Planet of Lana II's Clever Challenges ...

Planet of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf opens with a chapter that teaches you almost everything you need to know about the game's systems, from sneaking through tall grass to commanding Mui across water. The puzzles ramp up steadily, and there's one missable collectible tucked away near the end. Here's every solution in order, plus where to grab that first Secret Hologram.

How do you sneak past Anua in the opening section?

The game eases you in with basic movement: jumping, crouching, and sprinting. After a short cutscene, you meet Anua, a child NPC who accompanies you through the chapter. Your first real task is sneaking up on her without being spotted.

The trick is reading her patrol pattern. She periodically looks to the right, and each time she does, you need to dash forward to the next patch of tall grass and crouch down immediately. Hold the crouch input (L2 on PlayStation) to stay hidden whenever she glances your direction. Repeat this two or three times until you close the gap and trigger the next cutscene. Move only when she's looking away, and you won't have any trouble.

How do you solve the electric floor puzzle?

The first proper puzzle puts an electrified floor between you and a locked door. The solution is entirely vertical: look for the yellow ledges bolted to the walls and use them to climb up. Jump between the wall ledges, then perform a back jump to reach the ledge behind you, and follow that with another back jump to reach the upper level.

At the top you'll find a lever. Press the interact button to grab it, then pull it in the opposite direction to cut the current and open the door below.

After clearing the electric room, use the rope and yellow ledges to descend to a lower area with a movable platform. Grab the platform by its yellow handle and drag it left so Anua can jump on. Once she's aboard, pull it back to the right to get her across the gap, then climb up the right side to rejoin her.

How do you solve the water and door puzzle?

This section introduces swimming and the breath mechanic. There's no on-screen oxygen meter, but the screen gradually darkens as your air runs out. Surface or find an air pocket before it goes fully dark.

Dive into the water and swim right. Anua takes a pipe route above and ends up stuck behind a large door. To open it, dive back under and swim further right until you find a button on the wall. Press it to lower the door for Anua, but here's the catch: the door then sinks and blocks your return path to the surface.

The fix is to grab the small cage sitting further right on the seafloor. Carry it back to the button, position it beneath the door, then hit the button again. The cage props the door open just enough to leave a gap you can swim through. With the door held open, swim back to the surface and pass through to reunite with Anua.

How do you survive the first two monster encounters?

The creatures in Planet of Lana 2 cannot be defeated. They're repelled by light, which acts as an impassable barrier. Once you understand that, both encounters in Chapter 1 become straightforward.

First encounter: Climb up to the switch on the platform above and flip it to turn off the nearby light. The creature will immediately move left through the gap the light was blocking. The moment it crosses to the other side, flip the switch again to turn the light back on. The creature is now trapped on the left, and you can drop down the right side of the platform and leave safely.

Second encounter: This one is trickier because you need to move a platform with Anua on it past the creature. The platform has a light mount on the front, but it's not active yet.

Start by jumping onto the platform, then use the rope to swing across to where the light switch is located. Climb up and activate the switch to power on the light attached to the front of the movable platform. Then climb up to the upper beam and walk across it back to the platform. With the forward-facing light now active, simply push the platform to the right. The light keeps the creature at bay as you advance. Use the rope one more time to swing back onto the platform, then exit the area from the right.

How do you control Mui and complete the generator puzzles?

After the monster section, the game switches perspective and puts you in direct control of Mui. Movement works differently here: you position a white targeting cursor and press the action button to send Mui to that exact location. It takes a moment to adjust to the indirect control scheme, but it becomes second nature quickly.

The first generator puzzle is simple: approach the small generator and hold the action button (Triangle on PlayStation) to activate it, which opens the door ahead. In the next room, a generator sits on a platform above an electrified rope. Use Mui's ability to cut the current, then quickly move to the rope and interact with it to cut it free. The platform rolls right, and once it stops, climb on top and leap to the platform above.

The elevator room follows immediately. Press the button to raise the elevator partway, use Mui's ability on the generator above to open the door below, then press the button again to descend and pass through.

How do you progress with Lana and Mui together?

Once Mui reunites with Lana and Anua, the game opens up its core cooperative mechanic. You'll be switching between giving Mui commands and controlling Lana directly. Pay attention to the on-screen prompts that show you how to make Mui follow or stay in place.

The first co-op sequence involves a black-and-yellow floor panel. Have Mui stand on it and order them to stay. A tentacle structure rises from the panel that Lana can jump on to reach the next ledge. Mui can simply climb up independently afterward.

The next two rooms involve generators and timed doors. For the first, just have Mui activate the generator while Lana walks through. For the second, the door closes too fast for both of you to make it through together. The solution: position Lana in front of the door first, then command Mui to activate the generator from a distance. Lana passes through immediately, and Mui can jump over the door on their own.

Here's a quick reference for the co-op mechanics introduced in Chapter 1:

How do you solve the double rope puzzle?

This is the most involved puzzle in Chapter 1. The room has two ropes hanging from the ceiling, and Mui needs to cut both of them so Lana can use them to swing across.

Start by moving the movable platform to the left, positioning it close enough to the ledge above so that Mui can jump from the platform up to the higher level. Don't move it too far left or the jump becomes impossible. Once Mui is up there, have them cut the first rope.

Next, have Mui jump back onto the platform and push it to the right. When the platform is far enough across, command Mui to jump up to the second rope and cut it as well.

With both ropes free, position the platform directly between them. Lana can now swing from the first rope to the platform, then from the platform to the second rope, and finally swing across to the exit on the left side of the room.

How do you solve the light, generator, and monster puzzle?

This puzzle combines everything you've learned: light barriers, Mui's generator ability, and a lever-controlled platform. According to the puzzle's layout, a monster is pinned in place by a light when you first enter the room.

Here's the sequence:

  • Place Mui on top of the platform that holds the generator
  • Pull the lever to slide the platform closer to the monster
  • Position Lana on the yellow ledges nearby
  • Use Mui's ability to deactivate the generator, which cuts the light
  • The monster charges toward Lana
  • Climb back up to the lever and pull the platform back toward you
  • The moving platform pins the monster in place
  • Jump onto the platform and drop down on the far side of where the light was
  • The pinned monster can't follow, so you're free to continue

How do you get Mui across the water sections?

Mui refuses to touch water, so you need to build a path across each body of water using floating blocks retrieved from the seafloor.

For the first water crossing, dive in and grab the rectangular block sitting at the bottom. Picking it up automatically sends it to the surface. As long as it lands in the right position, Mui will hop onto it.

For the second crossing, swim deeper and find another block near an underwater creature. Knock it to the surface the same way, then swim up and push it closer to Mui's position. Once it's within jumping range, command Mui to cross. Drag Mui to the far side, then have them activate the generator to open the exit door.

How do you complete the elevator puzzle?

The elevator room has electrified floors, which means you can't just walk across. The sequence requires careful coordination between the power switch and Mui's position.

  • Walk forward and pull the lever to cut the power
  • Anua runs to the elevator automatically
  • Guide Mui onto the elevator and have them stay
  • Turn the power back on
  • Command Mui to press the elevator button to send it up
  • Once at the top, move Mui slightly left so they're off the elevator platform
  • Turn the power off again
  • Have Mui cut the rope at the top
  • Leave the lever and climb up to the rope yourself
  • Swing across the electrified floor using the rope and land on the elevator
  • Ride it up and head right to exit

Where is the Secret Hologram in Chapter 1?

The only collectible in Chapter 1 is a Secret Hologram hidden in a small side room near the end of the chapter, just past the crusher sequence. Don't miss it because the game moves quickly here.

After reaching the Captain's Quarters and triggering the cutscene, slide down the slope that follows. Send Mui up to the switch above to activate the two large hydraulic crushers. Sprint under both of them (you may need to slide at the end of the second one). After clearing the second crusher, instead of continuing left, head right into a small alcove. There's a chest here containing the first Secret Hologram. Open it using Mui's ability by holding Triangle.

To exit, jump onto the top of the second crusher and run across it, then leap right onto the platform. Climb the yellow ledges to finish the chapter.

For a deeper look at the mechanics introduced here, including Lana's sprint-slide and how Mui's commands scale into later chapters, the Planet of Lana II 100% walkthrough and tips guide covers the full game's systems in detail. Chapter 1 is the game's longest tutorial, and getting comfortable with the Mui command system here pays off immediately in Chapter 2, where the puzzles start layering multiple mechanics at once. Nothing in this chapter is permanently missable thanks to the chapter select feature, but grabbing the Secret Hologram on your first run saves backtracking later.
