The Riftstorm alpha playtest is now live and open to all interested players on Steam until October 30th. This free demo offers a unique chance for players to explore new game updates, including exclusive rewards, skins, and characters, as they test Riftstorm's latest features.
What is Riftstorm?
Riftstorm is a co-op looter shooter that blends action RPG mechanics with roguelite gameplay in a mysterious world called the Occultical. Players take on the role of Mythic Protocol Weavers — special agents protecting the Occultical from mythic threats bleeding through from other realms. In squads of up to three, players tackle mission-based runs using a mix of skills, weapons, and in-mission upgrades. The game features multiple unique Weavers, each with distinct abilities and loadouts, and lets players customize primary and secondary weapons to fit their preferred playstyle.

New Features and Dungeon System 2.0
This playtest introduces major updates to Riftstorm, appealing to both returning players and newcomers. Two new Weavers join the roster: Rook and Thistle, bringing the total playable characters to six. Rook excels at versatile combat, deploying grenades, mines, and single-target stuns to control crowds and eliminate tough enemies. Thistle specializes in spellcasting, wielding a floating tome that unleashes powerful spells to wipe out waves of foes.
The Dungeon System has been completely overhauled in what developer Confliction Labs calls Dungeon System 2.0. Players will encounter enhanced mission variety and visual upgrades, including expanded maps, improved lighting, and diverse biomes that deepen the narrative arc. Missions now include various in-dungeon functions and actions, adding strategic layers and making runs feel more dynamic.
The playtest also debuts the Weapon Loop 0.5 crafting update. Players can now dismantle weapons to obtain Scrap, which combines with the new Dataseed system to craft fresh weapons. The randomized crafting option introduces an element of chance, letting players generate weapons with unique properties.

Exclusive Rewards and In-Game Skins
Throughout the alpha playtest, players can earn exclusive skins and rewards by completing the new mission arc. These rewards are exclusive to this playtest phase. Whether they'll eventually become NFTs or remain as in-game commemorative assets for early access participants is still unclear.
Riftstorm connects to a broader entertainment network managed by developer Confliction Labs. Through the Portal platform, players can access the Mythic Protocol — a dashboard tracking ecosystem tasks and in-game quests that award Protocol Points. These points can be redeemed for rewards across Confliction Labs' shared Occultical universe, including exclusive character skins and in-game benefits.

Final Thoughts
While Riftstorm doesn't integrate blockchain elements in this alpha demo, future versions will incorporate web3 functionalities. Player actions will be recorded on-chain, and the game will introduce "wrap/unwrap" mechanics that let items convert into NFTs. Wrapped items can be traded on the marketplace, while unwrapping destroys the NFT and restores the item in-game.
Confliction Labs says this on-chain feature will enhance player influence on the game world, allowing the Occultical universe to evolve based on user-driven actions. The Riftstorm alpha playtest on Steam runs until October 30th, giving players a solid preview of what's coming in this web3-connected looter shooter.
