If you've ever 100% completed an Xbox game and felt like the universe owed you something more than a Gamerscore bump, good news might be on the way. A feature quietly surfacing inside the Xbox Insider program suggests Microsoft is testing a new reward tier for full completion, and it goes by the name Mythic Achievement.
What the Xbox Insider program revealed
Players enrolled in the Alpha Skip-Ahead tier of the Xbox Insider program, which is the most cutting-edge testing ring Microsoft runs, recently spotted something unexpected while browsing their achievements. Inside the Game Completion filters on the achievements page, a new option appeared: Completed/Incomplete Mythic Achievement. Enabling the filter caused only fully completed games (every achievement unlocked) to display on the page.
That's a pretty direct signal. The filter behavior maps almost exactly to how PlayStation handles its Platinum Trophy logic, where 100% completion in a game triggers a special reward that sits above all the standard trophies. Xbox has never had an equivalent, and completionists on the platform have felt that gap for years.
The long-standing gap between Xbox and PlayStation completion rewards
Here's the thing: Xbox's achievement system has always been technically solid. Gamerscore is flexible, achievement designs vary wildly from game to game, and the system supports some genuinely creative completion challenges. But there has never been a single, unified signal that says "this player finished everything." PlayStation's Platinum Trophy does exactly that, and it has built an entire subculture around it.
Players who chase Platinums on PS5 have dedicated communities, tier lists ranking games by difficulty, and guides built specifically around earning that final reward. You can check out our Grime II trophy guide or the Dead or Alive 6 Last Round trophy guide to get a sense of how much structure that single reward creates around a game's completion loop. Xbox completionists have had no comparable capstone.
Mythic Achievements, if they roll out broadly, would change that dynamic entirely.
What "Mythic" actually means for how you play
The key here is what a Mythic Achievement would do to player behavior, not just player sentiment. Right now, finishing every achievement in an Xbox game earns you the Gamerscore total and nothing else visually distinct. A Mythic tier would give completionists a visible, filterable badge of honor that shows up on their profile and achievement history.
That changes the calculus for developers too. Platinum Trophies have pushed PlayStation studios to think carefully about their full achievement sets, because players actively hunt for the reward. A Mythic Achievement system could push the same quality-of-design pressure onto Xbox game teams.
Microsoft has not published any blog post, announcement, or timeline for the feature. The filter discovery suggests it is in active internal testing, but the gap between Insider testing and a full public rollout can range from weeks to many months. What's clear is that the feature exists in some form inside Xbox's development pipeline right now.
For anyone already building out their completion history on Xbox, it's worth keeping an eye on the Insider program notes over the coming weeks.
