Pokémon Pokopia's first Halloween event is now live, and it brings more than just decorations. The Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises event adds two brand-new entries to the Event Habitat Dex, a fresh Pokémon to befriend, and nine limited-time furnishing items you can only get by pulling off some trick-or-treat antics with your Pokémon neighbors.

Event Habitat Dex entries
What the event actually adds to your island
Pokémon Pokopia players who have rebuilt at least one Pokémon Center can jump straight in. Boot up the game and head to the Pokémon Center to find Pumpkaboo waiting with a deal: bring it pumpkin candies and it will hand over exclusive Halloween furnishings. The event runs from October 17 at 5 a.m. through November 1 at 4:59 a.m. based on your Nintendo Switch's console time, so there is a solid two-week window to collect everything.
The two new habitats are the real draw for Pokédex completionists. Habitat #8, "Give me something good to eat," requires a table (any type), a ghost smoke projector, and a candy bucket. Build it and Pumpkaboo will start spawning there. Habitat #9, "Creepy pumpkins," needs a Trevenant streetlight, a pumpkin lantern tower, and a pumpkin lantern, and that setup is what finally attracts Gourgeist to your island.
Here's the thing: the Habitat Dex descriptions and full item requirements for both habitats stay hidden until you actually build them once. So if you want a preview before committing your candies, the table below has everything laid out.
| # | Habitat name | Required items | Pokémon spawned |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | Give me something good to eat | 1 table (any), 1 ghost smoke projector, 1 candy bucket | Pumpkaboo |
| 9 | Creepy pumpkins | 1 Trevenant streetlight, 1 pumpkin lantern tower, 1 pumpkin lantern | Gourgeist |
How pumpkin candies actually work
Earning pumpkin candies is tied to the Camouflage ability, which Ditto learns from Zorua after progressing through the Bleak Beach questline. You disguise Ditto as an object, wait for a nearby Pokémon to comment on it, then drop the disguise to startle them. Each successfully scared Pokémon drops somewhere between 1 and 3 candies, and you cannot scare the same Pokémon twice.
Collecting all 20 candies needed to buy one of every item means scaring anywhere from 7 to 20 Pokémon depending on how generous the drops are. If Gourgeist is your main target, prioritize the ghost smoke projector (3 candies), the candy bucket (2 candies), the pumpkin lantern (2 candies), the pumpkin lantern tower (2 candies), and the Trevenant streetlight (2 candies). That covers both new habitats for 11 candies total, leaving room to pick up the remaining items if you want the bonus "Trick or Treat" photo frame awarded for completing the full set.
Nine new furnishings, one bonus reward
The full item list spans 9 decorations priced between 1 and 3 pumpkin candies each. The standout pieces for habitat builders are the ghost smoke projector, pumpkin lantern, pumpkin lantern tower, and Trevenant streetlight, but items like the Cofagrigus locker and the eerie statue (featuring Duskull, Dusclops, and Dusknoir) add serious atmosphere to any region. The huge table costs just 1 candy and doubles as the flexible table slot for habitat #8, making it a smart first purchase.

Creepy pumpkins habitat setup
What most players miss is that the 3D printer can copy any furnishing you already own, so if you only need one or two specific items for a habitat and already have something close, check the printer before spending extra candies.
Getting Gourgeist into your Pokédex
For players focused on filling out the full Pokédex, Gourgeist is the headline addition here. It does not appear anywhere outside of the Creepy pumpkins habitat, which means this event is the only current path to adding it. The same applies to Pumpkaboo in the context of the Event Habitat Dex specifically, even though it also shows up as the event's main NPC at the Pokémon Center.
