Palworld Update 1.0.4 Patch Notes: New Missions & Bug Fixes

If you logged into Palworld today, there's a fresh update waiting. Version 1.0.4 landed on September 7, 2026 across all platforms (console build 1.102.642), and it's the first post-launch patch to actually add new content rather than just tweak numbers. Two new sub-missions, a meaningful pass on Base Pal combat AI, a fishing rework, and a wall of bug fixes that addresses some of the loudest community complaints since 1.0 launched.

Here's everything that changed and why it matters.

Two new sub-missions tied to the Terraria crossover

The headlining additions are a pair of chained sub-missions: Beyond Dimensions and From the Far Side of the Moon. They're clearly designed to funnel players into the Terraria crossover content more naturally.

Beyond Dimensions starts at an NPC at Fisherman's Point in Mount Obsidian, the volcanic region in the northwest of Palpagos. The NPC, a man standing near a slime, points you toward a dungeon full of strange creatures. Complete that quest and From the Far Side of the Moon unlocks, which leads to the Moon Lord raid boss fight.

A couple of things to know before you head out there. Mount Obsidian is a high-level zone, so bring Heat-Resistant armor and an Ice-type Pal. Also, fresh sub-missions are genuinely good XP right now because 1.0's mission-reward pass was generous, and these haven't been min-maxed by the community yet.

Base Pal AI got a real upgrade

This is the change most players will actually feel day-to-day. Pocketpair adjusted summoned Pals and Base Pals to prioritize skills expected to deal higher damage. In plain terms: your Pals will now lead with their heavy hitters instead of spamming a weak filler move while their stronger abilities sit on cooldown.

Charging-type skill behavior was also fixed. The awkward wind-up loops that could leave a Pal stuck mid-cast mid-raid are addressed. Mission target Pals and NPCs will no longer fall asleep, which quietly resolves a class of stuck quests that players have been reporting since launch.

Two smaller but useful Pal changes: Lapure's swimming speed was adjusted, and the Work Suitability level required to gather Ancient Bark dropped to Lv. 1. That last one removes a mid-game crafting bottleneck. You no longer need a high-level Gathering specialist parked just to feed your ancient workbench line.

Fishing gets its first serious tuning pass

Fishing in 1.0.4 received more attention than any previous patch. The difficulty at spots in Sunreach and the World Tree area has been rebalanced, bait rewards were adjusted so the items you receive scale by bait type, and a new "Fish Behavior During Fishing Minigames" option was added to World Settings. That last one lets you tune how aggressively fish fight the line, which is a welcome addition for players who found the late-game fishing minigame more frustrating than fun.

Fishing matters more than it looks at first glance. It feeds into the Growth Acceleration Bell loop and is part of the material-farming cycle for scarce World Tree resources. Easier fishing in those endgame areas is a real quality-of-life gain.

Item and shop changes worth knowing

The Echoing Flute can now be dropped from your inventory. If you finished the Panthalus questline and had it permanently occupying a bag slot, that's fixed. The Pal Critic NPC requirements changed in two locations: Sakurajima now wants Dogen instead of Selyne, and Sunreach now wants Faleris Aqua instead of Bastigor.

A shop math bug was also fixed where selling multiple items at once could calculate the total incorrectly. Small but annoying, and now gone.

Base building and server quality-of-life

Canceling work at a production facility now returns materials directly to your inventory instead of dropping them on the ground, unless you're over your weight limit with auto-pickup disabled. Campfires no longer set you, your summoned Pals, or your Base Pals on fire on contact. Yes, that was a thing. No, it wasn't fun.

Server admins get a new per-player building-count limit setting. Anti-grief building restrictions were also expanded: with restrictions enabled, you now can't build around the desert Field Boss Suzaku, the desert Main Mission cave, and select Sakurajima mission locations.

The bug fixes that actually change how you play

The full changelog runs past 100 individual fixes. Most are minor, but a handful directly affect progression:

  • Radiant Gem drops fixed. Wild Pals in the World Tree area were dropping mismatched or heavily-biased element gems. The community's loudest complaint was electric Radiant Gems dropping from everything. That's resolved, meaning Awakening a specific-element Pal is now much faster.
  • Passive skills repaired. The Lucky passive's defense bonus now activates. The Idiosyncratic mutation passive works correctly. Mercy Hit applies properly while riding. Grintale's mutated-egg boost now reflects actual mutated stat values. Players breeding for mutations or running Lucky Pals were quietly losing value before this patch.
  • Main Mission soft-lock fixed. If you defeated Panthalus before progressing the Main Mission, the World Tree Guardian would never appear. That was a genuine progression blocker and it's now resolved.
  • World Tree boss warning indicators that could fail to appear during certain attacks are fixed, which should cut down on cheap deaths against Zenara and Astralym.
  • Co-op fixes include joining players not landing in the host's guild correctly, and the host's mission advancing when a client entered a mission area.

What 1.0.4 doesn't change

The level cap is still 80. The Paldeck still sits at 287 Pals. No new tower bosses, no changes to capture-bonus costs (still 5 catches), no changes to condensing costs (still 48 Pals). This patch also has nothing to do with Palworld Online, the separate Garena-licensed mobile MMO announced in August 2026. That's a completely different product.

With 1.0.4 stable and Pocketpair already teasing bigger changes for the eventual 1.1 update, now is a good time to work through the new missions and take advantage of the fixed Radiant Gem drops.
