punishing-but-fair difficulty. The cooperative mode holds up well too. If you want a head start on the harder sections, the Donkey Kong Country Returns HD guide collection covers the trickiest stages in detail.
Splatoon Raiders pre-orders are already discounted
Splatoon Raiders does not launch until July 23, but both Amazon and Walmart have the physical Switch 2 copy at $49.94, saving you roughly $10 off the $59.99 MSRP before the game even ships. This is the first Splatoon game built around a dedicated single-player campaign, which makes it a different proposition from the multiplayer-first structure of Splatoon 2 and 3.
Three new amiibo figures are also releasing alongside the game: Frye, Shiver, and Big Man, each priced at $24.99 at Amazon. Pre-orders are live now if you want to lock them in.
The rest of the weekend's standout deals
Beyond the Nintendo titles, a few other deals are worth flagging:
- Tokyo Ghoul Complete Box Set (Vols. 1-14): Down to $77.74 at Amazon from $184.99, a 58% discount. All 14 volumes of Sui Ishida's manga series plus an exclusive double-sided poster. That works out to under $6 per volume.
- LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 Set: $79.99 at Amazon, down from $99.99. The 1050-piece set includes Darth Malak and R2-D2 minifigures, and R2-D2's head rotates 360 degrees with a detachable third leg.
- Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair 4K Blu-ray: Pre-orders at $39.99, saving $10 off MSRP. The supercut runs both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 together at four and a half hours. Ships in July.
- PowerColor Reaper Radeon RX 9070 XT (16GB GDDR6): $689.99 at Amazon. Still slightly above MSRP given current GPU market conditions, but one of the better prices available on this card right now.
- Apple AirPods Pro 3: $189 at Amazon, down from $249. The third generation adds a built-in heart rate sensor and redesigned eartips with improved noise cancellation over the previous model.
The DK Returns HD deal at Walmart and the Splatoon Raiders pre-order discount are the gaming highlights here, but the Tokyo Ghoul box set discount is genuinely hard to beat for manga fans.
