Deep in the Valley opens a large section of the first region in Phantom Blade 0, but reaching its gate key requires a campaign unlock. You need to defeat The Hunt, collect the Hunter’s Chain Sickle, and return to Sha-Chi Tower. That makes this an optional quest to start early and finish after the chapter’s main boss. The return trip is worth making: the valley contains upgrade materials, herbs for Yu’er’s Apprentice Healer quest, and access to a route toward Crimson Manor.
What do you need to finish Deep in the Valley?
The Hunter’s Chain Sickle is the requirement that controls access to the key. This Phantom Edge weapon drops when you defeat The Hunt and works as a grappling hook. Until you have it, continue the campaign rather than searching for another route onto the tower’s highest ledge.
To start the quest, leave the Outpost and head north. Look for an NPC guarding a locked gate. He has lost the key, and this is the gate you’ll return to once you retrieve it from Sha-Chi Tower.
Plan to finish Deep in the Valleyafter defeating the chapter’s main boss. For help organizing your other early detours, use the Phantom Blade 0 beginner’s guide.
Where is the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key?
Return to the upper tower
With the Hunter’s Chain Sickle acquired, go back to the top of Sha-Chi Tower. The key is at the very top of the spire, on a ledge that requires the weapon’s grapple function to reach.
The nearby Friendly Shadow Warden helps identify the right part of the tower. Your destination is the topmost ledge, so look for the on-screen button prompt that lets you grapple higher.

Phantom Blade Zero Deep in the Valley Complete Walkthrough
Grapple up and collect the key
Once you find the prompt, finish the tower detour with these steps:
- Use the Hunter’s Chain Sickle to grapple onto the topmost ledge.
- Pick up the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key.
- Return to the locked gate north of the Outpost.
How do you open the valley gate?
Use the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key at the gate where you first encountered the NPC. The guard is gone when you return, but you can open the gate and enter the pass. This gives you access to the valley and its connected exploration areas.
What should you explore inside the valley?
Opening Deep in the Valley gives you several reasons to search the newly accessible area. Choose your next stop based on whether you want quest progress, upgrade materials, or an optional fight.
| Find or destination | What it offers | Exploration priority |
|---|---|---|
| Upgrade materials | Materials for upgrades | Collect while exploring the valley |
| Herbs | Items needed for Yu’er’s Apprentice Healer quest | Search for these if you’re advancing her quest |
| Lóng Pillar | Access to a tough boss fight | Visit when you want an optional combat challenge |
| Sha-Chi Tower furnace | A lift leading to Crimson Manor | Explore for access to another area |
Optional boss and healer quest
The Lóng Pillar, also called a dragon pillar, leads to a tough boss encounter. Before taking it on, review the Sha-Chi, parry, and Ghoststep combat guide if you need a refresher on combat.
The herbs needed for Yu’er’s Apprentice Healer quest give you a separate objective in the valley. Look for them as you collect upgrade materials, even if the optional boss isn’t your immediate priority.
Furnace route to Crimson Manor
Search the furnace area of Sha-Chi Tower for the lift leading to Crimson Manor. Opening the valley makes this another worthwhile route to investigate before moving on.
Revisit the first region when the game prompts you, since returning helps advance quests and world states. After opening Deep in the Valley, find your next objective in the Phantom Blade 0 guide collection.
