The Outlaw Warblade gives you a good reason to keep attacking when Soul needs health. In Phantom Blade 0, this early two-handed sword heals through light attacks and offers a special attack with a generous invincibility window. Getting it is straightforward: defeat Jing Ye, the Outlaw, on the mandatory Crimson Forest route. Using it takes more care, because heavy attacks put some of your health at risk. Follow the acquisition route below, then learn which attacks to try before investing heavily in upgrades.
Which early weapon should you target?
Target the Outlaw Warblade if staying alive matters more than finding the highest-damage sword. Its healing gives it a clear purpose alongside your other primary weapon, and its reach and relatively quick attacks make it approachable for a two-handed option.
Its starting stats are 247 damage and 129 guard break, but those numbers are not the main attraction. The special attack, Bloodthirst Frenzy, drains health from a valid enemy to restore Soul's HP. Its invincibility window also makes it valuable when a fight starts going badly.
The Warblade's damage becomes less competitive later in the campaign, even with upgrades. Its recovery tools remain useful, so you can eventually move it into a supporting role rather than discard it.

Phantom Blade Zero Guide: Best Early Weapon You Should Get
When can you first get the Outlaw Warblade?
You can obtain the Outlaw Warblade during Chapter 2, in the Crimson Forest, the second major region after Weeping Creek Valley. Jing Ye is a mandatory boss, so normal story progression brings you to the encounter that unlocks it.
The Warblade becomes available before White Serpent and Crimson Viper, another useful weapon earned by finishing the Crimson Forest chapter. You can therefore collect the sword first and improve its companion weapon afterward.
What prerequisites and route lead to Jing Ye?
The acquisition requirement is defeating Jing Ye, the Outlaw. Follow this progression route:
- Advance through Weeping Creek Valley and continue into the Crimson Forest.
- Follow the mandatory Crimson Forest encounters until you reach Jing Ye, the Outlaw.
- Defeat Jing Ye to unlock the Outlaw Warblade.

Phantom Blade Zero Guide: Best Early Weapon You Should Get
What should you pick up beforehand?
Collect Sanguine Twin from the weapon rack along the forest path after meeting Yu'er in Weeping Creek Valley. This gives you an early dual-wield option to pair with the Warblade once you obtain it. Fast attacks build Sha-Chi Essence, which helps you prepare the Warblade's special attack more quickly.
Meet Forge at the Weeping Creek Valley Outpost to unlock weapon upgrades. The nearby weapon rack also holds Sanguine Reach, an accessible two-handed alternative while you work toward Jing Ye.
How do you complete the required encounter?
Prepare a weapon you already understand
Upgrade your current weapon through Forge before taking on Jing Ye if its damage is falling behind. Sanguine, Soul's starting sword, is a straightforward choice with fast combos and good reach. Its level 5 perk, Chi-Infused Blade, provides a damage boost lasting 40 seconds.
Hellwalker makes some early enemies and bosses demanding. If that setting is slowing your progress toward Jing Ye, check the difficulty modes guide before deciding whether to keep investing in your current setup or change the challenge.
Defeat Jing Ye and claim the sword
Complete the mandatory Jing Ye, the Outlaw boss battle in the Crimson Forest. His defeat unlocks the Outlaw Warblade, so use your existing equipment to finish this encounter before building around the new sword.
Weapon upgrades are individual in Phantom Blade 0. Improving Sanguine for Jing Ye does not also improve the Warblade, but resetting a weapon lets you recover its upgrade resources.
How do you equip and test the Outlaw Warblade?
Assign Outlaw Warblade to one primary weapon slot and keep a dual-wield weapon in the other. Sanguine Twin works as an early companion. The Warblade is a main weapon, separate from the secondary weapons called Phantom Edges.
Learn what each attack does
The Outlaw Warblade asks you to balance health recovery against the risk of its heavy string. Start with these three actions:
| Action | PlayStation input | PC input | Effect | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light attack string | Square | Left-click | Restores HP through successful attacks against valid targets | Healing depends on the enemy being susceptible to lifesteal |
| Heavy attack string | Triangle | Right-click | Converts some of Soul's HP into recoverable damage | Getting hit causes you to lose that recoverable health |
| Special attack | L2 | Q | Bloodthirst Frenzy restores substantial HP when it connects and provides an invincibility window | Requires at least 1 Sha-Chi Essence |
Recoverable damage returns over time if Soul avoids being hit. A full heavy string creates a larger amount of it, so repeatedly finishing heavy combos can leave you exposed to a costly mistake.
Try the recovery loop
Use the following sequence to understand the Warblade's role:
- Land light attacks against living enemies to see its healing in action.
- Try a heavy string, then watch how Soul's recoverable health returns while you avoid damage.
- Switch to Sanguine Twin and attack to build Sha-Chi Essence.
- Return to the Warblade and use Bloodthirst Frenzy when you need its healing and invincibility window.
The companion weapon matters because Sha-Chi Essence builds through attacking. Fast dual-wield combos help you prepare another Warblade special without relying entirely on the sword's shorter attack strings. The Sha-Chi and weapon-switching combat guide explains the wider system behind that pairing.
Which enemies resist its healing?
Puppets, golden bodies, and phantom bodies are immune to lifesteal by default. Against those enemies, the Warblade's recovery tools need support from the Livingwood Talisman.
You can find the Livingwood Talisman in a chest near the Smuggler's Tunnel in the Village of Lu. It partially addresses lifesteal immunity, making it an important later pickup if you want the Warblade to remain a regular part of your equipment.
What alternative weapons are available nearby?
Several weapons in Weeping Creek Valley and the Crimson Forest offer useful options before or around the Warblade's unlock. Choose based on the role you need rather than replacing one sword purely because another arrives later.
| Weapon | Where to obtain it | Main reason to use it | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sanguine Twin | Weapon rack after meeting Yu'er in Weeping Creek Valley | Fast, approachable dual-wield attacks and a useful Warblade companion | Short-range combo starters |
| Sanguine Reach | Weapon rack beside Forge at the Weeping Creek Valley Outpost | Long-reaching two-handed attacks that work well against groups | Its attack buffs take more effort to maintain |
| Jagged Steel | Defeat Jagged Steel, the Frenzied Brute, in Weeping Creek Valley | Strong bleed damage against susceptible enemies | Puppets, golden bodies, and phantom bodies resist bleed by default |
| Scarlet Wraithblade | Defeat Hua, Deadly Betrothed, in Weeping Creek Valley | Red Spider Lilies slow enemies, drain Sha-Chi, and explode | Slow combo finishers demand care |
| White Serpent and Crimson Viper | Defeat Bai Chilian at the end of the Crimson Forest chapter, then receive it upon waking in the Village of Lu | Long, looping combos that build Sha-Chi Essence for the Warblade | Its blade-spinning technique drains Sha-Chi quickly |
Where is the optional Scarlet Wraithblade encounter?
Head to the Sha-Chi Tower in northern Weeping Creek Valley. In its machinery area, find the opening leading to the wooden bridge route and slide down toward the clearing. Continue to the optional Hua, Deadly Betrothed encounter to obtain Scarlet Wraithblade.
Scarlet Wraithblade suits a different job than the Warblade. Its heavy combos leave Red Spider Lilies that reduce enemy movement, continuously deplete Sha-Chi, and explode after 3 seconds. Choose it for those area effects rather than health recovery.
What should you collect after the Warblade?
White Serpent and Crimson Viper is the natural next pickup for a Warblade pairing. Finish the Crimson Forest chapter by defeating Bai Chilian, then receive the dual blades when Soul wakes in the Village of Lu. Their looping combos give you a fast way to build Sha-Chi Essence while keeping the Warblade available for recovery.
Get the Outlaw Warblade from Jing Ye first, learn its light-attack healing and heavy-attack health cost, then decide how far to upgrade it. For your next weapon or campaign objective, use the Phantom Blade 0 strategy guide collection.
