Geralt and Yennefer of Vengerberg have one of the most complicated relationships in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and the game gives you every opportunity to mess it up. Two quests carry all the weight here: The King Is Dead – Long Live the King and The Last Wish. Pick the right dialogue options in both, stay loyal after, and Geralt gets his happily ever after. Miss a line or romance Triss Merigold along the way, and that ending disappears.
The Yennefer romance runs across exactly two quests, both tied to the main story. You cannot trigger either one out of order, so understanding the unlock conditions matters before anything else.
This quest becomes available after completing Destination: Skellige. You and Yennefer work through Ermion's workshop together, kill an Earth Elemental, and then poisonous gas starts flooding the room. That moment of chaos is your first window.
When Yennefer asks Geralt to think of the first thing that comes to mind, select:
After that, when the pair teleport to Yennefer's room, choose:
Those two lines are the only ones that matter in this quest. Everything else before and after them has no effect on the romance outcome. Get those right and the scene plays out.

The second quest, The Last Wish, is where the relationship gets properly locked in. To access it, you need to complete the following quests in order: Echoes of the Past, Missing Persons, Nameless, and The Calm Before the Storm.
Meet Yennefer in Larvik and select "Fine. I'll help you." to begin the quest. Follow the objectives to locate and bind the djinn. Later, Yennefer teleports both of you to a snowy mountain in Skellige. At that point, pick these three options in sequence:
Once the djinn is bound and the spell is broken, two final dialogue choices close out the romance:
After those lines, the Yennefer romance is secured.

The Witcher 3 Remastered Guide: How to Romance Yennefer
| Quest | Dialogue Choice | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| The King Is Dead | "Damn, I wanna kiss you, Yen." | Triggers intimate scene |
| The King Is Dead | "Wouldn't mind watching..." | Continues romance |
| The Last Wish | "Fine. I'll help you." | Starts the quest |
| The Last Wish | "Why do you want this power?" | Required sequence |
| The Last Wish | "I understand." | Required sequence |
| The Last Wish | "Fine. Let's do it." | Required sequence |
| The Last Wish | "I still love you, too." | Locks in romance |
| The Last Wish | "Let's not end on a kiss." | Finalizes ending |
Some characters, yes. Keira Metz can be romanced without any consequence to the Yennefer storyline. The hard line is Triss Merigold. Choosing to romance Triss will lock you out of the Yennefer ending. The game treats them as mutually exclusive for the purposes of the main story conclusion and the expansions.
If you are working through the game's side content alongside this questline, staying on top of Geralt's survival is just as important as his love life. The guide on how to heal in The Witcher 3 covers every method from Swallow potions to food buffs, which keeps you alive through the tougher quest segments leading into The Last Wish.
The Yennefer questline does not exist in isolation. Both romance quests are tied directly to the main story progression in Skellige, so you will naturally encounter them during a standard playthrough. The key is knowing which choices matter before you reach them, since there are no second chances on dialogue once a scene ends.
