The Honey Sprite is one of the more distinctive companions to land in Fortnite during Fortnitemares 2026. Arriving with update 42.40 on October 15, it was designed by community member Conejito_sam as one of five winners from Epic's "Design A Sprite" contest. Visually, it's a honey blob with a dipper sticking out of its head and honeycombs across its body. Mechanically, it does something no other Sprite in the game currently does: it sends a swarm of bees at whoever you shoot. Here's everything you need to find it, level it up, and decide whether it's worth keeping equipped.
How to get the Honey Sprite in Fortnite
The Honey Sprite drops at Epic rarity from three main sources: Pumpkin chests, Cheat Codes, and standard chests. Each method has a different efficiency level, so knowing which to prioritize saves a lot of time.
Smash Pumpkin chests first
Pumpkin chests are the fastest and most reliable route. They're scattered across the map during Fortnitemares and are guaranteed to drop one of the new Chapter 7 Season 4 Sprites. If the Honey Sprite is what you're after specifically, volume is your friend: hit as many Pumpkin chests as possible per match.
The Nightmare Neighborhood POI is the single best starting point. It has a high density of Pumpkin chests and also houses Freddy Krueger as a roaming boss, which gives you a secondary drop chance if you're willing to fight him. Beyond that, POIs with heavy greenery tend to yield good results: Golden Grove, Cluster Coast, Shaken Sanctuary, Heatwave Harbor, Stone Sanctum, and Green Hill Zone are all worth routing through.

Cheat Codes and Locator Gizmos
Trick or Treat Cheat Codes are another viable source. They appear throughout the map and can reward Sprites, though the drop rates are lower than Pumpkin chests. One thing to watch for: some Cheat Codes during Fortnitemares are Corrupted, meaning they glitch when you try to enter them. Fix this by hitting the code once with your Pickaxe before inputting it again.
If you've already collected most Sprites and the Honey Sprite is the last one you need, the Lucky Locator Gizmo is the cleanest solution. Activate it and it points you toward a buried Sprite chest containing a Sprite you haven't found yet. The Cheat Code Locator Gizmo works differently: it highlights a small area and reveals a high-rarity Cheat Code, which has elevated odds of dropping recently added or rare Sprites.
For a deeper look at tracking down buried Sprite chests with pinpoint accuracy, the Sprite Locator guide covers everything you need to know about the Gizmo.
Trading and elimination drops
If chests and Gizmos aren't producing results, trading with other players is a legitimate fallback. Offer Sprites your friends still need in exchange for the Honey Sprite. The Deer Sprite and newly added Spooky Dash Sprite are good trade bait if you have duplicates.
Eliminations also have a small drop chance. Defeating bosses on the Chapter 7 Season 4 map gives you a minor chance of receiving a Sprite. Equipping a Bounty Hunter Sprite while eliminating players adds another small chance that the eliminated player drops a Sprite on top of anything they were already carrying.
For comparison, the Vampire Sprite guide and Deer Sprite guide cover similar farming methods if you're working on completing your full Fortnitemares collection.
What does the Honey Sprite do?
The Honey Sprite spawns a swarm of bees at the hit location whenever you deal damage with a ranged weapon. Assault rifles, sniper rifles, and any other ranged weapon can trigger it. The bee swarm deals 5 damage per second to anyone standing in it.
Here's the honest assessment: the ability is situationally useful at best. The bee swarm is small enough that an enemy barely has to reposition to avoid it entirely. The more significant catch is that the bees can also hit the player who has the Honey Sprite equipped, so standing near your own swarm is a bad idea. There's no increase to the swarm's size or damage as you level up, only the trigger chance improves.
That said, forcing an enemy out of cover without shooting directly at them has real tactical value in the right situations. Think of it as a soft area-denial tool rather than a damage dealer.

Honey Sprite level-up stats
| Level | Chance to spawn bees per hit |
|---|---|
| 1 | 5% |
| 2 | 6% |
| 3 | 7% |
| 4 | 8% |
| 5 | 10% |
The drop chance for the Honey Sprite sits somewhere between 2.637% and 4.396% depending on rarity tier, though exact confirmed figures aren't available yet.
How to level up the Honey Sprite
Most variants level up through standard activities: opening containers, smashing Pumpkins, searching chests, eliminating opponents, and using items. The Bounty Hunter Honey Sprite is the exception. It only gains XP from eliminations, so equipping it while passively looting won't advance it at all.
All 6 Honey Sprite variants explained
There are six variants to collect as of update 42.40. All of them keep the base bee-spawning ability and add a secondary perk on top.
| Variant | Secondary effect |
|---|---|
| Honey Sprite | Base ability only |
| Gold Honey Sprite | 3x bonus XP from eliminations |
| Cheat Master Honey Sprite | All Cheat Code inputs are automatically correct |
| Loot Hacker Honey Sprite | Increased chance of spawning items from Loot Hacks |
| Bounty Hunter Honey Sprite | Chance to find Sprites when eliminating opponents |
| Trick or Treat Honey Sprite | Chance to find candy when opening containers |
The Cheat Master Honey Sprite is the hardest to find. It's also arguably the most useful if you're actively farming Cheat Codes, since it removes the input error entirely. The Trick or Treat Honey Sprite is the most accessible right now given it was added recently and has higher availability.
The Bounty Hunter Honey Sprite is worth flagging separately: it's the only variant in the game that can cause eliminated players to drop a Sprite as loot, making it genuinely useful for collection runs. Just remember it only levels through eliminations.
Is the Honey Sprite worth using?
For most players, the Honey Sprite sits in the middle of the pack. The 5 damage-per-second bee swarm isn't going to carry a fight, and the small swarm radius means enemies rarely take more than one or two ticks before stepping out. The Cheat Master variant is genuinely strong if you're running a Cheat Code-heavy strategy. The Gold variant is solid for XP farming runs.
If you're comparing it to other Sprites in the current meta, the Pond Sprite's Super Jump ability offers more consistent mobility value, while the Deer Sprite's melee damage boost is more reliable in close-range situations. The Honey Sprite's niche is ranged harassment, and it fills that role adequately without excelling at it.
