Stylish action RPG Stupid Never Dies gets release date, new trailer

A zombie love story set in a monster-ruled society, co-published by Sega, from the producer of Dragon's Dogma. Stupid Never Dies has been turning heads since its reveal at The Game Awards 2025, and now it finally has a concrete launch date to match the hype.

From The Game Awards reveal to an October launch

Independent studio GPTRACK50, founded by former Capcom producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Dragon's Dogma, Resident Evil 6), confirmed this week that Stupid Never Dies arrives on October 21 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. The announcement came alongside a new trailer introducing Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, a flamboyant, winged mystery character whose alignment in the story remains unclear, but whose fashion sense is unambiguous.

The key here is the pedigree behind this project. Kobayashi spent years at Capcom working on some of the most mechanically expressive action games in the genre, and Stupid Never Dies looks like that experience channeled into something genuinely strange. The combat system lets players steal abilities from enemies, including demons, vampires, werewolves, and ghosts, then layer those powers onto protagonist Davy, a shy zombie trying to resurrect a frozen human girl named Julia.

What the new trailer actually tells us about the game

The Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers reveal is more than a flashy cameo. The character's fiery, over-the-top design signals that Stupid Never Dies is leaning hard into a specific aesthetic: loud, theatrical, and unapologetically weird. Davy himself sits at the bottom of a monster-ruled social hierarchy, which gives the story a clear underdog framing that pairs well with the ability-stealing progression loop.

The body customization system is where the RPG side of things gets interesting. Davy can upgrade his undead body with what the studio describes as "wacky upgrades," and consuming enemies feeds directly into unlocking new abilities. Pro tip: that kind of layered ability acquisition tends to reward players who experiment early rather than sticking to a single build.

Sega steps in as co-publisher

Perhaps the biggest structural news alongside the release date is the co-publishing deal with Sega. GPTRACK50 confirmed the partnership, with Kobayashi calling Sega's support "invaluable" for bringing what he describes as a game with "a number of original gameplay systems" to a global audience. Sega's publishing track record with stylish action titles makes this pairing feel natural rather than surprising.

The game's soundtrack will also be available to stream on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and other major platforms starting August 4, ahead of the October launch. A first DLC, titled TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload, has also been announced, adding bonus music and visual content for players who want more of the game's distinct aesthetic.

tip
The Stupid Never Dies soundtrack drops on major streaming platforms on August 4, giving players a way to experience the game's pop-punk energy well before the October 21 release.

What this means for players watching the fall lineup

October 21 puts Stupid Never Dies right in the thick of fall release season, which is either a bold move or a calculated one given how distinctive the game looks compared to everything else shipping that month. The combination of Kobayashi's action game background and Sega's publishing muscle gives GPTRACK50 a real shot at cutting through.

For anyone who has been watching this one since The Game Awards reveal, the Stupid Never Dies guide collection will be the place to track everything as more details surface before launch.
