Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Console and Controller Revealed

If you were waiting for a reason to finally grab a new PS5, Insomniac Games and Sony just handed you one. A Marvel's Wolverine limited edition hardware lineup has been officially announced, and it's exactly the yellow-and-black, claw-marked aesthetic you'd expect from Logan getting his own console treatment.

The full lineup drops August 19 at 10 AM local time globally, with physical release alongside the game on September 15. Here's the thing: preorders for the hardware aren't just for people picking up a new console. The console covers and controllers are available separately, so existing PS5 owners aren't left out.

What the Battle Yellow design actually looks like

The PS5 Digital Edition gets the full treatment. Wolverine's iconic yellow and black color scheme runs across the entire console, with comic-style artwork of Logan on the upper half. Claw marks slash across both the black and yellow sections of the body, and the trailer hints that the scratch marks actually reveal the PS5's internal fan behind a glass panel underneath. It's a small detail, but it's the kind of thing that makes collectors genuinely happy.

The DualSense Wireless Controller follows the same design language. Black and yellow body, yellow joysticks, yellow PS button, black face buttons with yellow outlines on the directional and shaped buttons. A claw mark runs across the controller in yellow, mirroring the black version on the console itself. There are scratch marks on the controller too, keeping the aesthetic consistent without feeling like an afterthought.

The Adamantium variant is worth knowing about

Beyond the Battle Yellow line, Sony also revealed a Marvel's Wolverine Adamantium Limited Edition. Same design, but finished in a premium metallic look instead of the yellow and black. There's a matching DualSense controller for this variant too.

The Adamantium finish is console covers and controller only, no full PS5 bundle in that colorway. If you already own a PS5 Slim (Digital or Disc Drive) or a PS5 Pro, both the Battle Yellow and Adamantium covers are compatible with your hardware.

tip
The console covers are compatible with PS5 Slim Digital, PS5 Slim with Disc Drive, and PS5 Pro. The standard PS5 Digital Edition is the only model getting a full bundle.

Full pricing breakdown

Here's every SKU and what it'll cost you:

The full bundle at $649.99 is standard pricing for a PS5 Digital Edition bundle with a game included. The controller at $84.99 sits right in line with other limited edition DualSense controllers Sony has released for the Spider-Man games.

The bigger picture for Insomniac's Marvel run

Sony has done this before. The Spider-Man 2 launch came with its own limited edition PS5 hardware, and before that, Miles Morales got the same treatment. Wolverine following that same pattern confirms Insomniac's Marvel titles are now a genuine hardware event, not just a software release.

If you're curious about what you're actually buying the hardware for, the game itself is a linear action title from Insomniac. You can read more about the structure and what to expect in our guide on whether Marvel's Wolverine is an open world game. Short version: it's not open world, which might actually be a good thing given how focused Insomniac's best work tends to be.

Wolverine has been showing up everywhere lately too. If you want to get more time with the character before September, there's a solid Marvel Rivals Death of Wolverine case guide that walks through the current seasonal event.

The hardware goes on sale August 19. The game and physical console launch September 15. If the Battle Yellow bundle sells anything like the Spider-Man 2 hardware did, waiting too long to order is probably not the move.
