Overview
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a story-driven action RPG from developer and publisher Owlcat Games. Set in the 24th-century solar system of The Expanse, it follows a Pinkwater Security mercenary whose survival becomes entangled with a conspiracy. Third-person shooting handles the immediate threats, while character customization and decisions define the captain at the center of the story.
The game spans Windows PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Command of an advanced spacecraft expands the protagonist's responsibilities from personal survival to leading a crew of specialists. A persistent enemy pursues the captain through a system divided by political pressure and unstable alliances.
How does squad combat work?
Combat combines third-person gunplay with real-time companion orders. Two companions accompany the captain in the field, while other crew members contribute from a distance.

- Combat abilities
- Real-time squad commands
Remote specialists can disable systems or draw enemy attention. The active party therefore represents only part of the team involved in an encounter, with support assignments extending beyond the characters fighting beside the captain.

The player controls the captain while directing companions as threats develop. This splits combat responsibilities between handling the immediate firefight and coordinating specialists, making crew command part of the shooting loop.

A conspiracy across the solar system
Eros Station supplies the opening crisis. A lockdown interrupts the mercenary's shore leave, trapping the protagonist in an emergency that connects to events far beyond the asteroid. The story begins with a local fight for survival before extending into a system-wide struggle.
Exploration includes Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna. Destinations range from damaged habitats to centers of political power, presenting both the physical conditions of human settlements and the institutions involved in their conflicts.
Conversations with locals and opportunities to uncover secrets give these visits a purpose beyond combat. Character skills can influence how situations develop, placing dialogue and problem-solving alongside gunfights as ways to affect events.

Captain creation and companion relationships
Character creation includes Earther, Martian, and Belter origins, alongside options to customize the captain. The protagonist leads a specialist crew, but holding command does not automatically secure everyone's trust.
Companions have personal histories and loyalties that complicate their working relationships. Some seek redemption; others keep parts of their lives hidden. These motives give the crew concerns beyond completing the captain's next assignment.
The ship serves as the group's shared home, bringing those personalities into close quarters. Leadership decisions can strengthen or damage relationships over time. Companion relationships form a continuing part of the role-playing: the captain must keep the crew united while relying on its members in squad combat.
