Traces of Silithyst is the Silithus world buff in World of Warcraft: Forever. It gives +5% melee and spell damage for 30 minutes, and you earn it by carrying Silithyst from a geyser to your faction's extractor. Alliance cashes in at /way #1451 32.8 51.0, Horde at /way #1451 51.0 70.2, and every character walks its own load. No sharing, no summons, no mercy.

The part that matters more: players at the BlizzCon demo report that world buffs work in the open world and switch off inside raids. Blizzard has not written that into patch notes, but plan as if it has. That turns WoW Forever world buffs into a farming, questing, and ganking tool , not a parse tool.

Where to Get It: Coordinates

Everything happens in Silithus, the level 55–60 desert west of Un'Goro Crater. Nobody has shown a redesigned WoW Forever Silithus yet, so the Classic coordinates below are the working map until Blizzard moves a rock.

The WoW Forever Silithyst location for the dust itself is random. A Silithyst Geyser spawns somewhere in the open desert and despawns the moment someone loots it. The Alliance camp sits near Hive'Zora and the Horde camp near Hive'Regal, so the nearest geysers are also the ones the other faction is watching.

How to Trigger Traces of Silithyst: Step by Step

  • Pick up Scouring the Desert from Marshal Bluewall (Alliance) or Scouring the Desert from General Kirika (Horde), because your first delivery completes it.
  • Ride around the desert until you spot a Silithyst Geyser, then dismount and loot it.
  • You now carry Silithyst, which flags you for PvP, paints a red aura on you, and slows you down.
  • Walk to your camp on foot , mounting drops the load on the spot.
  • Step into your faction's Silithyst Extractor next to the Sentinel to deliver.
  • The buff lands instantly along with reputation and honor, and the hidden Silithyst Cap Reward spell adds your delivery to the faction counter.
  • Return to the quest giver once for the potions and quest reputation.

Who Stands Where in a Group Run

  • The carrier walks in the middle, because nobody can hand Silithyst to someone else.
  • Mounted escorts ride ahead and clear anything that could touch the carrier , one hit is enough to drop the load.
  • Stealth scouts never carry, because entering stealth drops Silithyst immediately.
  • Every player who wants the buff makes a personal delivery, so a group of five needs five geysers.

What Makes You Drop It

  • Mounting drops it immediately.
  • Entering stealth drops it immediately.
  • Getting attacked drops it , clear the path before you start walking.
  • Speed effects like Sprint do nothing while you carry it.
  • Dropped dust becomes a Silithyst Mound that anyone can loot, including the enemy who just hit you.

This is WoW Forever world PvP in its purest form: one slow player, one red glow, and every enemy in sight knowing exactly what to do about it.

Numbers and Rewards

Loading table...

For WoW Forever Cenarion Circle reputation, 10 per delivery is a rounding error. The real prize is Favor on every silithid you kill for the rest of the reset.

warning
Anyone planning WoW Forever honor farming should treat the honor value as unknown. Forever runs its own PvP seasons, and the two Classic sources already disagree by a factor of ten.

The 200 Race and Cenarion Favor

The faction that delivers 200 Silithyst first after each reset earns Cenarion Favor, and the loser gets to watch. The bonus only applies in Silithus and Ahn'Qiraj, so it is pointless anywhere else.

Forever has no individual realms. Normal, PvP, and Roleplay are faction mega-realms, so if the counter follows the ruleset you are racing an entire continent of players. Expect the 200 to go fast in week one and to be forgotten by week three.

important
Players who tested the BlizzCon demo report that world buffs work in the open world and do not work inside Forever raids. Blizzard has not confirmed this in patch notes. Until it does, assume Traces of Silithyst does nothing in Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, or Onyxia's Lair when they unlock on December 9, 2026, and build your WoW Forever raid buffs around class buffs and consumables.

How to Keep It: Logout Trick, Death, and Chronoboon

The WoW Forever logout trick is the old one. In Classic, buff timers stop while you are offline, so you grab Traces of Silithyst, log out somewhere safe, and log back in when the farm or gank session starts. Test it once on your own character before building a routine around it.

The Chronoboon question does not matter here. Even in Classic, the Chronoboon Displacer never stored this buff, so the logout is your only bank.

  • Dying removes it like any normal buff.
  • Right-clicking it off removes it , which happens by accident more often than anyone admits.
  • The 30-minute timer keeps running while you are online, even when you are standing in town doing nothing.
  • Raid entry reportedly suppresses it in Forever, whatever that turns out to mean mechanically.

Stacking: What It Combines With and What It Overwrites

Traces of Silithyst overwrites nothing, and nothing overwrites it. A second delivery simply refreshes the 30 minutes. It stacks with the rest of the world buff lineup because each of those uses a different aura.

That table is the entire Classic Plus world buffs argument in miniature. Stacking everything used to be the raid meta, and Forever reportedly ends it at the raid door.

Which Class Wants It Most

Raid answer first: none, going by current reports. In the open world, the value depends on how much of your day is spent dealing damage alone.

Forever Traps Nobody Warned You About

  • The beta caps at level 30, so nobody can properly test Silithyst before launch on November 4, 2026.
  • Carrying Silithyst flags you for PvP even on the Normal ruleset , Normal is not a shield.
  • Paladins and Shamans are now on both factions, so the escort that looks friendly from afar might not be.
  • Hardcore arrives later, and slow-walking through a PvP objective is an efficient way to delete a Hardcore character.
  • Links in this guide point to Wowhead's Classic database until the Forever entries appear.

Lore: Why Everyone Wants Red Dust

Silithyst is a strange red crystalline dust that surfaces in the Silithus desert, and both factions want as much of it as possible for research. The Cenarion Circle watches the silithid hives and the Qiraji behind the Scarab Wall from Cenarion Hold, while Alliance and Horde camp next to the hives and haul dust home.

Forever is set in the first year, 25 ADP, inside its own continuity , what Metzen calls a time bubble. No Wound, no giant sword, no Azerite. In this timeline Silithyst stays what it always was: a pile of red sand two armies are willing to die for.
