Podracing is not where STAR WARS: Galactic Racer begins. The tutorial drops you into speeder bikes, skim speeders, and landspeeders, so it is easy to assume pods are a side feature or an arcade-only thing. They are not. Podracing becomes the spine of the campaign's final stretch, and Sebulba himself serves as your mentor once you earn his respect. Getting there takes a few hours, but the path is straightforward once you know what to look for.

When does podracing actually unlock?

The short answer: partially in Act 2, fully in Act 3. The longer answer involves beating Sebulba, watching his memories, and then having Hibi build Shade a podracer from scratch.

Act 1 has zero podracing. None. The entire first act is built around other vehicle types, and the act closes with a boss race against Sebulba, who has been hired by Kestar Bool to stop the protagonist Shade from joining the Galactic League. Beat Sebulba here and Act 2 opens up.

How to unlock podracing in Act 2

Once Act 2 starts, Sebulba appears on the hub of each planet. Talking to him is what kicks off the Tales of Podracing quest line, which is where podracers first become playable.

These are flashback sequences. You play as a younger Sebulba, racing his rivals in a podracer, working through his history as a champion. To complete the quest, you need to win all the races in the Tales of Podracing using Sebulba's podracer.

The Tales of Podracing are not optional flavor content. Completing them is the trigger that introduces podracers as a vehicle class and sets up everything that follows in Act 3.

How to unlock full podracing in Act 3

Act 2 ends with Kestar Bool stealing Sebulba's podracer. This is the narrative pivot that moves podracing from Sebulba's flashbacks into Shade's present-day story.

At the start of Act 3, talk to Hibi. She agrees to become Shade's mechanic and builds them their own podracer. Sebulba, now invested in Shade's success, takes on the role of mentor.

From this point forward, every new planet in Act 3 comes with a dedicated podracing challenge. These are not optional. Fail a challenge and Sebulba will take a league token from you, so the stakes are real.

What happens at the end of the campaign?

The final act builds to a direct podracing showdown: Shade versus Kestar Bool. At this point podracing is no longer a side activity woven into the story; it becomes the main event. The entire campaign arc, from Sebulba's flashbacks to Hibi's build to Sebulba's mentorship, feeds into this finale.

Podracing is also available in the game's arcade mode independently of the campaign, but experiencing it through the story gives the vehicle class a lot more weight by the time you reach that final race.

Does podracing carry into other modes?

Yes. Arcade mode has podracing available separately from the campaign, so you can get time in a podracer outside the story structure. The campaign unlock is specifically about making podracing part of Shade's journey and giving it narrative context, not about gating the vehicle type entirely.

For players chasing every achievement, the podracing challenges in Act 3 and the Tales of Podracing quest in Act 2 will both factor into completion. Check the full trophy and achievement list to see exactly which podracing milestones are tied to trophies before you start skipping races.
