Palworld update 1.0.4 is out now, and Pocketpair has packed it with more than just a couple of bug fixes. Two new sub-missions, a meaningful rework of fishing difficulty, smarter Pal behavior in combat, and a handful of production quality-of-life changes make this one worth paying attention to.
Two new sub-missions and where to find them
The patch drops 2 new sub-missions into the world. The first comes from an NPC stationed at Fisherman's Point, and the second is a direct follow-up to that initial quest. They're not standalone additions thrown in at random; the chain structure suggests Pocketpair is building out the NPC quest ecosystem that arrived with 1.0 rather than letting it sit static.
For players who have already cleared the main story content and are hunting reasons to stay out in the world, these side chains are exactly the kind of low-friction content that extends a session without demanding hours of commitment.
What changed for fishing
Fishing has been a friction point for a portion of the playerbase, and 1.0.4 addresses it directly. The baseline difficulty for casting in bodies of water around the World Tree and in Sunreach has been adjusted downward. Rewards tied to every bait type have also been rebalanced.
The most interesting change is the introduction of a sliding scale for fish behavior during minigames. Fish responsiveness during the catch sequence now adjusts based on difficulty settings rather than being a fixed, one-size challenge. That flexibility matters, especially for players who found the previous system punishing without offering a clear path to improvement.
Pals fight smarter now
Combat AI for both Pals and base Pals has been updated. The key change: they now prioritize moves that deal the most damage rather than cycling through abilities without much logic. For players managing large skirmishes without wanting to micromanage every Pal action, this is a genuine improvement.
Mission-critical Pals and NPCs also no longer fall asleep mid-objective. It sounds like an edge case, but anyone who has had a key NPC go idle at a bad moment knows how much that kind of bug can derail a session.
Production facility gets a sensible fix
One of the quieter but genuinely useful changes in 1.0.4 involves base production. If you cancel a crafting job at a production facility, the materials now return directly to your inventory instead of disappearing into a void. The only exception is if you're over your weight limit, in which case the overflow drops at your feet rather than being lost.
It's the kind of fix that sounds minor until you've lost a stack of resources to a misclick. Small friction removed, session flow improved.
Here's the lowdown for players keeping tabs on where Palworld sits post-1.0: the game has been on a steady cadence of incremental improvements since the full launch brought 72 new Pals, a sky island zone, and a reworked story. Each patch since has tightened specific systems rather than overhauling them, which tracks with a live game finding its post-launch rhythm. With update 1.1 already teased by Pocketpair as something the community has been requesting loudly, 1.0.4 reads more like maintenance than a statement. The bigger moves are still ahead.
