To get the Flame Flame Fruit in Fortnite, watch for the mid-match Rift announcement, follow its map or HUD marker, and collect it before another player does. Equip the fruit to transform into Portgas D. Ace and gain Fire Gun and Fire Fist. There are two catches: consuming the fruit alerts the island, and water damages Devil Fruit users. This guide covers the Treasure Hunters mini-season version of the item, including the pickup process, attack controls, and the 10-second Fire Fist cooldown.
How do you find and collect the Flame Flame Fruit?
The Flame Flame Fruit arrives through a mid-game Rift event on Crossbones Isle. Its arrival is announced on screen, and Devil Fruit locations appear on both your map and HUD. Those markers are your route to the item.
Watch for the Devil Fruit arrival announcement
Devil Fruits appear at multiple locations around the island, with Flame Flame and Gum Gum spawning together. When the announcement appears, check the active markers and head toward a spawn. The fruit goes to whoever reaches and collects it first.
The pickup process is straightforward:
- Watch for the on-screen Devil Fruit arrival announcement.
- Locate a Devil Fruit marker on your map or HUD.
- Travel to the marked spawn and identify the Flame Flame Fruit.
- Collect it, then equip it from your inventory to use Ace's abilities.
Collect the correct fruit
Both Devil Fruits can appear at the same spawn, so make sure you take Flame Flame if you want Ace's fire attacks. Gum Gum Fruit grants Luffy's abilities instead. Reaching a marked location is only part of the job; another player can collect the fruit before you.

How do you transform into Ace?
Equip the Flame Flame Fruit from your inventory to assume Portgas D. Ace's form. The transformation gives you two attacks: Fire Gun on primary fire and Fire Fist on alternate fire, also described by the aim-down-sights input.
Use the action labels rather than assuming a particular keyboard key or controller button. The relevant inputs are Fire and ADS.
| Ability | Input | What it does | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire Gun | Fire, or primary fire | Rapidly shoots flaming projectiles from Ace's fingertips | Remains usable while Fire Fist recharges |
| Fire Fist | ADS, or alternate fire | Unleashes a larger fire attack that damages enemies within its splash area | Has a 10-second cooldown after use |
Ace's transformation is tied to using the Devil Fruit item. Once equipped, the immediate task is learning which input produces steady projectile fire and which commits your larger attack to its cooldown.
How do you use Fire Gun and Fire Fist?
Ace's two attacks fill different roles. Fire Gun provides repeated shots, while Fire Fist delivers area damage with a wait between uses. Treating both inputs as interchangeable wastes the main benefit of having them together.
Fire Gun is your repeatable projectile attack
Press Fire to shoot flames from Ace's fingertips. Fire Gun is the more familiar half of the kit for players used to projectile weapons in shooter games: aim at an opponent and fire repeated shots.
Fire Fist provides the area attack
Use ADS or alternate fire for Fire Fist. This larger attack sends fire toward your aim and damages enemies caught within its splash area. Its ability to affect multiple opponents is the main mechanical difference between Fire Fist and Fire Gun's repeated projectiles.
After using Fire Fist, you must wait 10 seconds before using it again. That wait applies to the special attack, and Fire Gun remains available while Fire Fist recharges.
Should you choose Flame Flame or Gum Gum Fruit?
Choose Flame Flame Fruit for projectile attacks and splash damage. Choose Gum Gum Fruit for melee attacks and a movement ability. Ace gets two offensive abilities, while Luffy divides his kit between attacking and launching himself in the direction of his aim.
| Feature | Flame Flame Fruit | Gum Gum Fruit |
|---|---|---|
| Transformation | Portgas D. Ace | Monkey D. Luffy |
| Primary attack | Fire Gun projectiles | Punches on the ground or kicks in midair |
| Alternate ability | Fire Fist area attack | Gum-Gum Rocket movement |
| Main appeal | Ranged fire attacks and splash damage | Melee combat and directional movement |
| Shared drawback | Water causes damage | Water causes damage |
The choice matters because you cannot use both Devil Fruits in a single match. For a closer comparison of their controls and abilities, use the guide to both Devil Fruits and how to get them.
What restrictions should you know before using Flame Flame Fruit?
Water damages Devil Fruit users
Standing in water causes damage while using the Flame Flame Fruit. Ace's fire powers come with the same water weakness as the other Devil Fruit transformation, so keep that restriction in mind when moving around Crossbones Isle.
You cannot use two Devil Fruits in one match
Flame Flame and Gum Gum are alternative choices, not a combined loadout. Seeing both at a spawn does not let you use Ace's fire attacks alongside Luffy's movement ability in the same match.
Fire Fist's cooldown does not end the transformation
You can use the Flame Flame Fruit throughout the match. The 10-second Fire Fist cooldown is a delay between special attacks, not a time limit on the fruit itself. Keep Fire Gun available during that wait, and avoid water while using Ace's powers. Item availability and balance can change with later Fortnite updates.
