Pokémon Pokopia Guide: How to Get Paper

Paper might seem like a humble material, but in Pokémon Pokopia it is one of the most sought-after resources for completing major quests and crafting furniture. The catch is that you cannot simply find it lying around. You need the right Pokémon, the right raw material, and a little patience. Here is everything you need to know to get your Paper supply flowing.

How Do You Make Paper in Pokémon Pokopia?

Making Paper in Pokémon Pokopia follows the same logic as producing other refined materials like Lumber or Bricks. You bring a raw resource to a Pokémon with a specific specialty, and that Pokémon processes it into something more useful. In this case, the raw resource is Wastepaper, and the specialty you need is Recycle.

The process is straightforward once everything is in place:

  1. Recruit a Pokémon with the Recycle Specialty to your island.
  2. Collect Wastepaper from Sparkling Skylands or a Dream Island.
  3. Hand the Wastepaper to your Recycle Pokémon and let them process it.
  4. Come back after some time to collect your finished Paper.

Which Pokémon Have the Recycle Specialty?

The Recycle Specialty is not especially common, but you will encounter your first Recycle Pokémon earlier than you might expect. Trubbish becomes available during the Bleak Beach storyline, specifically after you build the Trash Collection Site habitat. That habitat requires a Waste Bin (any type), a Sign (any type), and one set of Garbage Bags. All three items can be found near the fountain close to the Bleak Beach Pokémon Center, making this one of the easier habitats to assemble.

Here is a quick look at Pokémon confirmed to carry the Recycle Specialty:

Where to Find Wastepaper

Wastepaper is the base ingredient for Paper, and knowing where to farm it efficiently saves a lot of time.

Sparkling Skylands (Best Source)

Sparkling Skylands is the primary farming location for Wastepaper. The grey and purple trash blocks scattered across the first two islands of Sparkling Skylands drop Wastepaper when destroyed. Since this is the final required island in the main story, you will not unlock this farm until later in the game, but once you do, Wastepaper becomes easy to stockpile.

Bleak Beach (Secondary Source)

Wastepaper can occasionally appear in Bleak Beach as well, either on the ground or from breaking certain objects. The supply here is limited compared to Sparkling Skylands, so treat it as a bonus rather than a reliable farm.

Dream Island via Dragonite Doll

If you own the Dragonite Doll, you can visit the Sky Dream Island by giving the doll to Drifloon. This Dream Island contains a generous amount of Wastepaper and is worth visiting whenever you need a quick top-up outside of Sparkling Skylands.

What Is Paper Used For in Pokémon Pokopia?

Paper serves two main purposes: quest completion and furniture crafting.

Quest Requirements

  • Skyland Building 4F during the "Rebuild the Huge Building!" quest in Sparkling Skylands.
  • Challenge 3 during the Team Initiation Challenge.

Furniture and Crafting

Outside of quests, Paper is a crafting ingredient for:

  • Bookshelves
  • Books
  • Various other furniture and decorative items

How to Get Paper Early

Short answer: not really. Paper production is gated behind reaching Sparkling Skylands because that is where Wastepaper is found in meaningful quantities. You can encounter Trubbish and set up your Recycle operation at Bleak Beach, but without a steady Wastepaper supply, production will be slow.

The most efficient approach is to unlock Trubbish at Bleak Beach early so your Recycle infrastructure is ready, then immediately start farming Wastepaper the moment you arrive at Sparkling Skylands.
