Disney Dreamlight Valley Guide: All Picture Pursuit Event Quests & Rewards

The Picture Pursuit event is brand new to Disney Dreamlight Valley, and it plays nothing like the usual event format. Every quest is a scavenger hunt built around the game's photo mode, sending you across realms and valley locations to snap pictures of hidden motifs. The event runs from July 15 to July 28, so you have a two-week window to wrap it up. You only need five of the seven quests to clear the main duty and claim the grand prize, but finishing all seven earns you a full set of photo motifs.

What do you need to start the Picture Pursuit event?

Before any quests unlock, you need seven specific villagers living in your valley. Two of them, Merlin and Mickey, are available from the very beginning of the game. The other five require more work and are tied to realm quests or specific in-game triggers.

  • Merlin – Unlocked automatically at game start.
  • Mickey – Unlocked automatically at game start.
  • Moana – Recruited from the Moana Realm by completing the quest How Far You'll Go.
  • Buzz Lightyear – Recruited from the Toy Story Realm by completing A Secret Mission in Uncharted Space.
  • Alice – Recruited from the Alice in Wonderland Realm by completing Leaving Wonderland.
  • Peter Pan – Recruited from Skull Rock in the Dazzle Beach region by completing The Music's on the Walls.
  • Cinderella – Recruited by finding her lost shoe in the valley and completing The Pumpkin and the Princess.

If you're still working through realm quests, Peter Pan and Cinderella tend to be the most time-consuming unlocks here. Get those two sorted first so no quests are blocked when they go live.

How do the Picture Pursuit quests work?

Each quest follows the same structure. Talk to the assigned character, then track down four hidden motifs in a specific location and photograph each one. The motifs are small decorative symbols placed around the area, and finding all four completes the quest and earns you that quest's corresponding photo motif reward.

All seven quests are listed below with their assigned character, target location, and the motif symbol you're hunting.

What is the event duty and how do you complete it?

There is a single event duty tied to Picture Pursuit, and it asks you to complete at least five of the seven available quests. Once you hit that threshold, the duty resolves automatically and the Pure Cinema Photo Frame unlocks for you to claim.

This means you have two quests you can skip if time is tight or if you hit a wall on a particular scavenger hunt. That said, each quest you complete also awards its own individual motif, so skipping any quest means permanently missing that motif during this event run.

The event ends on July 28. If you miss it entirely, the next run is expected in 2027, so don't leave quests sitting unfinished near the deadline.

What are all the Picture Pursuit event rewards?

Every reward in this event is tied to photo mode. Seven of the eight prizes are motifs, one per quest, and the eighth is the photo frame you earn by clearing the duty. Here's the full breakdown.

The Pure Cinema Photo Frame is the headline reward here, and it's the only item locked behind the duty rather than a single quest. If your goal is just the frame, five quests gets you there. If you want the complete motif set, all seven are required.

Tips for getting through Picture Pursuit efficiently

After working through the scavenger hunt format across multiple locations, a few things stand out as worth knowing before you start.

  • Prioritize realm-based quests early. The Moana, Toy Story, and Alice in Wonderland quests require realm travel, which adds loading time. Knock those out as soon as they unlock rather than saving them for the end of the event.
  • Check in daily. Since one quest drops per day for the first seven days, missing a login early on compresses your available time toward the deadline.
  • You only need five to finish the duty. If one quest is giving you serious trouble finding all four motifs, you can skip it and still claim the Pure Cinema Photo Frame.
  • Photo mode must actually be used. Each motif requires you to take a picture of it, not just walk past it. Open photo mode and frame the motif before moving on.

For more quests and events in the game, the Disney Dreamlight Valley guides collection covers everything from the Springtime Floating Festival puzzles to the Star Path Vault rewards. If you enjoy the scavenger hunt style of Picture Pursuit, the Toy Camera quest walkthrough covers a similar hidden-photo challenge in the Toy Story Realm that's worth tackling while you're already in there for Buzz Lightyear's motifs.
