Chapter 7 Season 4 is building its story the old-fashioned way: scatter collectibles across the map, drop vague hints about what's coming, and let players piece it together one audio log at a time. Fortnite has been releasing these logs in batches throughout the season, and as of this week, five are live and waiting to be found.

The key here is that not all of these logs come with map pins. Some do, some don't, and the ones without markers are easy to walk straight past if you don't know what you're looking for. The telltale sign is a diamond with an exclamation point appearing on your screen when you get close enough.

The first three logs dropped in late August

The opening batch of three audio logs went live on August 20, and they're spread across fairly distinct areas of the map.

The first is tucked inside a cave just southwest of the override console near Latte Landing. Head south from the console and look for the cave entrance to the west of the large cable coming out of the ground. There's also a road to the north or east that leads into the mountain, with a zipline that takes you up into the cave.

The second sits on top of a snowy mountain north of Reality's Reign, right beside a tree and near some large ice formations. Hard to miss once you're up there, but getting elevation in that area takes a moment.

The third is on top of the large rock formation in the northeast corner of Green Hill Zone. This one is partially hidden by grass, so watch for that exclamation point indicator rather than trying to spot the log itself.

Two more logs arrived this week

The second batch dropped on September 3, adding two more logs to the hunt. Both are in the southern half of the map, clustered near Heatwave Harbor.

The first is just north of the Sandy Buttes Hotel, which sits in the middle of the left side of Heatwave Harbor. Jump the tall hedge fence and the log is right beside the building.

The second is west of a red barn sitting directly between Stone Sanctum, Green Hill Zone, and Heatwave Harbor. Follow the road northwest out of Heatwave Harbor and you'll run into it. The log is next to the large tree outside the barn, not inside.

What the logs are actually for

These aren't just collectibles for the sake of it. Audio logs are story quest items that feed into the larger Chapter 7 Season 4 narrative, and each one unlocks a piece of context about what's unfolding on the island. Epic has been using this format across recent seasons to drip-feed lore between major story events, and if you've been following the Chapter 7 Season 3 audio log guide or the Override story audio logs, you'll know the pattern by now: more batches are coming as the season progresses.

With five logs confirmed so far and the season still running, expect at least one more wave before things wrap up. Keep an eye on the map for new pins, and if no pins appear, come back here. The Fortnite guides hub will have updated locations as each new batch drops.
