Pokémon Pokopia Bubbly Basin DLC Release Date Reportedly Leaked

The Bubbly Basin expansion for Pokémon Pokopia has reportedly had its release date leaked, and if the insiders are right, Switch 2 players will be diving into a brand-new underwater town as early as August 5, 2026.

Back in June, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company revealed the Bubbly Basin expansion but stopped short of giving a firm date, leaving fans with a vague "sometime in August 2026" window. That window just got a lot narrower. Multiple insiders are now pointing to August 5 as the official drop, and given how these things typically work, leaks this specific tend to trace back to marketing materials that went live ahead of schedule.

What the August 5 date means for North American players

Here's the thing: if the expansion launches on Japan UTC time, North American players could technically get access on August 4. That is a small but meaningful distinction for anyone planning to clear their schedule. Either way, the gap between now and launch is short enough that preparation matters more than speculation at this point.

The Pokémon Company has not officially confirmed August 5. Treat it as a very credible rumor until an announcement drops, which, given the proximity of the date, should come any day now.

Everything confirmed for the Bubbly Basin expansion

The DLC adds a substantial amount of content built around an entirely new underwater setting. Here is what is confirmed so far:

  • A new underwater town called Bubbly Basin to explore, develop, and customize
  • New Pokémon to meet, including Mudkip, Popplio, and Corphish
  • New furniture, decorations, and outfits for Ditto
  • Underwater grass planting, construction, and structure building
  • The ability to rebuild and reshape Bubbly Basin to your own design

One detail worth flagging: the Dive move required to reach Bubbly Basin is coming through a free update, not the paid DLC itself. You will also need to complete the "Raise the environment level!" request at Bleak Beach before the underwater gate becomes accessible. Players who have not started that quest yet should get on it now.

Before vs. after: how Bubbly Basin changes the game

Prior to this expansion, Pokopia's building and exploration loop was entirely land-based. Bubbly Basin flips that by introducing a fully underwater environment with its own construction systems and Pokémon roster. The addition of aquatic-type Pokémon like Mudkip and Popplio also fills a noticeable gap in the base game's creature variety.

What most players miss in these kinds of expansions is how much the new environment changes the pacing of the core loop. Underwater building typically introduces new material constraints and visual design challenges that make the sandbox feel fresh even for players who have already maxed out their main town.

August 5 is the date to watch. If Nintendo confirms it in the next few days, Pokopia fans will want to wrap up that Bleak Beach request fast.
