Survive three days in Road to Vostok's brutal Finnish-Russian border zone and the game rewards you with something unexpectedly wholesome: a quest to rescue a lost cat. The catch is that reaching it means pushing through two of the most dangerous areas in the game. This guide walks you through every step, from preparation to placing your new companion in your shelter.
When does the Missing Cat event unlock?
The Missing Cat quest becomes available on day 4 of your run. You cannot access it earlier. The first three days are your window to prepare, and you should use every minute of them.
Before the event triggers, stock up on:
- Ammo (enemies patrol every area on the route)
- Food and water (you drain hydration and energy constantly during travel)
- Health items (the Outpost is an open area where you can take fire)
How to find the cat?
The full path runs: Village > School > Bridge > Outpost. You return via the same route, so learn it well.
From the Village, look for the Transfer sign that takes you into the School area. Once you arrive at the School, hug the cover to reach the bridge. This is a straight path but enemies can appear along it, so stay alert. Cross the bridge and you will enter the Outpost.

How do you find the cat in the Outpost?
The Outpost is the most exposed section of this entire run. It is open terrain and you can take shots from multiple directions. Move carefully.
There are three bunkers at the Outpost location:
- Bunker 1: Immediately to the right of the spawn point
- Bunker 2: To the left of the Red Farmhouse
- Bunker 3: To the right of the Red Farmhouse
The cat's exact spawn location varies. It can appear in any of the three bunkers, so you may need to check more than one. Stick to the right side of the map as you navigate the Outpost, and you will find a small hill with a bunker entrance leading underground.
Once inside, go to the room on your left. Look for a small well-like structure with an entrance hidden behind wooden planks. The black cat is inside a cardboard box at that location. Interact with the box to rescue it and store it in your inventory.
How do you return safely and keep the cat?
Once the cat is in your inventory, retrace your steps exactly: Outpost > Bridge > School > Village. Enemies can respawn on the return trip, so do not assume the route is clear just because you cleared it on the way in.
When you reach your cabin in the Village, place the box inside. Wait for a short time and the box will open on its own. From that point, the cat is yours as a permanent companion. Feed it regularly to maintain it.
