The Chunk is one of the most unsettling enemies you'll face in Resident Evil Requiem. This bloated, mutated creature first ambushes you without warning, and the moment you think you've escaped it, it comes crawling back. The good news? With the right approach, you can put this thing down permanently and walk away with a reward that could save your life.
Where Does the Chunk Appear in Resident Evil Requiem?
You'll run into the Chunk at two distinct points during your time in the Rhodes Hill Care Center. The first encounter happens in the East Wing corridor connecting the Lead Researcher's Office to the Conference Room. At this stage, your only option is to run. There's no fighting back here, so focus entirely on getting away.
The second encounter is where things get serious. The Chunk returns to stalk the lower levels of the East Wing, specifically the corridors linking the Treatment Room, Blood Lab, and Waiting Room. This time, you have a choice: hide and avoid it entirely, or stand your ground and finish the fight.

The Chunk appears twice during the story. Your first meeting is always an escape sequence. Only the second encounter allows you to fight back.
How to Beat the Chunk as Grace (Step-by-Step)
Grace's method for defeating the Chunk relies entirely on patience and positioning. Brute-forcing this fight will get you killed fast, so stealth is your best weapon here.
Step 1: Find a Safe Room
As soon as the Chunk begins patrolling, slip into one of the nearby rooms: the Treatment Room, Waiting Room, or Blood Lab all work. The Chunk cannot enter these spaces, which makes them your staging ground for every attack.
Step 2: Wait for the Right Moment
Watch through the doorway and wait for the Chunk to lumber past your position. Patience is everything here. Rushing out too early puts you directly in its path.
Step 3: Inject the Hemolytic Injector
Once the Chunk has passed, sneak out behind it and use a Hemolytic Injector. The creature will writhe and stagger, giving you a brief window to retreat back to safety before it recovers.
Step 4: Repeat Until It Goes Down
Head back into your safe room, wait for the next patrol pass, and repeat the injection process. After three successful injections, the Chunk goes down for good.

What If You're Running Low on Hemolytic Injectors?
If your supply is running thin, don't panic. While waiting in the Waiting Room, check behind the reception desk near the entrance from the East Wing Lobby. There's a drawer you can open containing Scrap crafting material. Combine that Scrap with Infected Blood and you can craft additional Hemolytic Injectors on the spot.
Before starting the Chunk fight, scout the Waiting Room for Scrap near the reception desk. Having extra crafting materials removes the pressure of managing limited injectors mid-encounter.
How to Beat the Chunk as Leon
Leon's encounter with the Chunk's twin plays out very differently. This is a direct confrontation rather than a stealth hunt, and your shotgun is the tool of choice.
Move in close, since the shotgun hits hardest at short range, and aim for the Chunk's head to maximize damage output. When the creature staggers, you'll get a prompt to strike its skull with a hatchet, dealing significant bonus damage. Keep creating distance whenever the Chunk charges or while you're reloading.
When an opening appears to move past the Chunk, take it and climb the nearby ladder to reach the upper level. As the Chunk follows below, it gets stuck in a vulnerable position. From the high ground, aim down carefully and unload. You can also land additional Requiem shots to accelerate the kill.

Grace vs. Leon: Chunk Fight Comparison
What Do You Get for Defeating the Chunk?
The rewards differ depending on which character you're playing.
- Grace's reward: The Eye Spy Charm, a passive item that gives you a chance to survive damage that would otherwise be fatal. In a survival horror game where health resources are scarce, this charm is genuinely powerful and worth the effort of the fight.
- Leon's reward:Two Grenades, useful for crowd control and dealing with the threats that follow his Chunk encounter.

Is It Worth Fighting the Chunk?
For Grace, absolutely yes. The Eye Spy Charm is one of the more impactful passive rewards in Resident Evil Requiem, and the fight itself is manageable once you understand the patrol loop. The stealth approach keeps you out of direct danger, and the Waiting Room Scrap cache ensures you won't run out of injectors if you prepare carefully.
For Leon, the fight is mandatory in his section, so there's no skipping it regardless. Focus on the ladder mechanic and the high-ground advantage to make the encounter as efficient as possible.
