The simplest way to get the Wayfinder Sprite in Fortnite is to search Treasure Chests and Sprite Chests during the Treasure Hunters mini-season. Wanted Poster treasure hunts, opponents carrying Wayfinder, and player trades give you other ways to find one. This Rare Sprite helps with the rest of your collection by detecting nearby Sprites, while its buried chest bonus adds extra loot to your treasure hunts. Finding Wayfinder is only part of the job, though. You also need to extract it to register it in your collection.

What's the easiest way to get the Wayfinder Sprite?

Start with chest searches rather than spending a Lucky Locator immediately. The base Wayfinder has Rare rarity and can drop from regular Treasure Chests, making ordinary looting a practical first approach. Sprite Chests are especially useful because they guarantee a Sprite, although the result can be something other than Wayfinder.

Choose your search method based on what you have available:

MethodWhat you need to doWhy use it?
Regular and rare chestsOpen chests around the island, including those inside Treasure Hunters VaultsGives you chances at Wayfinder during normal looting
Sprite ChestsFind and open a Sprite ChestGuarantees a Sprite, with Wayfinder among the possible results
Wanted PostersComplete a Wanted Poster, obtain its Sprite Treasure Map, and dig up the buried Sprite ChestGives you another guaranteed Sprite chest to search
Opponent dropsEliminate a player who has Wayfinder equipped and collect itLets you take a Wayfinder another player already found
Lucky LocatorUse it when Wayfinder is the only Sprite missing from your collectionOffers an option for closing that final collection gap
Player tradingArrange a Sprite trade with another playerProvides an alternative to finding your own drop

Wanted Posters are particularly helpful because their Sprite Treasure Maps lead to buried Sprite Chests. That guarantees a Sprite opportunity rather than relying on an ordinary chest to drop one first.

Where should you search for Wayfinder?

The One Piece Chest is a recommended starting point for your Wayfinder hunt. You can also search chests at these Treasure Hunters locations:

  • The Chest
  • Loot Lagoon
  • Fortune's Fort
  • The $.$. Rocky
  • Lantern Landing

Treat these as places to search containers, rather than a fixed Wayfinder pickup location. Its acquisition methods depend on chest results, treasure hunts, or another player already carrying it. Pick a location, search its chests, and take any Wanted Poster opportunities you find along the way.

Sprite Chests can appear in places where regular chests spawn, so watch for them throughout your search. Their appearance also helps identify special variants: red, ruby-like Sprite Chests drop Fortune Sprites.

How do you add Wayfinder to your collection?

To register Wayfinder in your Sprite Collection, you must extract it. Picking it up during a match gives you access to the Sprite, but extraction is the step that adds it to your collection.

You have two extraction options:

  • Use a Portable Extractor.
  • Visit an Extraction Site and extract Wayfinder there.

Make extraction part of your collection hunt as soon as you find a missing Wayfinder version. The same requirement applies to the other Treasure Hunters Sprites you want to collect.

Trading is another way to obtain Wayfinder, but it has a resource cost for the player handing it over. That player needs Sprite Dust to summon the traded Sprite again. Finding and extracting your own copy avoids asking another player to spend that resource.

What does the Wayfinder Sprite do?

Wayfinder combines Sprite detection with extra buried chest loot. Both abilities support collection hunting, which makes it a useful Sprite to find early if you plan to keep searching for others throughout the mini-season.

How does Sprite detection work?

While equipped, Wayfinder marks nearby Sprites. That helps you locate Sprites inside buildings or elsewhere in the surrounding environment instead of relying entirely on spotting them yourself.

Its detection radius increases with each level. A higher-level Wayfinder can therefore reveal Sprites across a larger area, giving you more coverage as you continue your hunt.

Which chests receive the extra loot?

Wayfinder's loot bonus applies to buried chests. That includes buried Sprite Chests located through Sprite Treasure Maps, Sprite Locators, and Lucky Locator Gizmos. Equip Wayfinder when you are opening those chests to benefit from the extra items.

This makes Wanted Poster treasure hunts useful even after you have found the base Wayfinder. Their buried Sprite Chests offer another Sprite opportunity, and Wayfinder adds loot when you open them. For the locator tool's acquisition and tracking details, see the Sprite Locator guide.

How do you level up the Wayfinder Sprite?

You can level Wayfinder through opponent eliminations, chest searches, and Sprite extractions. The supported chest searches include regular chests, rare chests, and Sprite Chests, so you can make progress through looting as well as fighting.

Work these activities into your hunt:

  • Eliminate opponents.
  • Search regular and rare chests.
  • Open Sprite Chests.
  • Extract Sprites.

Each level expands Wayfinder's Sprite-detection radius. Chest searching is particularly useful because it contributes to leveling while also giving you more opportunities to find Sprites. Extraction supports collection progress and Wayfinder progression, too.

Wayfinder's detection is focused on nearby Sprites. If you are comparing tracking abilities across Chapter 7, the Season 3 Seven Sprite guide covers another tracking-focused collectible from that earlier season.

Which Wayfinder Sprite variants can you collect?

In update 43.00, the available Wayfinder options are the base Wayfinder Sprite and Fortune Wayfinder Sprite. Fortune keeps Wayfinder's original abilities and adds nearby chest detection.

Wayfinder SpriteReveals nearby Sprites, with greater range as it levelsGrants extra items when opening buried chestsNone beyond its base abilities
Fortune Wayfinder SpriteRetains the base Sprite detectionRetains the buried chest bonusReveals nearby chests

Fortune Wayfinder gives you more information during a collection hunt: it helps locate both Sprites and chests while preserving the buried chest reward bonus. The base version still handles the main job, so it is worth collecting even before you find Fortune.

Variant availability can change with updates. This comparison covers the versions available in update 43.00.

When is Wayfinder worth equipping?

Choose Wayfinder when your priority is finding more Sprites or opening buried chests. Its detection directly supports collection hunting, and leveling it improves that detection range. Fortune Wayfinder adds chest discovery to the same package.

For a different looting focus, Chester offers a chance at extra loot from Treasure Chests and cancels fall damage. Wayfinder is the more focused collection-hunting choice because it reveals Sprites and rewards buried chest searches. Pick the ability that matches what you are actually searching for in that match.

Start with chest searches, use Wayfinder's detection during your Sprite hunt, and remember to extract any version missing from your collection. For more collectible walkthroughs and item help, browse the Fortnite guide collection.
