To check the number of chests opened in Fortnite, navigate to the Quests tab and select Treasure Hunt from the list to view your current progress on that activity.

In Treasure Hunters, that total is tied to chest-opening quests that award bonus XP. It gives you a progress check while working through the Battle Pass, especially if you're also chasing the Pirate Shop Access Token. Those two goals work differently: chest milestones reward progress, while the token drops randomly. Your chest count tells you how many openings you've managed, not how close you are to a guaranteed token.

How do you find your chest-opening total?

You can view the Treasure Hunters chest counter inside Fortnite. Start on the main screen with the Epic Games account you use to play, then follow these steps:

  1. Open the Quests tab.
  2. Find the quest categories on the left side.
  3. Scroll down to Treasure Hunt.
  4. Select that category and read your total number of chests opened.

The menu wording matters here. The mini season is called Treasure Hunters, but the quest category you're looking for is Treasure Hunt.

This counter is useful for checking your progress across the mini season. Keep its purpose simple: use it to follow chest-opening activity and the associated quests, rather than trying to turn the number into a prediction about your next drop.

What does the chest counter tell you about rewards?

Opening chests contributes to Treasure Hunters quests, and reaching chest-opening milestones can award bonus XP. That XP helps you progress through the Treasure Hunters Battle Pass. Pirate Shop Access is a separate random reward, so completing an XP milestone doesn't guarantee the token.

For the other rewards you might find while increasing that total, the Fortnite Treasure Hunters Pirate Chest loot and rewards guide explains the wider reward pool.

Chest-opening quests give you a concrete objective while you hunt. If the token doesn't appear, the bonus XP can still move your Battle Pass forward. That's a more dependable reason to keep opening chests than expecting a particular number to trigger Pirate Shop Access.

How many chests guarantee Pirate Shop Access?

There is no fixed chest total that guarantees the Pirate Shop Access Token. Finding it depends on RNG, so a high counter doesn't mean the next opening must contain it. The token can still be missing after more than 1,000 chest openings.

Epic Games hasn't published the drop odds for Treasure Hunters chest rewards. Precise odds circulating around the token therefore aren't an official probability you can use to calculate how many chests you need.

There is also no upper limit on how many chests you can open in Treasure Hunters. You can keep searching after reaching a large total, but the counter remains a record of openings rather than a promised reward threshold.

Use the two goals separately: follow the quest requirements for bonus XP, and treat Pirate Shop Access as an unpredictable extra. That keeps the number useful without giving it a meaning the reward system doesn't support.

Do your teammates' chest openings give you XP?

If a teammate opens a chest, the chest-opening XP goes to them, not to you. If you want that XP, you need to be the player who opens the chest.

The Pirate Shop Access Token works differently. When a teammate finds it, the squad receives the token as well. That makes a squadmate's token find valuable to you even though their chest-opening XP isn't shared.

  • You open the chest: You receive the chest-opening XP.
  • A teammate opens the chest: They receive that XP.
  • A teammate finds Pirate Shop Access: You receive the token too.

Where can you find more chests in Treasure Hunters?

Treasure Hunters has more than 500 treasure chests scattered across Crossbones Isle. If finding your next batch is the problem, use the Fortnite Pirate Treasure Chest locations guide to plan your search.

Why are vaults useful for chest hunting?

Each vault contains three Rare Chests and one Sprite Chest. The chests inside also qualify for treasure rewards, making a vault a useful destination when you have its key.

Vault keys are random drops, mostly found in chests. Each key is tied to a particular vault, and equipping it marks that vault on your minimap. Follow that marker rather than trying to guess which vault the key opens.

A key works once and disappears after you open its vault. The practical sequence is straightforward: find a key, equip it to reveal its destination, and use it to reach the chests inside.

Are you looking for one specific chest?

If your search is aimed at a particular treasure rather than increasing your total, the Fortnite One Piece chest location guide covers that separate hunt. For your accumulated Treasure Hunters openings, return to Quests and Treasure Hunt.

The counter's best use is tracking a goal you can actually follow: chest-opening quests and their bonus XP. Keep opening chests for those milestones, use vault keys when they drop, and remember that Pirate Shop Access has no guaranteed chest-count finish line.
