There are two Devil Fruits in Fortnite: Gum Gum Fruit, which transforms you into Monkey D. Luffy, and Flame Flame Fruit, which transforms you into Ace. During Treasure Hunters, Gum Gum appears through a Rift with a map alert, while Flame Flame can be found as floor loot across Crossbones Isle. Both give you special attacks, but Gum Gum also provides the charged Rocket launch. This guide covers how to find each fruit, use its abilities, and handle the cooldowns and water weakness that come with your transformation.

Which Devil Fruit should you choose?

Choose Gum Gum Fruit if you want charged punches and a movement ability. Choose Flame Flame Fruit if you prefer rapid fire projectiles and an explosive area attack. Their biggest difference is what happens when you use the alternate attack: Luffy launches himself, while Ace launches a fireball.

Gum Gum's movement comes with a longer cooldown than Fire Fist. That makes the decision more specific than choosing the biggest damage number: Rocket changes your position, while Fire Fist gives Ace another way to damage enemies.

How do you get Devil Fruits in Fortnite?

Devil Fruits do not share one fixed pickup location. For Gum Gum, watch the map and HUD for its arrival. For Flame Flame, search floor loot across Crossbones Isle during Battle Royale or Zero Build.

How to find and activate Gum Gum Fruit

Gum Gum Fruit spawns through a Rift, and its location is announced to the lobby. Once another player picks it up and consumes it, a broadcast tells everyone that it has been claimed. A marker is an opportunity, not a reservation.

  • Watch for the Gum Gum Fruit spawn alert and map marker.
  • Reach the marked location and collect the fruit before another player does.
  • Select it in your inventory and consume it to transform into Luffy.

How to find and activate Flame Flame Fruit

Flame Flame Fruit can appear as floor loot across Crossbones Isle, rather than at one guaranteed location. Once you collect it, equip it from your inventory to transform into Ace and access his attacks.

How do Ace's Flame Flame Fruit attacks work?

Flame Flame Fruit gives you Fire Gun for repeated shots and Fire Fist for area damage. Fire Fist has a 10-second cooldown, but using it does not lock you out of Fire Gun during that wait.

Fire Gun: your repeatable primary attack

Use Fire to shoot flames from Ace's fingertips. Each successful hit deals 15 damage, and the attack lets you fire rapidly at an opponent.

Fire Gun remains available while Fire Fist recharges. That is the useful part of Ace's attack cycle: the 10-second special-attack cooldown does not force you to stop attacking with the fruit.

Fire Fist: an airborne area attack

Use ADS to activate Fire Fist. Ace jumps into the air and sends a large fireball in the direction you are aiming. The impact deals 100 damage to enemies within its radius, then the ability enters its 10-second cooldown.

Fire Fist is the reason to consider Flame Flame for area damage. Unlike Fire Gun's individual hits, its explosion can damage multiple enemies caught inside the impact radius.

How do Luffy's Gum Gum Fruit attacks work?

Gum Gum Fruit has three abilities: Gum Gum Pistol, Gum Gum Rocket, and Gum Gum Battleaxe. The controls change with your situation, so learning the airborne follow-up matters as much as learning the basic punch.

Gum Gum Pistol: charge for more damage

Use Fire for Gum Gum Pistol. Luffy stretches his arms forward to hit a target in front of him, and you can charge the attack to increase its damage.

The damage ranges between 50 and 150 depending on the charge. For this attack, charge length matters: the minimum-damage punch and a fully charged hit are very different commitments.

Gum Gum Rocket: aim before you launch

Use ADS to charge Gum Gum Rocket, looking in the direction you want to travel. A longer charge increases the launch distance. Once you release the ability and launch, Rocket enters a 20-second cooldown.

That cooldown matters most when choosing where to land. Launching directly into an enemy team leaves Rocket unavailable for an immediate escape.

Gum Gum Battleaxe: use the airborne follow-up

After releasing Gum Gum Rocket, press ADS again while airborne to activate Gum Gum Battleaxe. Luffy swings his foot downward, dealing damage in a small area.

Battleaxe is tied to being in the air, rather than being another grounded use of Gum Gum Pistol. Remember the sequence: charge Rocket, launch, then use the airborne ADS input for Battleaxe.

How do you travel 250 meters with Gum Gum Rocket?

One of the One Piece quests asks you to travel 250 meters using Gum Gum Rocket. Use the same charged launch described above, paying attention to both your launch angle and your starting height.

A launch can cover around 200 meters depending on its angle and starting height, so one strong launch can account for most of the requirement. It is not a guaranteed 200-meter trip every time.

To work toward the 250-meter objective:

  • Charge Rocket longer to increase its travel distance.
  • Consider the angle and height of your launch.
  • Avoid launching directly into an enemy team.
  • Allow for the 20-second cooldown between uses.

The quest rewards distance traveled with Rocket. Battleaxe is an available airborne follow-up, but the movement ability is what the objective asks you to use.

What restrictions do Devil Fruits have?

Both Devil Fruits come with a water weakness. Entering water while using either fruit causes damage, so becoming Luffy or Ace changes more than your attacks.

Gum Gum Fruit also does not make Luffy immune to incoming attacks. The transformation gives you his abilities, not protection against physical damage.

You can keep using a Devil Fruit throughout the match. The 20-second Rocket cooldown and 10-second Fire Fist cooldown govern those abilities, rather than setting a time limit on the transformation. These details apply to Treasure Hunters and may change with updates.
