Kingdom Hearts D23 Deep Dive Details Revealed

The Kingdom Hearts fan community has been sitting on its hands since that teaser trailer dropped earlier this year, and Disney's D23 event is shaping up to be the next big moment. A social media post confirmed the Kingdom Hearts Deep Dive panel will stream live on August 15 at 4:30 PM PT, broadcast through The Game Awards, and promises a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the games.

A panel stacked with the right names

Here's the thing: the lineup alone tells you this isn't a routine anniversary segment. Tai Yasue from Square Enix is on the panel alongside Nana Gadd from Disney & Pixar Games. That's the creative and production side covered. Then you've got Haley Joel Osment (the voice of Sora), David Gallagher (the voice of Riku), and Renee Johnson, who handles Disney character voices across the series.

Five major names in one panel, with the franchise's lead developer present. That's not a setup for a retrospective montage.

Kingdom Hearts 4 was officially announced back in April 2022 and still has no confirmed release date. Fans have been waiting for any concrete update, and this panel is the most credible opportunity for one to surface since that initial announcement.

What's already in motion for the franchise

The D23 panel isn't happening in isolation. A Kingdom Hearts Collection containing all three mainline games, including Kingdom Hearts II, is scheduled to release in October for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The collection hasn't been given a specific date yet, and D23 would be a natural place to lock that in.

There's also the Fortnite angle. Kingdom Hearts is widely expected to appear in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4, which launches next week. Leaks have already surfaced assets tied to the collab, with the actual content expected in a mid-season update. Whether D23 officially confirms that crossover or leaves it to Fortnite's own reveal cycle remains to be seen.

Before vs. after: what the franchise looked like going into D23

Going into this event, the Kingdom Hearts side of things has been quiet for years. The last major release was Kingdom Hearts III back in 2019, with its Re Mind DLC following in early 2020. Since then, fans have had the 2022 Kingdom Hearts 4 announcement trailer, a brief teaser earlier this year, and not much else in terms of hard information.

That's a long stretch of silence for one of Square Enix's most recognizable franchises. The D23 Deep Dive represents a genuine shift in that pattern, with the broadcast platform (The Game Awards) and the panel composition both signaling that this is meant to reach a wide audience, not just the existing fanbase.

What comes out of August 15 could reframe the next several months of Kingdom Hearts news entirely. If you want to get caught up on the series before then, the Kingdom Hearts II guides at GAMES.GG are a solid place to start, and the broader gaming guides hub has you covered for the rest of your backlog in the meantime.
