The Wave of the Future mission in 007 First Light hides one of its trickiest moments behind a logic puzzle tucked inside a locker. The Snoop Around challenge requires you to find and read a note that doubles as a math problem, and if you don't know where to look, you can spend a lot of time wandering the robotics plant with no idea why a door won't open. Here's exactly where the note is, how the puzzle works, and what code to enter.
Where is the math puzzle in 007 First Light?
The puzzle appears during the late-game mission set inside the Webb Industries robotics plant. Your objective is to reach the Command Center, which requires upgrading your ID Bracelet through the Security Room. One route into the Security Room runs through a locked door that needs a four-digit keypad code.

Locker room note location
Here's how to reach the note step by step:
- Once Isola leaves, you're in an office area. Head down the stairs on the left into the open office space below.
- A civilian is standing near the Office Key. Turn on the photocopier to distract her and move her away from the key.
- Pick up the Office Key, then head back upstairs and use it to unlock the Locker Room.
- Open the lockers inside. One of them contains the Note With Keypad Puzzle. Reading it triggers the Snoop Around challenge.
You don't need to actually solve the math puzzle to unlock the Snoop Around challenge. Reading the note is all that's required for the challenge itself. The solution only matters if you want to get through the locked door.
How do you solve the Note With Keypad Puzzle?
The note is addressed to someone named Carmine and reads as a sequence of four logical clues:
- Digit 1: I am one.
- Digit 2: I am two digits higher than digit 3.
- Digit 3: I am two digits higher than digit 4.
- Digit 4: I am ten digits less than digits 3 and 2 combined.
- Hint: The solution is the year of a famous battle.
Working through the logic: Digit 1 is explicitly stated as 1. From there, the chain resolves backwards once you treat Digit 4 as the anchor. Digit 3 is two higher than Digit 4, and Digit 2 is two higher than Digit 3. Digit 4 equals (Digit 3 + Digit 2) minus 10. Plugging in: if Digit 4 is 4, then Digit 3 is 6, Digit 2 is 8, and Digit 4 checks out as (6+8)−10 = 4. The hint confirms it: 1864 is the year of the Battle of Mobile Bay.

Enter 1864 at the archive keypad
The keypad code is 1-8-6-4.
What does the code unlock?
Entering 1864E into the keypad outside the Archives opens the door and gives you access to a vent inside. That vent connects directly to the Security Office, which is exactly where you need to go to upgrade your ID Bracelet and push forward into the Command Center.
This is one of several ways to navigate this section. The math puzzle route is clean and avoids most of the guards between you and the Security Room, making it a solid choice on higher difficulty settings or if you're going for a stealth run.
If you skip reading the note entirely and just enter the code from memory, the Snoop Around challenge won't trigger. You need to physically read the note in the locker to register the challenge completion.
Other challenges in this area
The locker room and the archive area contain more than just the Snoop Around challenge. This section of Wave of the Future is dense with optional objectives, and completing them on the same run saves a lot of backtracking.
If you're working through the full mission, the 007 First Light pickpocket guide covers how to lift key items from NPCs without triggering a response, which is directly relevant to how you handle the civilian near the Office Key. The distraction method using the photocopier is the cleanest approach, but there are other ways to clear the path depending on your playstyle.
The Snoop Around challenge is one of 24 challenges available in Wave of the Future. Most require specific routing decisions or interacting with optional objects, so it's worth doing a full sweep of each area before triggering major story beats.
For everything else the mission throws at you, the full 007 First Light strategy guides collection has walkthroughs, challenge solutions, and boss breakdowns covering the entire game.
