La Dama Negra is one of four legendary ships in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, and it earns its reputation fast. Sitting in the southwest corner of the map, this armored beast will tear through an underprepared Jackdaw in seconds. The fight has three distinct phases, a handful of nasty tricks, and a clear strategic answer to each of them. Here's exactly how to take it down and what you get for doing so.
What upgrades do you need before fighting La Dama Negra?
Skipping straight to this fight without upgrading the Jackdaw is a fast way to lose. La Dama Negra hits hard and takes a lot of punishment, so the ship needs to be in top shape before you engage. At minimum, fully upgrade your Armored Hull, Mortar, Broadside Cannons, and Heated Shot before sailing into this fight. Without those, you simply won't have the firepower to punch through its defenses or the health to survive long enough to finish the job.

Understanding La Dama Negra's armor and weak points
The entire fight revolves around one core mechanic: La Dama Negra's sides are heavily armored, making broadside-to-broadside exchanges almost pointless. Chipping away at its flanks will barely register. The ship's stern and deck are significantly weaker, and that's where you need to direct your fire. Every part of your strategy flows from this fact.
How to beat La Dama Negra

Stay on the stern
Phase one: opening the fight
La Dama Negra opens with three main attacks you need to understand before the fight clicks.
- Mortar spread: A scattered shotgun-style mortar volley fired around your position. The spread makes it hard to dodge cleanly, so brace against it rather than trying to outmaneuver it.
- Broadside cannon volley: Triggered whenever you're sailing side by side. No special mechanic here, but a Perfect Brace will cut the incoming damage significantly.
- Fire Barrels: When you're positioned behind La Dama Negra, it drops four Fire Barrels to punish you for chasing. Shoot them before it pulls away and you can turn the damage back on the ship itself.
At the start of the fight, fire a mortar volley as La Dama Negra charges toward you, then use the Master at Arms ram attack to close the distance quickly and land early damage. The ship will likely try to turn as you ram, so aim for the rear half. Once you're behind it, hit the stern with Heated Shot to deal heavy damage and open up weak points for the Swivel Gun.
From that point, your job is simple in concept and harder in execution: stay behind La Dama Negra. Keeping to its stern removes the broadside attack from the equation entirely and keeps you in a position to deal real damage. Mix in mortar strikes alongside your broadsides whenever possible. La Dama Negra moves slowly in this phase, so landing consistent mortar hits is straightforward.
Occasionally it will try to create distance and reposition for a broadside. When that happens, don't panic. Let it turn, then move back to the stern once it's facing you. Chasing broadside exchanges is how this fight ends badly.
Phase two: the running barrage
Once La Dama Negra drops to roughly two-thirds health, it breaks away at high speed and starts firing mortar volleys in two distinct patterns. Catching it directly isn't realistic at this point since it moves fast and holds that pace.
The timing on the second pattern is tighter, so if you're not confident threading it, use the same side-matching technique from the first pattern instead. Both work.
When La Dama Negra fires a white flare, the barrage ends and it returns to its normal attack pattern. Get back on the stern and resume your pressure.
Phase three: Heated Shot broadsides
Once La Dama Negra loses another third of its health, it runs again and repeats the mortar barrage. Survive that the same way as before. When it returns to normal behavior, the fight gets more dangerous: its broadsides now use Heated Shot, meaning any flank exposure costs significantly more health.
By this point the Master at Arms ram should be recharged. Use it again to close the gap and hit the stern for a big damage chunk. The core strategy doesn't change in this phase, but the margin for error shrinks. Aim to enter phase three with at least half your health remaining.
Keep hammering the stern with Heated Shot and mortars, brace every incoming volley, and avoid broadside exchanges entirely. La Dama Negra will go down.
