Getting to him means spotting climbable walls, following rooftop routes, and eventually traveling by boat. How do you rescue Quick Hand Zhang and start his quests?
Your first meeting with Quick Hand Zhang happens near the Trail of Cages Bell in Crimson Forest. He is trapped in a hanging cage, and the release mechanism is reached through a nearby cavern.
- Speak to Zhang in the hanging cage.
- Follow the cliffside path to the cavern and turn right into it.
- Continue through the cavern toward the exit, where you'll find the lever controlling his cage.
- Pull the lever to lower the cage, then speak to Zhang again.
The cavern also contains a Memory Flower and Blackstone Fragment. Before leaving the rescue area, open the nearby chest for the Cavalrybane accessory.

How do you reach every Quick Hand Zhang hideout?
Crimson Forest: climb above Thieves' Camp
The first hideout sits inside a cave reached by climbing a wall near the Thieves' Camp Bell. The entrance is above the camp route rather than behind its locked dungeon door.
- Start at the Thieves' Camp Bell and head west.
- Look for the climbable wall leading up toward a cave.
- Climb the wall and enter the cave.
- Follow the passage to Zhang's hideout and speak with him.
If you're approaching through the camp along the story route, the locked door is on the right. Take the left-hand path, then watch the wall on your right for the climbable section.
The locked door belongs to the Thieves' Camp Dungeon route used to reach the Ancient Crossbow treasure. Its key comes from the cellar at Cliffside Lodge, so you can find Zhang's hideout before finishing his Crimson Forest treasure collection.
Village of Lu: descend beside the red vines
Use the building covered in red vines, just north of the Well of the Three Puppets, as your main landmark. Zhang's entrance is reached by descending to the river and following a hidden cave beneath the bridge.
- Head north from the Well of the Three Puppets area.
- Find the building tangled in red vines.
- Take the ladder on the building's right side down toward the river.
- Follow the waterway beneath the bridge and enter the hidden tunnel.
- Continue through the cave, then grapple to the elevated opening leading to Zhang.

Pangzhen: cross the rooftops after Wu Xuan
Zhang's Pangzhen hideout is near Wu Xuan, the Fallen General, a mandatory boss encountered by the Backstreet Archway Bell. After the fight, the route takes you through a house, across the rooftops, and down an underground ladder.
- Defeat Wu Xuan and head north out of his arena.
- Enter the nearby house and climb its staircase to the rooftops.
- Follow the rooftop route to another building you can enter.
- Activate the Bell inside that building.
- Find the ladder beside the Bell and descend to Zhang's hideout.
You can also collect the Ink Stick in the area beyond Wu Xuan's arena. Its route goes through the northern house to the upper level, then up a smaller staircase toward another house containing its green chest.
Meigu Lake: sail east of the west dock
The Meigu Village West Dock is your reference point for the fourth hideout. Zhang is inside the northern building on the island to its east, so reaching this shop requires a boat.
- Travel to the Meigu Village West Dock area.
- Use a boat to reach the island east of the dock.
- Head toward the buildings on the island's northern side.
- Enter the northern building to find Zhang.
The Blue Blossom Compass is at Blackwater Crew Dock on the northern island. The Blight Astrolabe and Sundial of Impermanence are inside the mirror-accessed dungeon tied to Secrets at the Heart of the Lake. Find the shop during your island exploration, then finish the treasure request after opening that dungeon.
Mirage Estate: take the left staircase
The final hideout becomes accessible after entering Mirage Estate through Green Serpent House. Start at the Shaded Bamboo Path Bell and watch for the staircase branching left before the door along the main route.
- Follow the main path from the Shaded Bamboo Path Bell.
- Before passing through the door ahead, take the stairs on your left.
- Look for the large staircase with flames burning on both sides.
- Continue up the stairs and follow the passage to Zhang.
At the branching route in Mirage Estate, the right-hand direction leads toward a flooded area. The left-hand route is the one that takes you toward Zhang's hideout.
