Overview
Notmads is an open-world action RPG from solo developer Rhomita where the central hook is simple but genuinely unusual: your home sits on the back of a living beast that travels with you across a handcrafted world. Released into Early Access on 13 May, 2026, the game combines magic combat, loot hunting, crafting, and base-building into a single loop where everything feeds back into your moving fortress.
The beast follows you as you explore, letting players split their time between pushing ahead on foot and returning to manage, upgrade, and defend their base. Towns, caves, dungeons, and camps populate the world, each offering new materials and better gear. The pace is entirely player-driven, which suits the game's blend of RPG progression and survival-adjacent crafting.

Gameplay and mechanics
The core systems in Notmads revolve around a few interconnected loops that keep the experience moving forward:

Notmads content image
- Gather resources via the Magical Beam
- Refine materials and brew potions at base stations
- Find and combine loot with tiered stats and effects
- Build magical stations and defensive towers on the beast
- Progress your mage build through gear, perks, and spell choices
Resource gathering ditches the standard tool inventory entirely. The Magical Beam replaces axes and pickaxes, and it improves over time to unlock new gathering methods. That single change keeps inventory management from feeling like a chore while still rewarding players who invest in upgrading it.

What kind of mage can you build?
Notmads does not lock players into a fixed class. The magic system supports fire, frost, lightning, arcane, and physical combat styles, and spells come in multiple tiers with distinct stats and variations. Gear and perks shape the build further, meaning two players can run completely different setups even while sharing the same beast. Mixing elements is viable, but specializing also pays off, giving the combat system enough depth to sustain longer play sessions.
Is Notmads worth playing with friends?
The co-op side of Notmads supports up to 5 players online, all sharing one beast and one moving base. Everyone builds on the same structure, explores the same world, and progresses together. That shared ownership of a single moving home creates a natural reason to coordinate, since base upgrades and defensive towers benefit the whole group. The game also supports first-person and third-person perspectives, so players can adjust to their preferred style without leaving the session.

World and setting
The world in Notmads is entirely handcrafted rather than procedurally generated, which gives Rhomita direct control over pacing and discovery. Settlements, hidden areas, and dungeon entrances are placed deliberately, rewarding players who explore thoroughly. The living beast as a traversal mechanic means the world never feels static; the base moves through it, and the environment reacts to that presence. For an Early Access title built by a small team, the scope of the open world is one of Notmads' most distinctive qualities.
