EA Sports FC 27 dropped its biggest Archetype adjustment since launch on October 19, 2026, with EA's official Pitch Notes confirming a full Attribute Point rebalance across all 13 Archetypes in The Grounds and Clubs. The update went live on October 22 at 2:00 a.m. Pacific Time, resetting every Pro's AP allocation and repricing 87 individual attribute costs: 58 went up, 29 went down. Your level and total AP earned are untouched. You just have to spend them again under the new structure.
Here's the short answer: if you play Finisher, your core finishing stats got cheaper. If you play Boss, everything got more expensive. Every other Archetype sits somewhere in between.
Why did EA reset Archetype Attribute Points?
EA's reasoning comes directly from its October 19 Pitch Notes: certain attributes were "classified incorrectly" when Archetypes launched, which pushed their AP costs out of sync with how impactful those stats actually are in a match. The studio collected live gameplay data after the September 25 worldwide release and used it to identify the mismatches.
The clearest example is the Finisher. Before the reset, community builders flagged that Finishing itself was one of the most expensive stats to upgrade on the Finisher Archetype, which made no sense for a role designed around scoring goals. The October 22 update corrects that: Finishing, Composure, Reactions, and Volleys all got cheaper on the Finisher after the reset.
EA framed the timing as deliberate. Fixing this early in Season 1, rather than mid-season, gives the progression system a stable base for the rest of the year.
What exactly changed with the October 22 update?
Three linked changes shipped together:
- AP costs were repriced across all 13 Archetypes. EA published the direction (up or down) for each attribute but did not publish the specific AP amounts.
- Attacking Positioning was removed as a requirement for Archetype Specializations, giving players more freedom to allocate points toward stats that actually fit their playstyle.
- Every Pro's AP allocation was reset, requiring manual redistribution from the Edit Attributes screen under the new costs.
Anyone who had already created a Pro received automatic compensation: 5,000 Club Coins and a 1.75x AXP Multiplier lasting 6 matches. These are Grounds and Clubs rewards, not Ultimate Team coins.
Every Archetype AP cost change: the full breakdown
EA published directional changes only. "Increased" means that attribute now costs more AP per upgrade. "Decreased" means it costs less.
Goalkeeper Archetypes
| Archetype | AP cost increased | AP cost decreased |
|---|---|---|
| Shot Stopper | Acceleration, Short Passing, GK Positioning | GK Reflexes |
| Sweeper Keeper | Vision, Ball Control, Long Passing, GK Kicking, GK Reflexes | GK Positioning |
The two keepers effectively swapped their most important stat. Shot Stopper gets cheaper Reflexes but pays more for Positioning. Sweeper Keeper gets cheaper Positioning but pays more for Reflexes. Pick based on which stat you actually want to max.
Defender Archetypes
| Archetype | AP cost increased | AP cost decreased |
|---|---|---|
| Progressor | Composure, Long Passing, Defensive Awareness, Standing Tackle | Ball Control |
| Boss | Strength, Heading Accuracy, Sliding Tackle | None |
| Marauder | Acceleration, Balance, Interceptions, Dribbling | Stamina, Crossing |
The Boss is the only Archetype across all 13 with zero attribute costs going down. Every change is a price increase, which means a fully built Boss will cost noticeably more AP than before the reset. If you were running a Boss build expecting to max it out, plan for that.
Midfielder Archetypes
| Archetype | AP cost increased | AP cost decreased |
|---|---|---|
| Disruptor | Sprint Speed, Crossing, Sliding Tackle | Aggression, Standing Tackle |
| Recycler | Acceleration, Stamina, Aggression, Shot Power, Standing Tackle | Strength, Interceptions, Defensive Awareness |
| Maestro | Strength, Interceptions, Short Passing, Defensive Awareness, Long Shots | Agility, Reactions, Ball Control, Long Passing |
| Creator | Agility, Reactions, Composure, Ball Control, Long Passing | Dribbling, Long Shots, Curve |
The Maestro got four attributes cheaper, tied with the Finisher for the most cost reductions of any Archetype. If you play a deep playmaker role, the Maestro benefits significantly from this reset.
Attacker Archetypes
| Archetype | AP cost increased | AP cost decreased |
|---|---|---|
| Spark | Vision, Dribbling, Short Passing, Long Shots, Curve | Sprint Speed, Agility |
| Magician | Balance, Composure, Vision, Shot Power, Volleys | Acceleration, Short Passing, Curve |
| Finisher | Acceleration, Sprint Speed, Agility, Vision, Ball Control, Dribbling | Reactions, Composure, Finishing, Volleys |
| Target | Acceleration, Ball Control, Finishing, Short Passing, Curve | Jumping, Strength, Heading Accuracy |
The Finisher has the most total changes of any Archetype: 10 attributes shifted (6 up, 4 down). The swap is clear: pace and ball-carrying cost more, pure finishing stats cost less. The Finisher is now a dedicated poacher role, not a well-rounded striker.

Finisher AP costs post-reset
What happened to pace costs across Archetypes?
Pace is where most players will notice the biggest practical difference. Before the reset, community data showed roughly a 3x gap in AP cost for the same Sprint Speed rating depending on Archetype, with Finisher and Disruptor sitting at the cheap end and Creator or Maestro at the expensive end.
After the reset:
- Pace got more expensive on: Finisher (Acceleration, Sprint Speed, Agility), Target (Acceleration), Marauder (Acceleration), Recycler (Acceleration), Shot Stopper (Acceleration), Disruptor (Sprint Speed), Creator (Agility).
- Pace got cheaper on: Spark (Sprint Speed, Agility), Magician (Acceleration), Maestro (Agility).
The Finisher lost all three pace attributes to price increases. That narrows the gap between Archetypes for pace-focused builds, but since EA hasn't published the specific new AP numbers, the only way to confirm which Archetype gives you the cheapest pace for your position is to check the Edit Attributes screen in-game after the update.
Which Archetype should you pick after the reset?
These picks are based on EA's published cost directions. Confirm the actual AP numbers in-game before finalising your build.
- Poacher striker: Finisher. Finishing, Composure, Reactions, and Volleys all got cheaper. Accept the higher pace cost and play on the shoulder of the last defender.
- Pace winger or inside forward: Spark. Sprint Speed and Agility got cheaper. Vision, Dribbling, and Curve cost more, so it's a purer pace-and-run role now.
- Creative forward or number 10: Magician. Acceleration, Short Passing, and Curve got cheaper. Composure and Shot Power cost more.
- Aerial or hold-up striker: Target. Jumping, Strength, and Heading Accuracy got cheaper. Pace and touch cost more, making it a purer target role.
- Deep playmaker: Maestro. Four attributes got cheaper (Agility, Reactions, Ball Control, Long Passing), the joint-highest number of cuts alongside Finisher.
- Ball-winning midfielder: Recycler or Disruptor. Recycler gets cheaper Strength, Interceptions, and Defensive Awareness. Disruptor gets cheaper Aggression and Standing Tackle but pays more for Sprint Speed.
- Attacking full-back: Marauder. Stamina and Crossing got cheaper, but Acceleration and Dribbling cost more.
- Centre-back: Both Boss and Progressor got more expensive on core defending stats. Boss gets no cuts at all. Progressor at least gets cheaper Ball Control if you want a ball-playing defender.
- Goalkeeper: Shot Stopper for cheaper Reflexes, Sweeper Keeper for cheaper Positioning.

The Grounds
What did removing Attacking Positioning from Specializations actually change?
Specializations are late-game unlocks tied to specific attribute thresholds that let you swap your signature PlayStyle for a PlayStyle+. Before the October 22 update, Attacking Positioning was a mandatory requirement for certain Specializations, meaning you had to spend AP on it regardless of whether it suited your build.
EA removed that requirement entirely. Based on community builders, the four Specializations that previously required Attacking Positioning are Joker (Spark), Invader (Magician), Hunter (Finisher), and Runner (Target). EA hasn't confirmed whether a different attribute replaces Attacking Positioning in those unlock criteria or whether the requirement was simply dropped. Check the Specialization screen after the update before spending AP.
For players who were already funneling AP into Attacking Positioning just to unlock a Specialization, those points are now free to go elsewhere.
How to rebuild your Pro efficiently after the reset
The reset is already live as of October 22, so the rebuild is your immediate task. Here's how to approach it without wasting the compensation rewards.
Claim your compensation first. Check your inventory and objectives for the 5,000 Club Coins and the 1.75x AXP Multiplier. EA didn't specify a claim location, so look in both places.
Screenshot your old build if you haven't already. It's the only reference you have for what you were working toward before the reset.
Start with identity stats that got cheaper for your Archetype (see the tables above), but compare their new per-point cost in-game against your other options before committing. Some reductions came from the top price tier and may still be relatively expensive.
Spend to thresholds, not round numbers. PlayStyle and Specialization unlocks require specific attribute values. Hit the next unlock threshold before spreading points across other stats.
Use the 1.75x multiplier on a second Archetype. Mastery bonuses from leveling an Archetype apply across all your builds (EA's own example: Finisher Level 10 adds +1 Finishing and +1 Composure to every Archetype). Boosting a lower-level Archetype during those 6 matches gets you closer to a Mastery milestone faster.
Resetting individual attributes costs nothing. EA's Help documentation confirms you can reduce attributes incrementally and reallocate freely, with no Grounds Coins required. There's no penalty for experimenting with your new spread.

Common mistakes to avoid during the rebuild
- Spending AP before checking new costs in-game. The tables above show direction only. The actual per-point cost determines which stats are genuinely efficient to max first.
- Ignoring the AXP Multiplier. Six boosted matches on a low-level Archetype can push you to a Mastery milestone that permanently improves every build you run.
- Assuming Attacking Positioning is still needed for Specializations. It isn't, as of October 22. Don't sink AP into it for unlock purposes.
- Rebuilding your main Archetype first with the multiplier active. Your main Archetype is likely already at a higher level. The multiplier is most valuable where you have the most levels left to gain.
FAQ
Does the AP reset cost anything? No. Resetting and reallocating Attribute Points is free. EA's Help documentation confirms no Grounds Coins or reset items are required.
Do Masteries reset with the AP allocation? EA's update only addresses levels and AP. Masteries unlock at level milestones, and levels are unchanged, so there's no indication Masteries were affected. EA didn't address this directly.
Are the 5,000 Club Coins Ultimate Team coins? No. They're Grounds and Clubs currency. The update has no effect on your Ultimate Team economy.
Will EA publish the actual new AP numbers? As of the October 22 update, EA has only published directional changes (up or down), not specific values. Check the Edit Attributes screen in-game for the current costs.
Can the Archetype changes be tuned again? EA said it's collecting feedback through the official EA Sports FC Discord. Given that this is already the second Archetype adjustment since launch, further tuning in a future patch is possible if specific costs generate pushback.
