The Blood of Dawnwalker won't have a 60 FPS performance mode on consoles. That's confirmed directly from Rebel Wolves via a new Console Footage video posted to the official Dawnwalker YouTube channel, and it applies across the board: PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X/S.
What the two graphics modes actually give you
Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X get the same two options. Quality mode runs at Dynamic 4K with a 30 FPS cap. Balanced mode also targets Dynamic 4K but pushes the frame rate up to 40 FPS. That's the ceiling. There's no third mode, no performance option, and no 60 FPS anywhere in the picture.
The Xbox Series S details weren't included in the video, so those specs remain unconfirmed for now.
Here's where it stings a little more for PS5 Pro owners: the upgraded hardware doesn't unlock anything new in terms of frame rate. The Pro gets the same Quality (30 FPS) and Balanced (40 FPS) modes as the base PS5. The only difference is "enhanced visual quality" in both modes, which is a fairly modest return on the Pro's premium price tag.
The community reaction is exactly what you'd expect
The comments on the Console Footage video filled up fast with players asking for a lower-resolution 60 FPS option. The ask makes sense. A lot of console players would trade visual fidelity for smoother gameplay in an action RPG where combat responsiveness matters. 40 FPS is better than 30, and on a 120Hz display it's a legitimate improvement over a straight 30 FPS lock, but it's still a long way from the 60 FPS standard players have come to expect from this generation.
Rebel Wolves hasn't commented publicly on whether a performance mode could come post-launch. The game is releasing on September 3, 2026, which leaves very little runway for a day-one patch to change this.
Ten days out and the picture is getting clearer
With launch less than two weeks away, the technical details are crystallizing quickly. For players who've been tracking the game closely, the preload window opens September 1 across platforms. If you want to check exact file sizes before committing your storage space, the Blood of Dawnwalker preload guide has the full breakdown for PS5, Xbox, and PC.
The key here is managing expectations before day one. Console players are getting a good-looking game that runs at 40 FPS in its best mode. PC players will have more flexibility with frame rate targets, which may shift where some people choose to play. For anyone still weighing their options ahead of launch, the full Blood of Dawnwalker guides collection covers everything from release times to playtime estimates to get you ready.
