Campfires are one of the most underrated tools in Fortnite. They sit at fixed spots across the Shattered Coast island every single match, restore health without burning through your medkit supply, and even grant Sprite XP on top of that. There are 49 of them in Chapter 7 Season 3, and knowing where they cluster can completely change how you plan your drop and rotation.
How do campfires work in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3?
Step into a campfire's radius and it starts healing you automatically. No button prompt, no item slot needed. The flames burn for a limited time, so you get your HP back and move on. What you actually recover depends on which mode you're playing.
Beyond the HP recovery, interacting with a campfire grants XP to both your account and your active Sprite. That Sprite XP gain gets a multiplier on Mastery Mondays, so lighting fires along your route is one of the fastest ways to push a Sprite's level without doing anything extra.

Every campfire spawns at the same fixed location each match. The table below covers the full island breakdown so you can plan your loot route before you even drop.
Where are the best campfire clusters for rotation?
Not all 49 fires are equally useful. The ones that matter most are the dense clusters you can chain together as the storm closes in.

Golden Grove is the single richest campfire zone on the map with 5 fires inside the POI and 2 more just to the south and west. That's 7 fires within a short run of each other, making it the best drop for players who want to farm Sprite XP early and stay healthy through the mid-game without touching their inventory.
Sunken Shores comes in second with 4 fires in and around the POI, plus an extra one at the Wettest-Bones Research Facility landmark to the east. The coastal positioning also means fewer players contesting you compared to more central POIs.
The Battlewoods gives you 3 fires inside the POI and 2 more just outside to the west and north. That five-fire chain along the western side of the map is excellent for rotating toward the center when the storm starts moving.
Calamari Canyon and its eastern unnamed area combine for 5 fires in a relatively compact stretch, making it a strong mid-map option if your rotation takes you through that corridor.
When should you actually use a campfire?
The healing is free and the XP is a bonus, but campfires aren't always the right call. Here's when they make sense and when they don't.
Use a campfire when:
- You survived a fight but burned through your medkits
- You took storm damage and need a quick top-up before the next circle
- You're in a quiet area with cover and can afford 5-10 seconds stationary
- You want to stack Sprite XP, especially on Mastery Mondays
Skip the campfire when:
- You're in a contested POI with enemies nearby
- The fire is in an exposed open area with no natural cover
- You're in the final circles where every second of movement matters
The central map fires near popular POIs carry the most risk. The northern mountain and forest areas tend to be quieter at the start of a match, while the southern and eastern coastline fires near beaches and port areas are solid mid-game options when the storm pushes players inward.

What else should you know about the Chapter 7 Season 3 map?
Campfires don't exist in isolation. Knowing the full map layout helps you chain fires into your rotation efficiently. The Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 map guide covering all new locations gives useful context on how the island evolved into its current form across the two seasons.
If you're planning routes around campfires, you'll also want to know where NPCs are sitting. Some of them are close enough to campfire clusters that you can hire help and heal in the same loop. The Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 NPC locations guide maps out all 11 NPCs, their exact spots, and what services each one offers.
