Meigu Lake is blocked off by thorny brambles in northeastern Pangzhen. The way through is Flaming Mane, a Phantom Edge you must activate through Pangzhen's main progression before you can burn the obstruction. In Phantom Blade 0, reaching the lake also means beating Soulclaimer before taking a Sha-Chi-powered boat out of Pangzhen Docks. Follow the unlock route below, then use your first island trips to repair the Illusory Pipa and open more of the lake.
How do you reach Meigu Lake?
The approach to Meigu Lake starts near the Pavilion of Knowledge, in Pangzhen's northeastern corner. Find the path blocked by brambles. If you cannot burn them yet, return to the city's main objectives to activate Flaming Mane.
Activate Flaming Mane in Pangzhen
The unlock requires a boss fight followed by an NPC visit:
- Continue Pangzhen's main objectives until you reach Lion Dance Grandmaster in the city's northwestern corner.
- Defeat Lion Dance Grandmaster.
- Check your map for the marked NPC and visit them to activate Flaming Mane's vine-burning function.
- Return to the brambles near the Pavilion of Knowledge and burn them with Flaming Mane.
Defeat Soulclaimer and reach Pangzhen Docks
Beyond the burned brambles, follow the streets and continue across the rooftops until you encounter Soulclaimer. Defeat him to open access to the docks and the adjoining cliffside area.
At Pangzhen Docks, find the Sha-Chi-powered boat. This is your transport across Meigu Lake, letting you reach island docks rather than searching for connecting paths on foot.
If Soulclaimer stops your progress, use our Sha-Chi, parry, and Ghoststep combat guide to review the combat systems before another attempt.

Phantom Blade Zero Guide: How to Reach Meigu Lake
Where should you sail first?
Your boat does not run out of fuel, so you can explore Meigu Lake without budgeting a resource for the return trip. Dock at the islands and interact with their bells to reveal more of the map as you travel.
Most islands can be explored in any order. Meigu Songhouse is a useful early stop because its boss drops the Illusory Pipa Strings. Repairing that instrument lets you remove special barriers during later visits.
| Destination | How to reach it | Main reason to visit |
|---|---|---|
| Meigu Songhouse | Sail to Songhouse Island and dock | Defeat Yan Qiansui for the Illusory Pipa Strings |
| Lower Pangzhen Sha-Chi Tower | Sail around the tower's northern side to its lower opening | Find the Primal Stone for A Severed Mindseal |
| Meigu Village West Dock | Reach the settlement by boat | Find Quick Hand Zhang's hideout and advance Quick Hand's Request |
| Frozen Lake Dock | Approach through the cove on the western side | Reach the fishing village where Old Man Gen's quest line concludes |
Collect the Songhouse flowers and Pipa strings
Before docking at Meigu Songhouse, collect all six Yan'er's Memory Flowers floating in the water around the first island. The first flower is almost straight ahead of your starting boat position. Circle the island to find the others.
At the Songhouse, you face Yan Qiansui, the Zither Maiden. Parry the blue orbs she launches to reflect them back and damage her guard. Once her guard breaks, close in and attack. Consistent projectile reflections give you the openings this fight demands.
Defeating Yan Qiansui rewards the Illusory Pipa Strings, along with Fanatic's Fragment: Attachment, which completes the Fanatic's Obsession Soul Tempering material.
Repair the Illusory Pipa before exploring farther
The Strings are one of three required components. Check that you also have the parts obtained in earlier regions:
- Illusory Pipa Head: Obtained from an optional boss in the Village of Lu during Secrets at the Heart of the Lake.
- Illusory Pipa Backplate: Found in Mandate Encampment after defeating Yubi, No. 21 Swordfighter Puppet.
- Illusory Pipa Strings: Dropped by Yan Qiansui at Meigu Songhouse.
Take all three components to Myst at Myst's Tavern in Pangzhen to repair the instrument. Return to Meigu Songhouse Dock afterward: the barrier on the left hides a Blackstone Fragment, while the barrier on the right protects the Six Paths Warrant Soul Tempering material.
For help planning further side trips and managing upgrades, use our Phantom Blade 0 beginner guide before continuing around the lake.
How do you enter the lower Sha-Chi Tower?
The Primal Stone requested by the Friendly Shadow Warden is in the tower's lower section. Exploring the ground and upper levels alone will not take you to it. Sail around the northern side of the structure and look for the lower opening.
Inside, follow this route toward the stone:
- At the first fork, the left path contains crafting materials behind an Illusory Pipa barrier. The right path continues upward.
- At the next fork, the right path holds more crafting materials, while the left continues through the tower.
- Activate the Pangzhen Sha-Chi Tower Lower Passage bell. Defeat the two enemy waves beyond it for a Blackstone Fragment.
- Leave that room through the right exit and climb the stairs to Pangzhen Sha-Chi Tower: Lower Exterior.
- Cross the bridge on the right and follow the path to the crank and Primal Stone for A Severed Mindseal.
Continue up the ladder after collecting the Primal Stone to meet the Friendly Shadow Warden again. He now identifies himself as Spectral Blade.
How do you reach the frozen part of Meigu Lake?
The frozen area sits in Meigu Lake's northwestern corner. The approach is easy to miss if you sail toward the ice from another direction. Follow the western side and look for a cove you can pass through to reach the dock beside a fishing village.
This village is where you can conclude Old Man Gen's quest line. The frozen area also contains the Four Guardians' Mirror bell, which has a separate access requirement.
The northern route continues toward Mountain of Imprisonment, and you can return for the remaining parts of Meigu Lake after completing that region. Plan your next stop and later return trips with our Phantom Blade 0 guide collection.
